I have my grandmother's marriage certificate with her fathers name and occupation. I cannot find any trace of her birth records. She was Jessie Tedstone born 1894, I was told she was born in Halesowen, but not certain. Her father Thomas Fredrick Tedstone born 1876, groom/domestic, born in Bromsgrove. I don't know who her mother was, and can't trace her father, exactly. She moved from Birmingham to Accrington, Lancs in her teens to live with Jennie Hall (nee Bradford) who she called mother, and my mother called her Grandma, if she was illigitimate how can I find out.

Jessie was not illegitimate she was born September qtr 1892
Stourbridge ref.6c 203
Thomas Tedstone married September qtr 1892 Kings norton
also married same reference number Sept 1892 Kings norton
Mary Jane Bradford ref.6c 627.
Cannot find any of these people on census.
Thomas Frederick Tedstone was born Bromsgrove 1875 so he would only have been 17 when he married.

Hi Pam, thank you for your message. I cannot understand why on my grandmother's marriage certificate her date of birth is 28th September 1894. Do you have any ideas. Thanks Marian.

Hi again Marian
No I do not understand why either. I have checked the actual birth indexes for Sep & Dec Q 1894 and the only Tedstone listed is a Lydia born at Kingston.
Is her mother not listed on the birth certificate?
Pam

Hi Pam, thank you for replying again. Her mother was not on her marriage certificate. I wish I had the space to tell you the whole story, its unusual and driving me and my Cousin mad. If you are interested, I can give you my email address: mollymoo53@googlemail.com. There are so many twists and turns in her story. Maybe fresh eyes could spot a clue in the bits and pieces we have. I loved her very much and after nearly 40 years I miss her still. Regards, Marian
