I have a John Raglus m Jane Pascoe abt 1840 Possibility Johns mothers maiden name may have been Evans as children from this marriage have Evans in their names. This family emigrated to Australia in 1850's. Is there anyone researching any of these names. Sheryl

I have info on the RAGLUS family in Australia as well as your John's antecedents if you are still active.

I am also interested in the Raglus family from Worthington; particularly ALFRED RAGLUS, b. c1842, married MARY JANE HOSKING on 2 December 1874 in bendigo, Victoria. Mary Jane was born in Redluth, Cornwall ABOUT 1845.

RAGLUS is a rare name Terry, but I can't yet identify your Alfred b. abt 1842. I have Alfred bapt. 17 April 1853 at Broadwater, Sussex father John and mother Jane nee PASCOE. He was 1 y/o when his family emmigrated to Melbourne in 1854.

There is also his uncle Alfred, bapt. 21 Sep 1828 at Shipley, Sussex father John, mother Hannah, nee RHODES/RHOADES.

There is another Alfred RAGLUS but he died at only 6 months old in Nov 1865. He was the son of Daniel and Eliza nee SHERWOOD. Daniel (my 2GGrandfather) was the brother of John who married Jane PASCOE as above.

Could you give some more info on your John bapt. 1842 please?

Regards Darryl

My dates were incorrect. Alfred Raglus was born in Worthing in 1852. Worthing is about 1.5km south of Broadwater in Sussex.

I SUSPECT that Alfred and Daniel were brothers. They both lived in Eaglehawk and both got married there. I understand that Daniel moved to the Colbinabin area and Alfred certainly moved to the Rushworth area.

I would appreciate any information.

There is also a booklet held by the Shepparton Family History Group has a booklet on the Raglus family, but I don't know yet which line of the family.

Best regards
Terry Waters

The Daniel RAGLUS b.1840, who was my 2GGrandfather, is the brother of John RAGLUS b.1819 and therefore uncle of your Alfred b.1852.

Daniel and Eliza nee SHERWOOD had a son Daniel Walter b. 1861 in Berkshire and it is this second Daniel that I gather married at Colbinabbin. He and your Alfred were cousins. Incidentally, he was baptised as plain Dan but was, according to my grandmother, always know as Walter in the family.

Daniel Snr & family emmigrated in 1865 and moved to Colbinnabin by 1870 where the sixth child, Ellen Elizabeth, was born 20 Nov 1870. In 1875 he was a Farmer at Colbinabbin and in 1876 was farming at Waranga, Rushworth with his nephew Alfred. The family moved from Rushworth to Elmore, Lonwood and finally to NSW where he was the publican at the Medway Hotel near Dubbo from 1891 to 1898.

There's a bit more if you are interested but this is not really your line so I'll stop there. I've seen the online reference to the Shepparton pamphlet and gather that it mostly refers to your Alfred and his father. No chance of me getting to Shepparton but it would be interesting to find out what's in it as obviously the families were close.

I've fairly reliably traced the RAGLUS lineage back to Henry RAGLASS b abt 1685 so if you'd like some more info feel free to message me with your private e-mail & Ill get in touch.

Cheers, Darryl

I am intested in your line. I don't have any blood line connection but I married into the Slee family with my grandmother in-law being Edith Raglus, daughter of Alfred Raglus who was born in Sussex in 1853 and married Mary Jane Hosking. I have been doing genealogy for alomost 40 years now on and off. I use Family Tree Maker and can read Gedcom files. We are trying to resolve a religious issue so any background information would be useful.

My address is terry_waters@westnet.com.au. I now live in Perth but was raised in Bendigo.

Appreciate your help.

Best regards
