I wonder if anyone would be so kind as to do a baptism lookup for a Sophia or Sofhia CROWTER (or CROUTER) in Mar 1771 in St.James, Trowbridge.

Her parents may have been Edward CROWTER and Elizabeth LITTLE, who are believed to have married in St.James, Trowbridge on 8 Sep 1765 (IGI).

Thanks,
Geoff Browne

Hello Helen

Interesting that you have the name of Moore in Chippenham, wiltshire. Some family information has just come to me about my Harry Burt who married Sarah Moore 23 October 1800. Harry Burt had two children in his previous marriage with Johannah Matthews, they were Elizabeth Burt born 10 August 1787 and Albin Burt born 24 Februsary 1793 both born in Chippenham Wiltshire, England. do any of these names appear on your family tree?

Marion from New Zealand

Hi I am tracing my Blackford links to Swindon, Wiltshire. My ancestor Henry born abt 1792, to a G. Robert Blackford (known as Robert) and a Rebecca Wayt. He Had 5 brothers and 5 sisters. John 1778, Thomas 1787, William 1789, Richard 1798, male, Jane 1801,Dorothy 1795, Harriet 1792, Lucy 1785 and Rebecca 1780.
Father and Henry both butchers. Henry moved to Aust. Apparently Eobert was backsword champion of Southern counties. Was hoping our lines may link.

Karen
Australia

I'm a descendent of a long line of James Underwoods from Potterne. I also have a database of all Underwood births, marriages and burials from the Potterne parish records and also 1851 census, linking families where possible. I might be able to help with your research, and maybe we're related.

Hi: Thanks for the reply to my post on Underwoods of Potterne. All I have is that my Grandmother was Annie Underwood from Potterne, we have calculated her death at around 1941. Her Father was a *Pork Butcher* in Potterne and I have his name as George Underwood. I am completely lost on this part of my family as both Grandparents were deceased before I was born, and my Father died at age 45 when I was 14. So do not have anyone left to get information from.

Hope we are somehow related !!!

Jennifer

Hi Dawn,

Thank you for your very kind offer! You can email me directly at l_homewood@hotmail.com

My direct line runs through Robert Blake and Maria Hopgood's son James, younger brother of your Thomas. Have you had any luck finding any Hopgoods? I've been stuck on that line for years! I'm only a free member of Ancestry so can't see your tree.

Thanks again, from your cousin in Canada,
Lynne

Hi, I noticed your post. I am related to the Blakes of Collingbourne Ducis through my Mum. I have copies of the pages from the Collingbourne Ducis Remembered book which featured the Blake family, courtesy of a very kind lady in the village. I also spoke to the author and as the book is out of print and not available anywhere for love nor money she is arranging to let me have copies of the photos of the Blake family used in the book. If you let me have your email address I can let you have scanned copies of the photos when they arrive. Full details including photos and Census returns of the Blake family - and in particular Thomas Blake (1825-1882), two of his sons Thomas (1862-1940) and William George (born 1870 - my great grandfather), and the 6 children of Thomas Blake and Frances Fanny Smith (William Thomas 1896-1914, James 1899-1957, Edith 1899-1957, Albert Edward 1900-1967, Ernest George 1902-1987 and Francis Robert 1910-1980) can be viewed on the Pillans family tree at www.ancestry.co.uk.

I have a newly discovered FORD family connection from Martin, Wiltshire UK. My GGGmother was a Jane FORD, daughter of John FORD and Harriet THAINE who were married in Martin on 20 Dec 1825 (IGI). Jane had two sisters - Sarah and Ann, and a brother Edmund. Unfortunatley that is as far as I have found - I do not know anything about John or Harriet's families.
From the 1861 census, John was born in 1798, widowed and a farmer with 81 acres living in East Martin.
If anyone has access to the 1851 or 1841 censuses I would really appreciate more information on this family.

Hi Shelagh,

Thank you for this, I didn't have the bonds and have been struggling to be honest. Are John & Maria ancestors of yours as well ? If so any information relating to this line (or branches) would be gratefully received.

I have some details prior to John but they're sketchy at best, I do have fairly complete details from William Cole (John and Maria's Grandson) forward if you'd like them ?

Thank you,

Dan

Hi Shelagh,

Thanks for coming back to me. To be truthful I can't remember, this (family research) is something that I do from time to time or when a new 'lead' or new information comes up. I'm pretty sure via the IGI though. The Wiltshire FHS site also had several John Coles, one of which was born 1772 who seemed to fit.

I can't remember finding any evidence of Maria Lawes though, anywhere !

If John married at 28 (or 30/31 if 1772 is correct) it's possible that Maria was younger. The males seem to have a history of marrying women 10 or so years younger than they are !

Anyway, any info that you are able to offer is gratefully received.

All the best,

Dan

Hi
Thanks for your information, yes it is the same one, my line follows Mary Annn's marriage to William Welch and their first son William, who was born Welch, but married in the name Herridge, he later reverted back to Welch. Have been away for a few days and am just getting organised. Will be in touch later in the week with more details, how are you connected to Mary Ann and is there anything I might have that can help you.

Hello there,

I have just discovered your post and can help on the Thaines. Your Harriet Thaine was a sister of an ancestor of mine, Mary Thaine. They (and a third sister Sarah) were children of Simon Thaine, a yeoman of Martin in Wiltshire. He left a will in 1828 and I have transcribed it and it will be on my website under 'Wareham family tree' by teh end of today (see under T for Thaine).

Website - http://www.southwilts.co.uk/site/My-family-history-by-Mark-W...

I have only just diecovered this Thaine line myself and am still gathering information but the Thaines seem to have been in Martin going back to at least 1690.

Regards

Mark
