I have a Tolley in my family tree. A George Tolley married my great-grandmother's sister, Jane Green. The family is living in Merrington Lane Coo. Durham on the 1891 census:
RG12/4072/93
Burnett Street, Merrington Lane Coo. Durham
George Tolley, Head, 54, Iron Works Puddler, born Wolverley
Jane Tolley, Wife, 40, born ?, Staffordshire
Samuel Tolley, Son, 20, Coal miner, born Ryhope, Durham
David Tolley, Son, 18, Coal miner, born Stockton, Durham
Further children: George, Hannah, Herbert, Fred, John,
Ellen, aged 16 to 3 months, all born in Merrington Lane.

Any idea where George Tolley and family fit in with your Wolverley Tolleys?

Hi Gordon,

I seem to remember contacting you over a year ago about my family history research on the Rastall's in this area.

As I have now completed extensive research and found dozens of other ancestors, some having been in Flyford Flavell, please get in touch with me again to discuss.

Thanks.

Kerry,
Thanks for getting in touch again, I'm afraid at this end we came to a full stop, My cousins daughter was collating all the information we had she is now studying to become a nurse so her time is limited.
However, I do remember visiting an aunt at flyford flavel, she lived in a large house opposite the duck pond, I believe it was called the "HOMESTEAD" At the rear was a dutch barn which had listed building status, The house was sold during the sixties but the outside could not be touched, the only modernisation allowed, at that time was to install gas and electric, I believe sewerage came later,.
We now understand that the George Rastall we are tracing back from, was actually bought up by other relatives, possibly in Lapworth or Bishampton we cant be sure. A newspaper cutting on his 60th wedding anniversary stated that he was bought up in a village called CAULDSWELL so far we have not traced the village.
Now that the newest census is on the internet it may be possible to search that for more information?
Many thanks for your message, if I can come up with more info I'll pass it on.
Good luck
Gordon Ford mbks

Hi noticed that you have to Griffiths' in your research. My Griffiths were Andrew Griffiths born 1857 in Martin Hussingtree and further down the line from there, to Australia. We are also connected with the Hartlands and Braziers at Brown Heath Worcestershire.

our dna sample matches the Tolley family exact. our name is Hodgkiss from Coreley Shropshire 1813 or before. If you know of a Hodgkiss connection or have any orphan Tolleys may have been adopted or illegitimate children who would have had a Tolley father and maybe a Hodgkiss mother. If you have any male Tolleys who are willing to be tested let me know. Bescot@sbcglobal.net
