I am researching the Hughes family from Heddington, Wiltshire, England. Does anyone have any information on a Walter Francis Hughes born 1872 at Heddington, Calne, Wiltshire I believe he married a Eliza Robinson in 1892 at Paddington. His parents were Francis Hughes and Elizabeth Dangerfield. Other surnames that I have come across are Fishlock, Hood, Cooper and a christian name of Decima born 1813 in Marlborough Wilt. I believe Decima married twice, once to a Mortier and then to a Solomon Hughes.

I note your interest in Decima McTier, an ancester of mine from her Father, and have chapter and verse of McTier family (to 1740 in Wiltshire) if you ever need it!!

Thanks for the reply. I am helping to research the Hughes tree for my neighbour. I have nine members of Decima's family and I know Decima was the tenth born so I have one name missing. I have her parents as George Gilmore McTier and Elizabeth Strugnell. I have the McTier's dating back to 1739 but little information with regard to the Strugnell's or the Gilmore's. Any information would be very useful.

Hi, I'm not good at sending details via gencom etc, but will willingly post you a print out of all the Mctier history I have, if you are prepared to release your address!!
The earliest definite Mctier I have is a William Mctier, (m.Dewar?) possible father of William Mctier, b 1741 in Burbage, with a sister Mary, of interest to Goddards in America. I have ten siblings, including Decima.

Thanks for the prompt reply. The earliest I go back is William McTier and I have him being born in 1739 at Burbage, Wilts, he was married to Fanny Gilmore in Grat Bedwyn, Wilt on 3 1 1764. I will see my neighbour in the week and tell her about the detail that you have on the Mactier's. Hopefully I will speak to you in the week.

From the records that I have (mostly compiled by my brother Doug), we have my gr-gr-gr-grandfather William and gr-gr-gr-grandmother Rebekah Hood being the parents of both my gr-gr-grandfather William and the Solomon Hughes who was married to Decima McTier.
We have it noted that Decima was born 1813 above the family shop, High Street, Marlborough, Wilts. We note that she was the daughter of George Gilmor McTier and Elizabeth Strugnell and the granddaughter of William McTier. Decima died in Heddington 12-Jan-1887. She had 8 siblings - Henry George, Charles, William Shzignett, Emma, Matilda, Selina, Albert, and Elizabeth; all of whom were older than her.
I am very interested in sharing family tree information specifically for the Hughes' of Heddington et al but also for all the families that have touched the Hughes family tree since our earliest records in 1485.
