Susannah Anthony m ? Morris

Can anyone help? We're looking for the marriage of one of our ancestors -Susannah Anthony.
We know from the will of her brother James, made in 1784 Worcester England that her married name was Morris. However we cannot find any details of her marriage anywhere.
As we haven't yet established the parents or birth place of these 2 siblings James and Susannah and their brother and sister Thomas and John Anthony, we have hit a big brick wall.
We know from his will and other documents that James Anthony was born c1719 and married at the age of 40 in Worcester, so therefore we can only guess at the time period in which Susannah married -anything between the 1730-1760 period.
Worcester marriage records have drawn a blank, and although we haven't done a detailed search in the Hereford records, nothing has been found there either.
It's possible that Susannah married Mr Morris in Shropshire, or even London. IGI has drawn a blank. Can anyone shed any light on the matter and help???

William WOODS

Frederick Lindsay WOODS - who was a son of William WOODS emigrated to Australia in 1867. On 28 Dec 1870 Frederick Lindsay WOODS married at Naracoorte South Australia and he gave his father's name as William WOODS. When Frederick Lindsay WOODS died on 1 August 1913 at Porter St Parkside South Australia the family listed his place of birth as being WORCHESTERSHIRE.

Frederick Lindsay WOODS would have been born around 1849 yet I can find no record of his birth in WORCHESTERSHIRE, nor anywhere else. As I do not know the name of his mother - this compounds my problems as I am sure that there were many William WOODS persons born in WORCHESTERSHIRE ENGLAND.

On the basis that sometimes family names are repeated in a family I include below the names of the children of Frederick Lindsay WOODS:

Frederick Lindsay WOODS and his wife Ellen Elizabeth (nee GODDARD) had the following children after 1870 in South Australia:

William Henry WOODS
Annie Eliza (married : CROSSING)
Ida Mary WOODS
Charles Edward WOODS
Alice Elizabeth (married : WILKEY)
Alfred Lindsay WOODS
Henry Samuel WOODS
Ellen Louisa (married : BASEBY)
Bertram Lawrence WOODS.

I have such excellent details on the family of the wife of Frederick Lindsay WOODS that it would be pleasing to discover a bit more about his family origins. If you can help it would be most appreciated please.

His father, Andrew was dead by this time. Mother's name not known, no known siblings yet either. Family rumour has him in Bedford, Montgomery Wales, and supposedly related to the Tipton Slasher.
Hi all, can anyone help? Am looking for information pertaining to an Ann Dallow, born approx 1834 -36, and a John brown, born approx the same time. I believe J Browns' father to be Thomas Brown, who married an Elisabeth Robinson. Anns' father is James Dallow. John and Ann married 16 Apr 1855 but it looks, according to the writing on the marriage certificate as Old Swindford,Stourbridge but am unsure. Ann Dallows' records are the one I am most interested in.

Hi there,

I've managed to trace my paternal line up to a Thomas Newman, b1780 Worcestershire, d1870 Lambeth. I'm pretty sure of the information I have. I have managed to find details of marriage using the pallots index. That's fine.

However, how can you investigate prior to the 1841 census with any kind of accuracy? Online at least, the only details there are are of slave trading.

Are there "hard copies" of the 1831 census etc that are available?

I'm looking for the marriage of Mary Smith to what might be Cheveral CAUSHER, on 26 Dec 1833. She was born in 1979 and her parents are in thier sixties so that gives an idea of possible birthdates for her ancestors.

Her grandfather was William Henry Moore, husband of "Elsie May" or "Margaret" Fields. Elsie May/Margaret Fields was from Bromsgrove, Worcestershire, England and I have no idea who her parents were. William Henry Moore's father was also named William Henry Moore and he was from/of Norfolk, England. William Henry Moore Sr.'s mother's name was Anna Marie, it is not known what her maiden name was.

This is all I have to go on and I can't find anything on the LDS website or Rootsweb to point me in the right direction.
Any info or suggestions?

Thanks!
Maggie Barron
Ottawa, Ontario, Canada

It is a big ask but could somebody please look up details of the following families for me who should have been all living at Worcester at the Census of 1841.

1. John Wales of Worcester b.1780 or thereabouts (only a wild guess) and his second wife Mary Finch b.1798 at St John Bedwardine, children at home possibly Martha Ann Wales b.1831 and Thomas Breary Wales b.1842

2. Martin Wales (son of the above John Wales) b.1810 Worcester, his wife Martha Finch b.1812 Worcester, possibly living at The Vicarage, St Peter, and children possibly at home Martha Jane Wales b.1835, Martin Samuel Wales b.1836, Mary Ann Wales b.1839, Louisa Elizabeth Wales b.1841, and Matilda Wales b.1843

3. John Wales (junior) b.1819 Worcester married to ?

And the following families who should have been living at Claines.

4. George Lightband Wales b.1804 Claines, his wife Mary Ann Williams (or Ann Williams) b.1802 Birmingham, and children at home Thomas Wales b.1830, Martin Wales b.1832, George Wales b.1835 and Sarah Ann Wales (my great grandmother) b.1837. The intriguing thing is that in 1841 this particular family may have all changed their surname to Lightband and kept the middle name of Wales eg George Wales Lightband

5. John Thomasson (could be spelled Thommason) b.1815 Claines, his wife Mary Wales (daughter of John Wales) b.1814 Worcester and children John Lightband Thomasson b.1839 Claines, Frederick Thomasson b.1842 Claines and Martin George Thomasson b.1845 Claines

Details of names, ages, birth places, occupations and families would be very helpful to me in trying to sort out the family tree from this distance.

Roger Jackson
Nelson
New Zealand
Am interested in making contact with descendants of the Checketts family. My ancestors were Charles Checketts and Eliza Sherwood, who emigrated to Utah in the late 1860s from Birmingham. Charles was the son of George Checketts and Louisa Cook. He apparently was the youngest of six children of Francis Checketts and Sarah Weston. An older sister, Mary Jane, died at the age of 23 and the others in infancy. Eliza was the daughter of John Sherwood and Mary Copeland. Any interest, please e-mail me.

Cork, Ireland, his mother was Jane O'Regan probably born in Ireland.

His siblings were:

Josephine (Jo)
Gertrude
Christine (Chris)
Margaret (Peg)
Kathleen
Denis

Would some kind person please do a lookup in the 1901 census, I can return the favour as I have access to all US census.

What other resources in Worsester are available to me. I know the family moved at some time to Liverpool, I think it was after 1901.

Brendan O'Donoghue
Dublin, Ireland

Anyone know of the Holloway family residing in Upton on Severn? Richard was b. ~1792 in Upton and lived there until his death in 1876. He married Sarah Brook in 1815 in Tewkesbury and had at least four children: George, William, Ann (single mum) & James. Sarah died ~1839. Richard and George were bricklayers/masons.

I suspect that they were non-conformist as there is no record of Richard's birth in the parish registers.

Evesham - Cowl Street

evening all, I am looking for information about William Faulkner and his wife Susan who in 1861 were resident in Evesham, Worcs. The census handwriting is difficult but they were lodging in a place that reads something like Upper Mill Hill. Adjacent census pages suggest they are near to Cowl Street. They were nailmakers by occupation. I suspect they were living in some large hostel provided by an employer, and I wonder if anyone knows who that employer might have been, what might "upper mill" refer to for example?

I am following this avenue of enquiry as the 1861 census is the earliest record I have of William Faulkner. His marriage to Susan (nee Palmer, of Bristol) must have happened sometime prior to 1861 but I can find no record of it. In 1871 they had moved to Dudley, and by 1881 they were in Bristol. Perhaps they married in the Evesham area in the mid to late 1850s? Any scraps of info gratefully received!

Sobieski - strange baptismal name in Jewkes, Caddick & Turley families in Dudley

Has anyone come across any female ancestors baptised Sobieski? I'm descended from all three of these familes. I've found Sobieski in baptismal recods in all three families. I've checked and it is a Polish surname and there was a King Jan Sobieski of Poland in the 1790s. A lot of English mercenries went to Poland to fight for him. Does anyone know why this name has turned up in Dudley?

I think her parents might have been John and Lydia Smith (Belbroughton - this may well be a red herring?) but I don't know enough about the area to know where to start to investigate.

Kenelm Winslow Kempsey, England - Descrepencies

Hoping someone can help me here as a lot of folks seem to be familiar with this family.

I am a descendent of Josias Winslow (brother of Pilgrim Edward) who is the grandson of Kenelm Winslow of Kempsey, Worcestershire, England. I have found conflicting reports of Kenelm's parents. Some say that his parents are William Winslow and Mary Bucke, other say that William and Mary are his brother and sister in law and that his parents are actually Thomas Winslow and Lady Cecelia Agnes Tansey. That would mean Kenelm's father was 81 (according to popular dates for them) when Kenelm was born. Some sources say that Thomas and Lady Tansley were Kenelm's grandparents, not parents. Does anyone have any insight here? Preferably some actual documentation.

Thanks a bunch! Rachelle

I'm tracing ancestry of Samuel GOODWIN b.3 June 1846 in Kidderminster; m.31 July 1899 Kidderminster to Mary Maria STANLEY; d.31 July 1898.
Samuel's father is believed to be Thomas GOODWIN b, about 1800 (possibly in Ombersley). I have been unable so far to trace birth cert from GRO so would be grateful of any info to determine mother's name.

Samuel's children were:
Thomas Stanley Goodwin b. 7 June 1870
George William Goodwin b. 27 October 1872
Susannah Mary Goodwin b. 29 December 1874
Henry Llewellyn Goodwin b.
Griffin brick wall - married or not?

Thomas Griffin was born in Leigh with Bransford on 20th November 1822, and later married Rebecca Wood of the same village in 1845.

In Thomas' birth record his mother is listed as Maria, a single woman, and Thomas a bastard. No father is listed. However on his marriage certificate his father is marked as Thomas, a cordwainer. It seems Thomas knew his father, but did his parents ever marry?

I've not been able to confirm a marriage record on LDS for the elder Thomas and Maria (either a Thomas Griffin marrying a Maria, or a Maria Griffin marrying a Thomas). As the younger Thomas was listed as illegitimate at birth, would Griffin have been his mothers name rather than his fathers? Even if his father was known?

Hello all

Is anyone able to check the abov index for a marriage for me please?

I am trying to find a Joseph Glover marrying an Eliza ??
between 1814~1820 in the worcs area.Joseph states on census years that he was born in Blackston nr Bewdley.Eliza states
Upton,so itmay well be within these areas.Joseph was born 1786/7 and Eliza 25 December 1794.

By about 1820 they are both in the Camberwell area of London were they remained until they died.

There is a posilbility that Eliza's surname could be Hay or Marsden but not really 100% sure.

Any help most greatly appreciated.

Regards John
I have a lovely photo of Thomas Haselwood's memorial in an Abbey in Pershore Cotswolds UK. His family came from Yorkshire & Northamptonshire. He was the eldest son of Falke ( I think ) & died in 1824. His wife was Elizabeth Dinelery of Charlton. He had son Francis who had a son called Thomas who was knighted in 1681. His wife was Margaret. The memorial is of Thomas' widow & son kneeling down in front of him as he is lying down dead. It is beautiful. If anyone wants to see it e.mail.............karenpjones61@hotmail.co.uk

Tickles From Droitwich

I am looking for any information on the Tickle/Tickell family who lived in Droitwich from the late 17th century to at least the late 18th century. They descend from George Tickle who married Elizabeth Hanley in 1689 in Astley, Worcestershire, and then moved to Droitwich. The only information I have on them is from the IGI indexes, and I am hoping that there is someone out there who has more (maybe descendants researching the same family). Thanks in advance.

Marriages of George Tickell

I am trying to find the date of the marriage of George Tickell to Mary, which occurred about 1786 in Droitwich, and which doesn't appear in the IGI indexes.

I'm also trying to find the marriage of George Tickell's parents, George and Mary who, I believe, were married somewhere in the period between 1853 (when George senior would have been) 20 and 1766 (when George junior was born), at a time also not covered by the IGI indexes.

If anyone knows when either of these marriages took place, or have access to the Droitwich records and can help, I'd be very grateful. Since I don't know the maiden names of either of the Marys finding these marriages will give me two more lines to try and research.

I have traced my Tickell back to Droitwich, at least in theory. I have yet to get hold of any transcripts (only got IGI indexes). My earliest Tickell ancestor was George Tickell who married Elizabeth Hanley (or Stanley) in Astley, Worcester, in 1689 All of his children were born and baptised in Droitwich and the family remained there for some generations. I would appreciate any information to add to the bare bones of indexes of baptisms and marriages. I'd also appreciate it if anyone has a record of that first George's descendant's (also called George) marriage to a Mary around 1786 in Droitwich. The marriage appears to fall right into a gap in the IGI indexes.

Finally, I'd welcome any information regarding that first George's parentage: his birth doesn't appear anywhere in the indexes. Thanks in advance.

I am researching Miller or Millard family originally from Stoud. On the 1841 census the family is listed as Miller. On 1851 and 1861 census the family is Millard. (Henry Miller/Millard born 1811). Son William H Miller relocated to Birmingham, Warwickshire and is listed as Miller on 1881 census.I am researching his son Arthur Alfred Miller (at birth) Millard when he married. Can anyone come up with a theory on which name is correct?
