I have a few branches in my family tree which all seem to stem from the same area.

Eure/Hewson/Guy/Smart/Humphrey/Humphreys/Robinson

Chichester, Bosham, Westdean, Birdham, Sidlesham & (new)(old)Fishbourne.

The Eure's stem from Fishbourne, There were Eure's who were ship builders in Dell Quay and also ran the Crown & Anchor pub. Also the Selsey Arms.

If anyone can help me with the above surnames. Or if you have any of them in your tree I would be grateful if you would share what information you have.

George Humphrey 1803 - 1850 was the brother of my second great grandmother Caroline Humphrey. Their father was James Humphrey a shoemaker originally from West Dean but moved to Slindon. George married Elizabeth Eure and they ran the Selsey Arms in West Dean. Elizabeth was widowed in 1850. They had at least 5 children - James, George, Emma, Charles and Ann. I would be interested to know how that fits in with your family tree/connection to the Humphrey family - I am not related to the Eures directly as far as I know.

Many Thanks for getting in touch. This is a strange set up on my family tree if Im being honest. If I lose u then Im sorry. I am related thru the Eure's, Elizabeth Eure was the sister of my gggg grandmother Ann Eure. The link between my side of the family and yours doesnt stop there. Ann Eure had a daughter my ggg grandmother Ann Hewson and she married into the Humphrey family too she married Frederick Humphrey(s)and had a number of children many died and 3 survived, when she was widowed. She then went on to marry John Dunn and had another lot of children, I am related thru this side. So Im not related to the Humphrey's by blood. It seems many of my family ran public houses Ann Eure was a publican too but yet to find out which public house she ran. The Eure's also ran the crown and anchor in Dell Quay for over 40 years and were also ship builders and Quay master. I took a trip there last year and actually stayed at the crown and anchor, and did a search in the West Sussex area. even visiting the selsey arms. Thanks for getting back to me so quickly, Kerry. Give me a few days to sort out my Humphreys notes and I should have something for you. I have found a Frederick Humphreys 1836 who was the son of William, one of George's younger brothers. I knew about the Selsey Arms too so it's all coming together - I had it on my list of places to go when I manage to get down to Sussex. What's it like??
