George
GRANT and Sarah WHITE married in Potterne on 18 Oct 1787. They went on to have a tribe of children who were all baptised in Potterne:
George - bap 20 Apr 1788;
James - bap 30 Oct 1789;
Anna Maria - bap 26 May 1791 and married John Glass;
Jonathan - bap 28 may 1793 and married Ann Mary Hamilton;
Jane - bap 13 July 1795 and married William Morris;
Rebecca - bap 31 Dec 1797 and married Samuel Beaven;
Eliza - bap 31 Jan 1880 and married Joseph
Byerley. Eliza was of
Worton in the parish of Potterne when she married in 1826.
It would appear that Sarah was the daughter of a Jonathan White and, possibly, Rachel
Crook.
I'm interested in any information about George
GRANT and his wife Sarah White. They are my 3xgreat grandparents.
I'm also curious about the appearance of the name "Anna Maria" in Potterne. It seems to have started in 1767 with the baptism of Anna Maria
Howel. Then in 1771 there was Anna Maria Read; 1773 Anna Maria Few; 1774 Anna Maria Underwood; 1780 two Anna Maria Fews; 1791 Anna Maria Grant; 1793 Anna Maria Goodall; and 1795 Ann Maria
Cooksey. There is no obvious connection between the families. If anyone has any clues about the sudden appearance of Anna Maria as a name I would be interested given that the
GRANT daughter was given this name.
