Richard Burnop (1828-1879) and his wife Margaret (1835-1909) immigrated to America in app. 1858 with their son, Richard Thompson Burnop (Sep. 7, 1856-Apr. 12, 1937). They lived in Washington County, Virginia and Carroll County, Virginia before settling in Smyth County, Virginia where their descendants still live.

A eulogy for Richard Thompson Burnop, passed down through the generations, states he was born in Westmoreland, England. It also states his parents came to America when Richard T. Burnop was only 18 months old.

Does anyone know Richard and Margaret Burnop's parents? If so, please contact me. I have records on many of their descendants. Any help with the Burnop family would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, I noticed your query about the Burnop family. I am annotating the 1870 Carroll Co Census with my Genealogy Club and came across the Burnop Family from Eng. Had to check them out and find out what I could about them. Well, on Ancestry.com I found that they came over on the ship "Australia" from Liverpool England to New York on their way to Virginia. There was Richard Burnop, 29, a miner; Mrs. Burnop, 22 and Richard Burnop 10 mos, son. All were born in England and all had the destination of Virginia.

They were living in Smyth Co when the 1860 Census was taken and then in Carroll when the 1870 Census was taken. They were back in Smyth Co when the 1880 Census was taken.

Thought you might like to have this info! There were 2 daughter that married in Carroll Co also. Mary Bell to Kenney Ballard mcGee and Mercy America to Henry C. Smythers. One son, Richard T. married Nannie E. Vaughan.

The triplets Hope, Faith, and Charity were buried in Pickets Cem Carroll Co in an unmarked grave.

Just wanted to share with you what I have uncovered.

Hi, I am in the Smythers line from Wytheville, Va. My grand
father was William Robert Smythers. Are you kin to Mary Smythers that married Isaac Roseberry? If you hae any info
on the Smythers I would appreciate comparing notes.
