My research has taken me back to a George Dowthwaite who was a blacksmith in Ackerthwaite near Milnthorpe in Westmorland from at least 1829. He was born about 1776 in nearby Beetham, married to Hannah wilson of Orton,Westmorland.His daughter Elizabeth Dowthwaite married a Richard Monk and lived in Lancashire after 1851.Anybody who is interested in the Dowthwaites please let me know.I will be able to help with what I know as well,

Have to say that it seems to me that there are little or no known connections between families of Douthwaites in Westmorland and those in Yorkshire, and other further-flung parts of the country.
