I am researching Benton family from Cannock Staffordshire in particular John Benton born abt 1816-1818 married to Mary born abt1815 had 3 children Emmanuel 1842, George 1845 and henry 1848 I have been unable to connect John to anyone prior to his marriage and have been unable to find him in any parish records. Is anyone out there researching this line of Bentons I am following the line from his son Emmanuel 1842. This line eventually migrated to New Zealand . Thank you

I have had a look at several of the census and John and Mary with the three children gave their place of birth as Essington, Staffs for John and Shareshill, Staffs for Mary.
These places were/are in Wolverhampton district.

If this is the case I found a John Bentons (coal miner) marriage to Mary Ward 25 Dec 1840 Wolverhampton. Father Samuel Benton.

did you find this in parish records for a church or were they non conformist records, or did you find info available thru ancestry.com I have been unable to link him to any family for the 1841 census there were about 6 johns in that year I can eliminate 2 that I know you wouldn't happen to know any more. Thank you for your response much appreciated.
