I don't know where he was born but it was about 1895 and I believe he was living in Somerset in 1911. I would be very grateful if someone could find him and other members of his household. Thanking you in advance with kind regards, Dave

Do you know about all the Indian links? In case not, as it is such an interesting family, I couldn't resist delving a bit further ...

The 1901 census (when Douglas, his brother Noel and mother Elizabeth were boarders at a house in Lordship Lane, Dulwich Common) also gives his birthplace as Gorakhpur, India. His father Godfrey was presumably still out in India then, as a directory lists G B Partridge as a resident of Gorakhpur and "persnl. asst. to agent and chf. engr., T. S. ry." in 1895.

The 1881 census has Godfrey as a student at the Crystal Place School of Engineering and living with his family in Penge. His father (Douglas's grandfather) was Samuel Bowen Partridge, retired Dep Surgeon General Bengal Army.

There is an obituary of Samuel Bowen Partridge here:
http://www.bmj.com/cgi/pdf_extract/1/1950/1296
and there must be a lot more information about the family elsewhere.

Hi Celia,
Thank you very much for going the extra mile for me. I sometimes do the same thing when a person or family captures my attention. Since discovering this family about a week ago, I've made contact with a descendant on Genes Reunited who is my 3rd cousin once removed. His mother has done an extensive research on the family. Another Partridge and GR member who is descended from a branch which wasn't in India asked me if I knew anything about them. Now, thanks to you, I can tell him a bit and steer him towards the obit link you provided. Thanks again for finding the time to help. You're a dear! Kind regards, Dave

1896 Penge directories show Deputy Surgeon General Samuel Bowen Partridge at Thicket Lodge, 40 Thicket Road. The house, which was on the north corner of the junction with Anerley Park Road, has been demolished.

Coincidentally or not, of the half dozen other Partridges in the locality at the time, there is another Deputy Surgeon General, William Peyton Partridge, at Bella Vista, 10 Southend Road, Beckenham.

Hi Chris,
Please excuse the delay in replying, but I was away from home for several days. Thank you very much for finding these 2 bits of info. I've found Wm P. P. on the IGI as having different parents from S B P, so maybe cousins. It has to be more than coincidence that they were both army surgeons.I'll be following it up. Thanks again.

Kind regards, Dave
