Thomas Reeve is the son of William Reeve & Elizabeth Reeve (nee
Strickland) Banns 10/04 1788. The two children are Thomas baptized 28/02/1789 & Alice baptized 14/07/1799. William
is buried at Wing on the 24/12/1810.

I seem to have found a John Holmes (1715) and Ann being the parents of Mary Holmes but yet to verify this. co-incidentally Francis Garfoot went on to marry a Catherine Broadhead of Loughborough (where I live) and her maiden name was Holmes

Kind regards Helen

I am a descendant of Francis Garfoot of Greetham, who gives his father's name as Charles on his marriage certificate. My Francis was born in circa 1810, and went on to run a Carrier business between Ibstock and Loughborough on a thursday, and Ibstock and Ashby De La Zouch on a Saturday according the the Leicestershire records. Any assistance would be appreciated as it would appear Rutland records are a little sparse.

Regards Helen

I think you may be right and me wrong about my William Brown. Sorry! I ordered up the birth cert for 'my' Wm born 1866, and his father was Wiliam Brown too, and his mother Martha Adcock, both of Rutland. I found them on the 1881 census with Wm senior born about 1829, a railway labourer, with another son Arthur. My William was listed as Willie- hence my confusion! Is this father your William Fiddler Brown?
Thanks

I don't think that is the link, as I have this week located William as the son of Violet Brown living at John Street in Oakham in the 1881 and 1871 census. The dates and locations match, and the fact that his mother's name was Violet, which was later one of hiis daughter's names would seem to tally.

We have a Garfoot family tree which includes your ancestors Francis and his parents Charles and Mary. I am descended from Charles's brother William (born 1761). Charles's parents were John Garfoot (1731-1813) and Mary Holmes (1738-1812). They were married at Ryhall, Lincs, on 12th December 1755, so I presume Mary comes from there. John and Mary lived in Market Overton, Rutland, but that is as far as we can go back at the moment.

Im a descendant of a francis Garfoot who gives his
birthplace as Greetham on the yearly census. His father was Charles Garfoot and I can verify this on Francis's marriage certificate which I have. Any assistance would be appreciated. His birthdate is given as 1811.
WW1 soldiers from Rutland

i recently via all the coverage for the end of WW1 came across a book published by Rutland in about 1920 which gave information about the people involved in various ways with the war. There's info on each village listing soldiers who fought and died, (found Great uncle -ernest alphonso liquorish listed and hadn't known he'd been involved at all) with a write up(presumably supplied by the family) and a photo. there's also a listing of the village members who fought and returned. (no further info on them tho). Later in the book is info on special constables, reserves, womens roles and heaps more if anyone wants me to check anything i spent part of the xmas hols scanning the whole book in before returning the original to Granny. Currently there are copies of the book on sale on amazon for a mere £200...
Nikki

Hi Derek,
My direct line in the Scotchbrook family appear to be: Richard Codgebrook 1676, John Codgebrook 1712, John Scotchbrook 1747, John 1768, William 1815 and Daniel 1858.

My question is, do you have any information on the parents of William's wife Elizabeth Joyce? (b.1819, Spalding, Lincs)
She is my 3xgrandmother and I cannot find anything online. As I live in Arizona it is is difficult for me to search elsewhere. I look forward to your reply, best, Gillian.

I am trying to find the link between the GLENHAM / GLINHAM and LEATON /SEATON families that were in Uppingham on the 1841 census as the surnames have carried through a couple of generations on from the marriage of an EMMA LEATON (or SEATON) to a Henry BAGGE. The surname REDGATE also carried through at the same time. I suspect that they might be mother or grandmother surnames but I cannot establish this yet and would very much like to. Thank you.

I'm not sure looking at the 1901 census on Ancestry the William Brown who has the mum Violet is living in Nottingham, whereas the other William Brown is living in Battersea, London in 1901 (your William Brown?), so I think your William cann't be the son of Violet.

On 1891 the William son of Violet is also in Nottingham.

On 1891 census in Oakham there is a William Brown married to Elizabeth A. (on the transcribe on ancestry they have the wrong age for him but if you look at image is 24 in 1891.

What do you think?

I'm a bit busy now but will try to confirm info later.

I believe your William Brown was the son of William Royce Brown born in Oakham, Rutland in 1828, also called Fiddler Brown (he was in the Crimean war and we have his 2 medals). My relative was Arthur brown, son of William Royce Brown and brother to your William. Arthur is my great grandad.

William Royce Brown parents were John and Susanna. John comes from Burley-on-the Hill, just outside Oakham and I believe his parents were William Brown and Mary Glenford.

Yes, the father is William Royce Brown (Fiddler Brown). He was in the Crimean war, I managed by some luck last year to get his 2 medals. He is buried in Oakham cemetary and had a military funeral through Oakham. I have a newspaper transcript of funeral and copy of a photo I got from others on this thread. I might try to see if there is any further info on him at PRO at Kew. I think your William was the only son of William Royce Brown to leave Rutland to go to London.
