I want to try and find the record of a marriage in 1840 in the parish church of Bedminster. At that time it was in the county of Somerset, although now it is a part of Bristol. Does anyone know where the records are held? Would they be at the Somerset reocord office, or somewhere like Bristol central library/ registry office??? Any thoughts please???

Hi, Ann,
You need to decide first, do you want to look for the PR record or the civil registration? The civil certificate will cost you £7, so if you can get to the Bristol record office to search the Bedminster records that will be saved. But otherwise try FreeBMD or the civil BMD indexes at your local library, record office, LDS centre or at the FRC in London, then order the certificate. The 2 sources ought to give the same information, so its just a matter of ease and cost. And, of course, in the PR you get the original signatures, not a copy.
