am trying to trace my fathers (Joseph Diamond) ancestors from Co Mayo in Ireland.
I have managed to trace back as far as 1878 - I have the birth certificate of my grandfather dated 7th August 1878 and his place of birth as Muckroe. On the birth certificate his name is spelt James DIMOND (and not Diamond - as we spell it - possibly an error, as my great-grandmother could not read or write).
The birth was registered in the district of Foxford, in the superintendent Registrars District of Swinford, Co Mayo. James's mother (my great grandmother) is shown as Bridget DIMOND, and his father (my great grandfather) as John DIMOND - as I say the spelling may be either DIMOND or Diamond.
According to my father, John's parents (my Great-great grandparents) were William Diamond and Nancy Diamond (nee Deacy) - who married in October 1829. They had two sons John my great grandfather (above) who married Bridget (nee Naughton) and James who never married.

I have been unable to find John and Bridget's marriage, or John's birth certificate (I don't know the date of his birth). If you know of any way I could find this information I would be really grateful - as I seem to have hit a brick wall at the moment.
