Classification: Query
Surnames: Kennedy, Adair
In 1547 Thomas Kennedy and wife Janet, possessed the 26 shilling land of Knockdaw and had sons, David, Fergus & Thomas and 2 daus, Isobell and Cristyn.
He d. 26 April 1549 at Knockdaw, buried Colmonell,
and left to his wife lands which he held in tack from William Edzare (Adair) of Kynhilt (Kinhilt, Wigtownshire, Scotland).

William Adair had married prior AD1549, possibly as early as c.1530 to Helen Kennedy, dau of the Earl of Cassillis. The land of Knockdaw may have come to William Adair through a marriage settlement ?

Thomas Kennedy was succeeded by his son David Kennedy of Knockdaw who, in 1567-68 obtained half of the church lands of Colmonell, belonging to the rectory. (Were they both ministers ?) David Kennedy may have been succeeded by his brother Fergus Kennedy who, in 1600, was "dilstit" for "Raid of Dumfries".

In 1601 there was a Gilbert Kennedy of Knockdaw who was at the skirmish of Pennyglen, between Cassillis and Bargany, where his chief, Bargany, was slain.

In 1616 Fergus Kennedy of Knockda was named in a testament of Mr. James Ker, minister of Colmonell in years 1610-1615.
It was noted that a daughter of this laird of Knockdaw, Jonet Kennedy, was married to James Dalrymple of Stair.

Does anyone know of any deeds of Knockdaw in the 1500s ?
