BARRETT and SUMMERFIELD at Hednesford and Wimblebury abt 1900

My great grandparents Isaac (AKA Ike) Barrett and Annie Marie summerfield married at St Peters Church in 1901. He was 25 and she 22. His father was Benjamin Barrett and her father was Thomas summerfield. My grandmother was Lillian Barrett whom married a man and became Lillian Masters. She had a sister, Eida, who lived in Cannock for most of her life. All the named males were miners. Can anyone help me trace this back further? I would like to know of/hear from any descendants of the above.

A.Miller

Hi There

Can anyone help me, I am looking for a couple of birth records and a marriage from Sedgley. Although quite well represented on the IGI there appears to be some gaps as I have noticed there are some member contributions for the years when they should be IGI entries, the people I am looking for seem to fall through the gaps. If anyone has access or knows of the following families please could you help me, these are my Uncle Joe Yeardleys many grandparents:

1. Marriage of Joseph Clark(e) to a Sarah possible Downes around 1830-1835 time (son Isaac born in 1834 Sedgley)

2. Birth of Joseph Clark (e) about 1814 (according to census - very stable age throughout years)

3. Birth of a Joseph Downes, John Downes and Sarah Downes about 1800 - 1816 ish. Joseph Downes and John Downes c) 1806 ish mark and Sarah possibly towards the 1814 mark.

Any help appreciated or even where I could purchase records.

According to FreeBMD, James F was born in 1923 and his mother's maiden name was Peers. There is a marriage for a James F Whiting and an Emily Peers in 1913 in Stoke on Trent so these may be his parents. I believe James and Annie were married in 1944 in Greater London. I don't know anything about the family other than my grandfather is James Frederick Whiting (born 1923) and he married Annie Pearce. That is it. I have been struggling to find any records for their marriage deaths, or his military records.

Any suggestions?

My mother and father lived on Shearer Street in Shelton in the early 1970's. There was a Toft family who's back gate was opposite ours. I was born there in 1974 and my younger brother in 1976. My mum can't remember the names of the parents but the children were: John, Alan, Sandra, Irene and the youngest was Nigel. My mother actually named my youngest brother Nigel after him. Nigel Toft used to come over to play with me as a baby. One of the son's went into the Armed Forces (Navy?) and one of the sons also made my mum a bookcase that we took to Norfolk with us when we moved down there.

My mum bumped into Mrs Toft years later in Hanley market, at the time she had had an accident with her knee and she was walking with a stick, unfortunately we haven't seen her since.

I don't know if any of this is relevant to you but if it is I hope it helps.

That would be so very kind of you, I have had no other offers to-date.

I have just received in the post the marriage certificates just confirming that the Downes and Clarkes I asked about are the right lines (been working off the census and index before), shame they didn't bring the GRO registrations in until 1837 would have made life easier!

I live in the Outer Hebrides so not sure I can return the favour, though I have got a lot of information on Jewish research and if that fails there is always some Stornoway Chocolate or Smoked Salmon.

Again thank you for the kind offer

Regards

Debs

William Blundells wife died in 1897.
I thought she may have died in childbirth with harry but there is no birth entry for a Harry or henry Blundell in 1897.
There is however a Harry Heathcote born Whittington 1897 but no entry for him on the 1901 census so i would think
he is Eleanors son and has taken William Blundells name.
PS sorry have just noticed that on the 1901 Harry Blundells birthplace is Whittington.

They had several sons the first John (known) as Jack and then Joseph Edward (my grandfather) then Hector who died aged 2. There was another brother known as William but I have no information on him. I have more information which may be relevant.

Rose

Thank you for your response. I have also found this same Census of Elizabeth Coakley living with Grandfather Isaac. MY Elizabeth has an "Isaac Coakley" who served as a Witness at her marriage but Thomas Coakley 'labourer' is listed as her father. I have found that another Coakley family has linked this same Census to them with this Elizabeth marrying someone other than my William Stanley. I'm still confused by this. Thanks again for the response. Mike

Thank you so much for your response regarding
William Henry Stanley. The difficulty is, I have been told by other family member that my William Stanley was born
28 Feb 1853. The trouble is, There is absolutely no matching birth record anywhere in Ancestry.com or FreeBMD to corroborate birth year 1853.
I also have linked my William Stanley to parents William Stanley and Fanny 'Hitower'. I'm beginning to believe that my extended family has his birth year wrong. I will probably have to order this 1852 birth record for William Stanley. Thanks Again~ Mike

Re: John SMALL, West Bromwich, Staffordshire

Yes it does look like you are onto the right John Small. His West Bromwich address in Jervoise Street 1861 is no more than two minutes walk from the home of his married sister Ann (Small) Dodson my great grandmother, in Piercy Street.
John was a miner as was my great grandfather Jack Dodson and it seems more than possible that he moved with Jack and Ann from Warwick to West Bromwich which I know they did during the second half of 1853. He would not be impossibly young at 13/14 for that. I know that Ann kept close touch with her parents Elizabeth and William back in Warwick during the late 1850s and circumstantial evidence from baptisms of Ann's children suggests that they (E & W) moved to West Brom in autumn 1861. Their 1871 address Lyndon is a street and also the name of the oldest hamlet which grew to be West Brom. The parish church is there and also the workhouse which saw William in his old age.
At his wedding to Elizabeth(Gilman)herself born in Napton, William is described as "of Honily" although he consistently gave his birthplace as Hatton (the next village along the road). I have never yet found him there in parish registers although it has been about 35 years since I last looked. Elizabeth's father is almost certainly Samuel Gilman also of Napton.Hope this gives you some clues.
I have recently ordered the death certificates of William and Elizabeth, which I have never previously bothered with. I'll let you know what they say. I regret my occasional membership of Ancestry does not allow direct contact. I can only use these meassage boards. Firkin(s) is a well known West Bromwich name.

Maria Manning, widow, died 10th February 1906 at 39 Sherwood Street, Wolverhampton, aged 52 years. She was Roman Catholic. I have had searches done for her obituary and municipal cemetery burial place to no avail. The RC Church St Peter and St Paul (nearest) do not have their Burial Register for 1906 or map of Burial Plots, neither do the Diocese. It is thought that she could have been reintered in a Public Grave at Bilston Cemetery when exhumations were carried out in 1973 at the RC Church for the Ring Road works. Can anyone suggest what to do next or has local knowledge of the events mentioned ? Thankyou.
