Appreciate your message. Will have to take some time to sort it all out. Assume that you have read Judge Grubb's account of the family and his travels around the world, so probably don't have anything new to add at this time.

Thabks, Tom

Re: Wiltshire Connection - GRUBB family

Hello, Thomas,
I have studied the Grubb family for years. The Wiltshire, Cornwall, and Buckingham Cos. families were of the same line. The Irish family came from the Cornwall family. Henry Grubb who came on the Kent in 1677 with John Grubb was not John's brother but he was a relative. John Grubb was an Atty and an advisor to William Penn in 1675 then John Grubb came to NJ and went immediately to Pennsylvania and Delaware and purchased lands from the Swedes, then he went back to England and married Frances Vane and they came on the Kent in 1677. Frances Vane's mother, Frances, married 2nd, Edward Kekewich, not Frances, wife of John Grubb, but young Frances Grubb did receive an inheritance from Edward Kekewich who had no children. As far as I can tell from the records John Grubb is from either the Buckingham family or the Wiltshire family. I assume that Judge Grubb knew his family roots as Wiltshire, England, but I have no proof of that. I just know that he is not from the Cornwall family as supposed by so many people since Henry Grubb of Cornwall came on the the Kent in 1677. John Grubb was not a Quaker, and neither was Frances, but Henry was. John did open a tannery but that was good business as a tannery was needed and William Penn insisted that all people had a trade including the women, and that was good business. If you can dig out any further proof of the Buckingham Co. John Grubb as our John Grubb, who is the right age, or the Wiltshire family of John Grubb and let me know I would really appreciate it. Did you know that William Penn tied up the estate of John Grubb for 50 years? He did.
Elaine Rowland
Hi JOhn
Would be very interested in your connection. Do my names of Solomon Clarke or Mary Judd sound familiar to your side of your tree? I do not know where or who Solomon came from as have been unable to locate any details further back apart from his and Mary's marriage. I know there are a few Clarkes in Winterslow cemetery as was fortunate to be able to visit there last year. I am in Australia.Looking forward to hearing from you.
Lyn

What a shame she isn't there. She was definately confirmed in Downton, south of Salisbury, but not christened there either. I wonder if the cathedral baptism records are online anywhere.

Thanks again for your help,
Geoff.

Hi there,

My oldest Fennell ancestor is Richard Fennell born about 1615 who married Dorothy Lycester. Very interested in hearing from anyone who can help me take this line back further. Or who has any information about any of the maternal ancestry lines i.e from Rebecca Cheever, Ann Brinkworth, Sarah Edwards, Mary Bayley, Jane Amor, Hannah Ballard etc.

All the best,
Dave

Hi I am tracing my Blackford links to Swindon, Wiltshire. My ancestor Henry born abt 1792, to a G. Robert Blackford (known as Robert) and a Rebecca Wayt. He Had 5 brothers and 5 sisters. John 1778, Thomas 1787, William 1789, Richard 1798, male, Jane 1801,Dorothy 1795, Harriet 1792, Lucy 1785 and Rebecca 1780.
Father and Henry both butchers. Henry moved to Aust. Apparently Eobert was backsword champion of Southern counties. Was hoping our lines may link.

Karen
Australia

Hello there,

I have just discovered your post and can help on the Thaines. Your Harriet Thaine was a sister of an ancestor of mine, Mary Thaine. They (and a third sister Sarah) were children of Simon Thaine, a yeoman of Martin in Wiltshire. He left a will in 1828 and I have transcribed it and it will be on my website under 'Wareham family tree' by teh end of today (see under T for Thaine).

Website - http://www.southwilts.co.uk/site/My-family-history-by-Mark-W...

I have only just diecovered this Thaine line myself and am still gathering information but the Thaines seem to have been in Martin going back to at least 1690.

Regards

Mark

John FORD - Martin, Wilts 1841/1851 census?

I have a newly discovered FORD family connection from Martin, Wiltshire UK. My GGGmother was a Jane FORD, daughter of John FORD and Harriet THAINE who were married in Martin on 20 Dec 1825 (IGI). Jane had two sisters - Sarah and Ann, and a brother Edmund. Unfortunatley that is as far as I have found - I do not know anything about John or Harriet's families.
From the 1861 census, John was born in 1798, widowed and a farmer with 81 acres living in East Martin.
If anyone has access to the 1851 or 1841 censuses I would really appreciate more information on this family.

Re: John COLE and Maria LAWES, both C1775 from Chippenham,Wilts.

Hi Shelagh,

Thanks for coming back to me. To be truthful I can't remember, this (family research) is something that I do from time to time or when a new 'lead' or new information comes up. I'm pretty sure via the IGI though. The Wiltshire FHS site also had several John Coles, one of which was born 1772 who seemed to fit.

I can't remember finding any evidence of Maria Lawes though, anywhere !

If John married at 28 (or 30/31 if 1772 is correct) it's possible that Maria was younger. The males seem to have a history of marrying women 10 or so years younger than they are !

Anyway, any info that you are able to offer is gratefully received.

All the best,

Dan
