Classification: Query
There are some sad stories here and it seems only fitting to try and find out more about these children and acknowledge their brief but no less loved place in each of our family histories.
If I can add a query of my own to this thread, do you know if the GRO only provides certificates to the parents?
My gran's sister had a stillborn daughter in the 40s - this only came to light in 1968 when my sister was born, and my gran's sister revealed to my mum that her own daughter would have been 21 now had she lived. No-one in the family had known until then and it was never really discussed properly so that's the only snippet of information that remains.
Both my gran and her sister passed on some years ago, but my mum would love to know if the little girl had a name and where she might have been buried.
Although I'm related (something-cousin-something-removed probably) I'm not next of kin, so would I be able to apply for certs?
