Would a marriage certificate dating from 1866 show whether the groom's father was living or deceased ? Or was this extra information only available at a later date ?

Hello

I have a Marriage Cert from 1863 in Worcester. It shows the parish of the bride and groom , but only shows the Fathers name and Occupation.

Regards

Liane

Thanks Liane,

I had assumed that if a father was dead this fact would be recorded on a certificate but this practice doesn't seem to have been adopted until later. Wonder at what date this changed ?

Hi

I don't know , however I have another one for 1912 , and it states Deceased in brackets , after the groom's fathers name.

Good luck

Liane
