McHugo Family County Galway

I have been searching for the birth place of my great grandfather Thomas McHugo. After consulting the East Galway Family History Center in Woodford and finding no record of him or his brother Lawrence I decided to check out the Western part of Galway. Thomas was born in 1825 in County Galway he left for the US in 1845. He settled in Minnesota after 7 years. His brother Lawrence came to the US with his wife Anne and children Patrick and Mary in 1852 and settled in Minnesota as well. There is some evidence that there were McHugo families in the Connaught. Could my Thomas have come from there?

DIAMOND in MAYO query

am trying to trace my fathers (Joseph Diamond) ancestors from Co Mayo in Ireland.
I have managed to trace back as far as 1878 - I have the birth certificate of my grandfather dated 7th August 1878 and his place of birth as Muckroe. On the birth certificate his name is spelt James DIMOND (and not DIAMOND - as we spell it - possibly an error, as my great-grandmother could not read or write).
The birth was registered in the district of Foxford, in the superintendent Registrars District of Swinford, Co Mayo. James's mother (my great grandmother) is shown as Bridget Dimond, and his father (my great grandfather) as John Dimond - as I say the spelling may be either Dimond or Diamond.
According to my father, John's parents (my Great-great grandparents) were William Diamond and Nancy Diamond (nee Deacy) - who married in October 1829. They had two sons John my great grandfather (above) who married Bridget (nee Naughton) and James who never married.

I have been unable to find John and Bridget's marriage, or John's birth certificate (I don't know the date of his birth). If you know of any way I could find this information I would be really grateful - as I seem to have hit a brick wall at the moment.
Many thanks for any help you can give.
If you know of ANY man(or family) named JUDGE(or Breheny, same thing in Gaelic),who moved from Ireland to Newfoundland before 1837,it is about 98% certain you just found my ancestor.(It is always possible they moved first to England or elsewhere,so settling in Nfld. is the main query). Most likely were from Sligo(according to an older relative),Mayo,Roscommon, etc. Could have arrived in later 1700s,just that I can find records in 1837.
Standard names over past 200 years have been Peter Joseph Judge,Joseph Peter, Francis Joseph,William Patrick, and similar combinations, with Margaret for girls in all families, plus obviously the very common Irish names.
If your family(in Ireland or elsewhere) traditionally has these names as standard over 200 years or more, please contact me. Almost all Judges in Nfld. over past 200 years are related.I have so far compiled 68 pages on them and happy to exchange information. Thanks.Ward.wardgreene@hotmail.com

Help in locating Dillon and Cannaught or Connaught

My gr-gr-grandparents immigrated to America from Ireland sometime in the 1850s. Their names were Michael Dillon ( abt 1834) and Mary (Cannaught or Connaught) Dillon (b abt 1834) I do not know from what area they immigrated from nor do I know if their surnames are spelled correctly. I have searched these names and several places such as Roscommon, Connaught have been mentioned. I do not know if my grandparents were married while still in Ireland or they meet and married in America. The first record I can find about them is the 1860 Federal Census for Louisville, KY. While there they had two children Cornellia (Nellie/Ellen) age 3 and John age 1 also living with them were a Mike Quinn and a Ann Quinn. They moved to the St. Louis, Missouri area after 1870. In the 1880 Census (there are two -- one in St. Clair County, IL and the other for St. Louis, MO) they had two cousins living with them -- Mike and Ellen Humphreys.

Family members say that my G Grandfather, James Ryan, came from Sligo during the famine years to Brooklyn. I saw a posting in Ancestry.com that shows one James Ryan born in 1825 to William and Mary Ryan, but there are no details to substantiate. I have found him and his wife Catherine in the 1860 Brooklyn Census. Does anyone have a record of Ryan in the
Sligo area in 1825 to 1850? I would like to get a record of his Irish Family. Bill Ryan

Hi,
I know it's a long shot, but I am carrying out research for a friend, into the Dooley family from Ireland. The only information I have is that they were William Dooley and Margaret McIntyre (parents) I am not sure if the parents ever married.

Children:
Margaret (born Ireland 4th July 1884) died 9th February 1928 Montréal Canada. Mary born 22nd October 1886 She died on November 4th 1978 Montreal Quebec. & William (Jr)circa 1898/9. I think he died in Liverpool aged 2

Sometime before 1893,the children were placed into the care of the Liverpool Catholic Children Protection Society and then sent to Canada, where they were put up for adoption. I have found a possible record of death for a Margaret McIntyre -McIntyre Margaret 32 Liverpool Sep qtr 8b 100 - .This is the only one registered in Liverpool.

Any help would be appreciated, such as birth record s of children especially. Unfortunately, I have no idea whereabouts in Ireland they came from. Mary's birth certificate was lost by her adoptive family in Canada

Thanking you in anticipation
Frank
Patrick J & Bridget (Burke) Murphy.........Toomore Parish - County Mayo

Searching for any information on the following family members

Patrick J Murphy b: 03/13/1842 in County Mayo
Bridget Burke b: 11/25/1849 in England

Patrick's parents were John & Mary (Gallagher) Murphy, both of County Mayo, and his grandfather was John Murphy, also from County Mayo. John Murphy & Mary Gallagher were supposedly married on 04/22/1837 in Toomore Parish, Gallen Barony, County Mayo. They had six sons, Stephen, John (1838), Patrick (1842), Anthony (1844), Thomas (1845) & Michael (1851).

Patrick J Murphy immigrated to the US in December 1868 while his wife Bridget (Burke) Murphy remained behind in England until the birth of their first child, Michael Luke Murphy.

Port of departure was thought to have been from Liverpool & port of arrival in the US in unknown at this time.

Looking for any information of any kind on these family members, especially any type of church records (birth, baptism, marriage, etc...). Thought that maybe the location of the marriage of Patrick & Bridget (Toomore Parish) might be of some help. I am not familiar enough with the way the parishes are/were set up there in County Mayo at that time.

Any information or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hello,

I am trying to find any information on my G-Grandfather John F. Phillips (possibly McPhillips) According to my grandfather's WWI draft card, he came from County Roscommon. He was born in 1854 and emigrated to England sometime before 1874. He married my G-Grandmother Susannah Marie Downs in Warrington, Cheshire, England in Dec 1874. From their marriage certificate, I found out his Father's name was Thomas, and she was the daughter of John Downs and I know her mother's name was Ann (Ray) Downs. Initially I had gotten some bad info placing John and Thomas's family in County Down but I now know for sure it was Roscommon. Can anyone possibly enlighten me further?

Thanks, Mike Phillips

Goheen Ancestors

I have reason to believe that the decendants from our family came from Ireland to America around 1700. A Thomas Goheen. I have been told by ancestors that we were originally French Huguenot and our original ancestor Thomas Goheen (French spelling Gohin or Gouin) left France early 1600's and came to Ireland with his wife Anne deRoy Goheen. I am looking for anyone that might have information in their family tree that would include these ancestors. As the story my uncle and father told me, two Irish brothers Thomas and either John (James) came as British soldiers around 1710 and settled in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. All information will be greatly appreciated. I have always believed that I was of Irish decent (I do have Irish on other sides of my family), but I would like to know if my surname is of some Irish origin. Thank you!

Webber [Weber]/Watkins

Several Webber researchers are extremely interested in tracing the lineage of Paul Webber [Weber] of Magdeburg, Germany. The information regarding Paul and his wife vary greatly – but a composite of the data we have is as follows: “Paul Webber, who was born at Magdeburg, Germany in the year 1556, immigrated from Magdeburg, Germany to Connought Province, Ireland in the year of 1595 and he lived at Connought, Ireland five years. Paul Webber married Miss Pearl Watkins of Connought in the year of 1598. Paul Webber immigrated from Connought, Ireland to Birmingham, England in the year 1600. He raised two sons in Birmingham, England, John Webber, born in the year of 1601, Samuel Webber born in the year of 1603. Paul Webber died in Birmingham, England in the year 1644. He was 84 (actually must have been 88) years old if the dates are correct.“ Tom Hoppel Webber’s letter has several different dates.
I am new to family history. My father was Casper Patrick Hare born in San Francisco CA in 1921, died in Orange County Ca in 1995. His mother was Josehphine O'manski. I know his relatives were from Cork County Ireland and am starting to trace back my family tree. My father was a Captain in the Marine Corps for a while in the early to late 60's, I think. Please let me know if anyone can relate to any of this.

town & county name on grave stone

I have been trying to determine where my GGG-GF was from. My grandmother had saved an old map of from the NY Sunday News, for March 15, 1964, that was titled "Erin's First Families". My grandmother had noted on it:
"Clark's & Corbett's - Grandmother Cannon's family from Tyrone.
Michael Cannon from Connaught.
Markey's from County Meade "Towns Land of Ervey"'

I found that the Markey notation she made from the inscription of the gravestone of Francis Markey, who is my Great-great-great grandfather (died 24 January 1859, age 75). The full inscription reads:

SACRED
To The Memory of
FRANCIS MARKEY
A Native Of The Parish of Ennaskeen
Towns Land of Ervey, County Meade
Ireland
Who Departed This Life January
24th, 1859, Aged 75 Years

Also His Beloved Wife
FANNY MARKEY
Who Died February the 23rd, 1859
In The 74th Year of Her Age
---------------------------------
Requiescant in Pace Amen
---------------------------------
Erected By Their Affectionate Sons
P. & J. MARKEY
---------------------------------

I've been able to locate Connaught as a county and Tyrone but I can't find any reference to Meade or Ervey and I didn't know if anyone knows of any place that might have changed the spelling of it's name. I just don't know where to go to research it. Of course it could also be how the family spelled it after they came over to the US from Ireland. I don't know if my GGGGF could read or write so perhaps it was how his children understood his pronunciation of the word Meath and whatever town "Ervey" might be.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.
Pat Wilson-Perkins

Mary gave birth to 5 children Patrick, Mary, Kathleen, Eileen and Bridie O'Callaghan. Mary died shortly after her last child which would have been approx 1925. The girls were brought up in the Good Shepperd Convent in Limerick and Patrick was brought up by his father who then remarried and had more children. If anyone has any information, please email: nateice@hotmail.com.

Many thanks

Natalie Lyons

I know because it is mentioned in my ggrandfather's will to leave his one decade rosary that came down to him from his ggrandfather John Kelly of Atyflyn, County Galway. It is in handwriting so maybe it's Atyblyn. I can't find any town like this.

Thanks,
Barbara
Oregon

I am trying to find the next generation back on our family tree. My ggg grandfather John Tighe was born in county sligo in June 23,1809. He immigrated with his mother Mary Watts(?) Tighe in 1830. They first went into Canada. His brothers may of included Charles, James, Watts, Kim, William, Edward.

His father's name may of been Linn.

Common Names were Edward, Charles, William, Margaret, Mary Ann, Jane, and Joseph. We believe that he was protestant. The 1940 census in Canada says he is of the Church of England. We also belive John Tighe (1809) was a "bitter orangeman"
