My grandmother Mary Kelly migrated from Abbeyfeale Nov. 1920
meeting Anna Broderick Ellis Island NYC. Mary's sisters remaining behind were Nora, Margaret(Mag), brother Matt who never married, also Gerald. Father of all was Patrick Kelly & mother Ellen Kelly was Anna Brodericks sister. I want to know more about Patrick Kelly and/or Ellen Broderick. Daughter of Mag = Ilene Hartnett, said to live in area today. She has several daughters. ANYONE ELSE researching this line?!

SMYTH, Ralph Charles Montgomery b, 21 June 1873. d, 12 Sept 1902

Ralph was born at Drogheda, Ireland. I have traced his ancestors and part of his path through the 1891 England Census and an Obituary in The Irish Times: following his death in 1902 he was buried at Beaulieu Cemetery. However, I can't find if he married, had children, or where he lived before his death - I cannot access the 1901 Irish Census.

Ralph was the son of George Charles Smyth and Ada Louise Mary Lyons-Montgomery, of Newtownstalaban, Drogheda. He had three brothers and seven sisters, none of the sisters married. I have traced one of the brothers, Saville Lambert Smyth to Birmingham where he died in 1956.

Any help is appreciated.

McCarthy and Dillon Family

I am looking for any information on the families of my gggrandparents, Denis McCarthy (born around 1775) who married Johanna Dillon (born around 1783). They came to Canada in 1825 with their children Mary(1804), Owen(1808), Patrick(1808), John(1813), William(1813)(my ggrandfather), Johanna(1815) and Ellen(1817). They were apparently from around Mitchelstown. There was a William (son of Denis and Johanna) baptized at Ballygiblin and his sponsors were Andrew Dillon and Bridget Dillon. Any help would be so appreciated. Thanks. Maureen

I am looking for additional information on Cornelius Brosnahan b.10-30-1805 at Castleisland, Kerry Co., Ireland. He was married to Bridget O'Keefe. They had 7 Children in Ireland that I am aware of; Hugh Brosnahan b. 1840, Thomas Brosnan b.1845, Michael Bresnahan b1849, Timothy Bresnahan b 1847, Daniel Brosnan b 1847, Bridget Brosnan b 1855, Dennis Brosnan b1857. Eventually, the family settled in Dowagiac, Cass Co., Michigan in the 1860's. The sons took on different spellings of their last name. I do believe Cornelius's parents were Hugh and Caroline Brosnahan (his parents names were listed on his death record).

I am trying to trace the possible Irish marriage of my gt gt grandparents, Catherine O'CONNOR & John WATSON.

Catherine was from Bandon and John was stationed at the barracks in Bandon sometime after the 2nd Btn. Royal Regiment came back from almost 6 years in Canada 1838-1843/44.

Their marriage would have been sometime between 1845-1853 as their 1st child was born on Cephalonia, Greece in 1854 just before the regiment was sent to the Crimea.

Any ideas where to look for a marriage record? There is no sign of such a record in John's Army papers at The NA, or in the Overseas Marriage Records Of the Army Chaplains.

Regards, Ann

John Stanley from Ireland to Canada to Vermont

I'm looking for info on John Stanley. From census info he was b. abt 1824-1830 in Ireland. He then immigrated to Canada. He married Ann(a)Anderson THOMAS Aug 07 1851 in St. Andrew`s Church, Quebec, Canada. John and Ann' children were Jane Stanley born Aug 22 1852 in Port Neuf, Quebec,Canada; Annie b. Aug 8, 1854 in Quebec, Canada; Isabel b. abt 1856 in Canada; Gilbert b. abt 1858 Canada; David (Daniel) b. abt 1860 Canada;Margaret b. abt 1864 Canada and Henry M. b. abt 1876 in Newbury, Orange,Vermont. The Stanley family left Canada and went to Vermont, sometime around1869. Their daughter Jane, my gg-grandmother, married Austin Betters, Mar 07 1869, Newport, Vermont. In the 1880 census the John, Ann and the rest oftheir unmarried children are in Newbury, Vermont. I have no idea what happened to any of John' children, except Jane. Son Daniel married and looks to have stayed in Newbury, Vermont into the early 1900's. I don't know where in Ireland John is from, nor who his parents/sibs were. Not when he died nor his wife Ann. I tried looking up John Stanley on the LDS site. I did get a hit for a John Stanley, christened Dec 29, 1825 in Macroom, Cork, Ire. His parents were listed as John Stanley and Cath. I looked up John Stanley and Cath and got a hit for John Stanley b. abt 1783 in Cork and Catherine McCulla b. abt 1788 in Cork, they married sometime in 1809 in Cork. I have no idea if this child John is mine, but he was the only one that came up during the 1824-1830 birth time period. Nor do i have any idea if the couple listed with the child are the same ones that married in 1809. Any help/ info would be appreciated.

Many thanks, Morgan Cole
I am researching Anthony Kennedy, son of Major Peter Kennedy. Anthony was born abt. 1811 in county Mayo. He married Mary HOUSTON/HUSTON/HESTON, most likely in Mayo. She was the granddaughter of Sir Abbott Houston of England. Anthony Kennedy and Mary Houston Kennedy had at least two children in Ireland, presumably in Mayo, who included:
Martin Kennedy b. abt. 1833 and Mary Kennedy b. abt. 1840. Anthony Kennedy and his wife and two children emigrated to Teetotal Settlement/Cork Settlement, New Brunswick circa 1840.

Any information on Anthony Kennedy, his father, the Houstons/Hustons or related families would be greatly appreciated. I'm happy to share the information I have on this family.
O'Toole/Toole

Looking for information on John O'Toole/Toole and Mary formerly Barret. They were both born in County Mayo in Mid 1800s. They eventually moved to Leeds and their children were all born there. They are called: James, Mary, Annie, Thomas and Francis. Francis is my GG Grandfather.

There is a little confusion over the surname as it should be O'Toole although on some records its Toole. This is because they were in poverty and the English came to Ireland to try and make everything English. They told people if there names sounded more english then they would give them some food.

Hope someone can help.

Thanks

Nicola

Sullivan/Collins of Co. Cork?

I am looking for the birthplaces of my gg-grandparents, Patrick Sullivan, b ca 1818, and Mary COLLINS, b.ca 1820, who were in Ridgebury,Bradford Co., PA, in the mid 1840s. I do not know the names of their parents, but Patrick and Mary's children were named Thomas, Mary, Margaret, Ann, and Timothy who were all born in Ridgebury. If they were named traditionally according to their grandparent's first name, that would mean that Patrick's parents were Thomas and Mary. However, I'm not so sure that Mary's parents were Timothy and Margaret. I found Mary and four of the children in the 1850 (Ridgebury Township)US Census living with Daniel Collins, age 55 and two of his children Daniel, Jr., age 22, and James, age 18. Daniel's wife , nor any other females, was listed. Mary Sullivan was listed age 30, Her children were Thomas, age 7, Mary age 11, Margaret 4, and Ann 1. (Timothy who was born ca 1852). Patrick Sullivan wasn't listed even though he was obviously alive somewhere
and both were listed in the 1870 and 1880 census reports with some of their children. Patrick died 28 January 1890 and his will left his farm to his son Timothy whose family
had been living with them, and he mentioned his girls with their husband's names. My question would be where was Patrick in 1850 and could Mary have been living with a relative, not necessarily her father at that time. Timothy's children were named traditionally, Patrick, Mary, Helena, Lawrence after the two sets of grandparents, and then
Margaret, Thomas, Ann, Timothy, Katherine, Agnes, Johanna, and Cecelia.
A list of Irish places of origin for Sullivans, but not Patrick, were Kilmurry, Clanhive, and Ovens. The Collins families were listed as Desert Serges, Dreanough, Mossgrove, and Kinmurry. (Kinmurry and Kilmurry the same or near each other?)
The only thing I ever hear my Grandmother Helena Loretta SULLIVAN Richmond (2nd dau. of Timothy Sullivan and Kathryn HURLEY) say about her family's origin was "Marra, God Help Us". Could she have said Beara or was there a Marra? Could it have been Kin or Kilmarra (murry)?
Nancy Frey Pettinelli, ncyfrey@yahoo.com

Hi,
I know it's a long shot, but I am carrying out research for a friend, into the Dooley family from Ireland. The only information I have is that they were William Dooley and Margaret McIntyre (parents) I am not sure if the parents ever married.

Children:
Margaret (born Ireland 4th July 1884) died 9th February 1928 Montréal Canada. Mary born 22nd October 1886 She died on November 4th 1978 Montreal Quebec. & William (Jr)circa 1898/9. I think he died in Liverpool aged 2

Sometime before 1893,the children were placed into the care of the Liverpool Catholic Children Protection Society and then sent to Canada, where they were put up for adoption. I have found a possible record of death for a Margaret McIntyre -McIntyre Margaret 32 Liverpool Sep qtr 8b 100 - .This is the only one registered in Liverpool.

Any help would be appreciated, such as birth record s of children especially. Unfortunately, I have no idea whereabouts in Ireland they came from. Mary's birth certificate was lost by her adoptive family in Canada

Thanking you in anticipation
Frank
Massachuseets prior to 1857. 3 children according to 1860 Suffolk County Census: Patrick (Henry) 1857 MA; Margaret 1858-1859 MA; John 1859. Apparently moved on to Vermont. (1 child born in Vermont: Jeremiah b. 18 Sep 1861 VT d. 28 Sep 1883 Detroit MI.)

MOTHER: Hannah (Anna, Hanora) possibly Wallace, born in Ireland around 1834. Died around 1893 Detroit Michigan. Listed as widow in 1870. Children listed on 1870 census are: William 13, Henry 12, Margaret 10, Jeremiah 8.

On the next census William is gone. Could be due to marriage or death. Unknown. Jeremiah is also gone having been killed by a horse at age 22. As is Margaret who married Walter C. Israel 09 Oct 1879.

The only clue I have to Patrick and Hannah's origins is a photograph of a memorial stone that my grandfather had. Unfortunately it was for the wrong Patrick and Hannah and, since it was taken in 1968 both his parents and grandparents were not around to set him straight. What I am hoping is that he at least got the location of his grandparent's birth right. On the stone is carved Knockbrack(h). I could very well be wrong but I'm under the assumption that this is near Tralee and I believe Tralee is in County Kerry (wish I could sideswipe to the net to check that out.).

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I've found nothing on the Irish sites that helps me connect the Sullivan and Wallace families to mine.

Thanks in advance,
Chris Thomas coloknight@verizon.net

I have a number of other items to look at through other Irish Internet sites, such as, a James Uriell - Chief Baron of the Exchechor of Dublin at start of the 15Century and whether in 1598 a Uriell (of the Norman (Normandy, France) family) went to Westmeath and settled in the eastern part of Louth, Ireland, after the invasion. - this maybe the key of how they went from France to Ireland, much later. The invasion was 1169-1270 The history books show that Normans left Normandy (France) and invaded Ireland from England. A feudal system was imposed, and modern agricultural practices were introduced. Towns and cities were built. English common law was practiced. The government was centered at Dublin in the "Pale" - mid-east county. Norman-Irish lords held 70% of the Island.

Lawrences of Longford County

I am planning to visit Longford County. I am from Canada and especially would like to find if there are any relatives of Samuel and Margaret Lawrence from Longford County. (I know Samuel’s brother was Robert Lawrence, married to Anne). Samuel’s son, William (born in1862), joined the force (Royal Irish Constabulary), on April 6th, 1880 at the age of 18 for a very short time, his number was 45302 . He settled in Langley, B.C., Canada, in 1883, joining his sister (Margaret) who was already there with her husband.

I have some baptismal records from the Parish Church of Kilcormmick, in diocese of Ardagh in the County of Longford. All ceremonies were performed by T.Henry.

March 5th 1849 Susan Lawrence – daughter of Samuel & Margaret Lawrence

July 2nd 1854 – Margaret Lawrence (daughter of Samuel & Margaret.

Aug 1852 - Sarah Annie Lawrence (daughter of Samuel & Margaret)

March 5 1854 Susan – daughter of Robert and Anne Lawrence

Oct 7 185? Isaac – son of Robert and Anne

I do not have the baptismal record for William (born 1862), son of Margaret and Samuel Lawrence, brother of Susan and Margaret, from Longford County from whom I was descended.

He had a son, Glover Samuel Lawrence (born in 1897), settled in Dawson Creek, British Columbia, Canada and went back to visit relatives in Ireland after serving in the 1st world war in France (which is why I think we must still have relatives in your area). His son is my father, William Lawrence (born in 1931) of Dawson Creek, British Columbia, Canada.

My father wrote to the Rev. B.W. Kingston, the rectory Tashinny, Ballymahon , Co. Longford, in 1988 and was told that there appeared in regististry three or more Lawrence families in the Kenagh area (Kilcommick) and that marriage and burial records do exist. He mentioned the Enniskillen registers (1666-1871) from the R.C.B. Library, Braemor Park, Rathgar, Dublin 6. He said that there was no doubt that present day people living in Cartrons, Clough and the Island, etc., would be able to tell us where the Lawrence homesteads were, as such details are usually passed on in local lore.

If you are able to help me research, I would appreciate knowing costs, time, etc. Basically, all I want to know is if there are any relatives there of Samuel and Margaret, (or Robert & Anne), so we can correspond with them and possibly meet them and also to have someone tell us the area where our ancestors lived so we can visit the land. I would also love to know if you can find any other info tracing Samuel and Margaret's birth and death info, parents, family tree. (I do have the basic Lawrence family tree with hits roots in England and how the name came to Longford)

Any help or contacts you could give at all would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you,

Cathy Cole

(nee Lawrence)

Hi I am trying to find some imformation about my great great grandfather and grandmother. They were both born posibly in Kerry about 1823, if they were not born in Kerry they had links there and would have left about 1857 for England. They were married and took their four sons with them John, James, William and Joseph (my great grand father) who were all born in Ireland, we believe they were a catholic family. They settled in West Cumberland and we know lots about them from then on but know nothing at all about their life in Ireland. If anyone comes across these names or has any idea how to proceed it would be a great help.

Looking for parents of John Steacy(1776-1863) and Sarah Steacy(1783-1853). Their marriage license was issued in Ferns in 1804. They came to US around 1811 and settled in Strasburg, Lancaster County, PA. I have John's father as Wesley Steacy, born County Derry, but no dates. I don't think Wesley ever came to the US. Sarah's father was Edward Steacy (c.1740-1815). He was apparently born in County Wexford and died in the US. Edward also had a son, John (1786-1845) who married an Eliza Graham. They had a son, John Wesley Steacy. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

However, these records give the name Mariam (instead of Mary?), Petri (instead of Peter?) and Bridgidae (instead of Bridget?). Can anyone tell me, am I right that these are RC names used instead of the more common names? Was this usual in RC registers in Ireland? I'd be grateful for any info.

George Smyth family

George Smyth was b. 30 Jun 1791 in Monkstown, Dublin, Ireland, his father was George Smyth and his mother was Elizabeth. My line is a George Smyth Bagnall b. 1808 in Kingston, and baptized in St. Catherine's parish in Dublin, Dublin, Ireland. I have all data since his birth. What I am looking for is where did his middle name of Smyth come from. We know his father's name was John Bagnall, no other data. John owned several semi-commercial pieces of land on Lower George St. in the 1835 plus era. I have a theory that John's wife's name was Rebecca Smyth. Why, he named his eldest daugher Rebecca Bagnall(sister to GSBagnall, second he named his last son George Smyth Bagnall. I know the Smyths were in the Stone business and built several stone piers in the Dublin area and elsewhere.. In about 1828 John Bagnall was given the lease to the land on Lower George St., the lease came from a Robert Bagnall, but we cannot pin down that Robert was the father of John. Later John Bagnall would pay off the lease and owned the land and later deeded it to his daughter Rebecca Bagnall with some contingencies. In 1860 Rebecca Bagnall(spinster0 would deed the land to a Mary Ward. Rebecca died in Ireland in 1862. My Bagnall family eventually moved to Quebec, Canada and then to Jacksonport, Door County, WI. Any information or leads would help. We think John Bagnall died in 1836 when he maide out his will of which we have a copy. thank you very much.
