GLENNON- Glinsk, Co Galway/Roscommon

My great grandmother, Mary Ellen Glennon came from East Co. Galway Ireland- in the very small town of Glinsk (practically in Roscommon). She was born on Dec 26, 1882 into a family of 11 children (I think but not definite.) Her parents were Patrick Glennon and Bridget Mulligan. The only info I have on her siblings are of brothers Michael, Thomas, and John.

Mary Ellen came to America around 1901 and then married a man named Patrick Joseph Glennon and they resided in Manhattan, NY until their deaths. Mary Ellen and Patrick had 6 children: Margaret, Elizabeth (betty), Thomas, Ellen my grandmother, James (Jim), and John. Mary Ellen died on January 16,1952.

John Glennon (Mary Ellen's brother) also emigrated to the US and was married to a woman named Rose. He left the US sometime in the 1950's to return to Ireland and care for 2 of his nieces. He then died in Ireland sometime in the 1960's (not sure if these are accurate decades)
If you know any information that would help me or if any of this strikes as a similarity to your family, please write me: Jenlp88@yahoo.com
Thank you!
Hi Everybody!,

I was wondering if somebody could help me find information on the following person and her family-

Honora Fergus or Ferguson
Born- 1835 Loughrea,County Galway,Ireland

She came to Australia on the ship - Thomas Arbuthnot on the 3/2/1850.

Philip Walsh (b 1847) married Bridget Coyne (b1849). Family information says that they came from County Gallway. I am still looking for the marriage certificate as their forst daughter was born in England. Their 3rd daughter Mary married Edward O'Hare. Again family information states that he came from Clonbur, County Gallway. He was born around 1871, and only appears in England on the 1901 census. Married Mary Walsh and lived in Jarrow, County Durham. Edward and Mary were my great grandparents.
Siblings for Edward O'Hare were Martin, John, Catherine, Anthony and Ann. Martin was supposed to have died at an early age in Clonbur.
Census entries for Philip Walsh and Bridget Coyne only give place of birth as Ireland.
Any information on these family names would be appreciated.
Thank you.

Morgan and Conneely names from Carrantubber, Glennamaddy, Galway County

My grandfather, Martin Morgan, was born in Carrantubber, District of Glennamaddy, County Galway on August 21, 1890.

His parents were John Morgan and Bridget Conneely Morgan. My grandfathers birth record indicates his father's profession was "landholder" which I assume means farmer. Based on the date of my grandfather's birth I am guessing John Morgan and Bridget Conneely were born around 1860-1870.

In addition to Martin, John and Bridget Morgan had the following children: Mary, Delia, Margaret, Patrick, Sabina and Nora. Patrick and Sabina lived their entire lives in Ireland. All the others immigrated to the US.

I am trying to research more about the Morgan and Conneely families from Carrantubber and would appreciate any leads people might provide.

Honor was born on June 20,1869 in Mullagh and left Ireland for the US in the 1880's with her sister (name unknown) upon her arrival lived and wokred in Belmont, Massachusetss before her marriage to Michael Manning. I am trying to trace her Irish roots.

Looking for descendants of John D'Arcy and Mary Sullivan who married 01 March 1859 in the Carna parish (possibly Loughaconeera where it is believed Mary lived), but later lived in Moycullen. Their lnown children - all born in Newtown, Moycullen, were:
John - 07 May 1868
Mary #1 - 08 Jun 1870
Mary #2 - 14 Mar 1873
Margaret - 22 Feb 1874
Andrew - 12 May 1879

The Porridgetown connection derives only from a comment from one of their living cousins in Kilkieran, Carna who mentioned Porridgetown as their residence. But their known children were all born in Newtown, Moycullen. Perhaps they moved to Porridgetown at a later date.

I do have some D'Arcy data extracted from the Irish civil records in the Oughterard area.

Looking for anyone who might be researching this family.

Dave Riley
Portsmouth, RI
Eddy Island

I am researching the following names; CONLAN, BERMINGHAM ,KEANE, LINNANE, GLYNN, FAHEY, CONNOLY, FLAHERTY, MAHON. All of these names have a connection to the village of Island Eddy, which once existed in Galway Bay.
I am a descendant of one of the seven families who resided there at one time. The village thrived during the 19th century and then declined in population due to emigration. In the 1970's there were only three inhabitants in residence. The island is no longer inhabited, but is used for sheep grazing by some of the descendants who live nearby. The islanders had contact, commerce and intermarriage with the surrounding communities of Oranmore,
Clarenbridge, Kilcolgan, Pollough, Ballindereen and Kinvara. I am trying to put together a bit of history and genealogy of the island. If anyone thinks that their research might yield a connection, and wishes to share information, please fell free to contact me.
Regards ,
Pat Conlon

______________________________
------------------------------

Researching great grandparents, Patrick Connolly and Bridget (Walsh) Connolly, purportedly from Spiddal, County Galway, Ireland. No date on when they emigrated, but my grandfather, Bartley Joseph Connolly, was born ca 1884 in St. Paul, Minnesota. The family moved to Portland, Maine ca 1894/95. At the time of my grandfather's marriage to Agnes Josephine Lamont (daughter of William Lamont and Mary Godfrey) in 1910, both Patrick and Bridget are noted as deceased on my grandparents' marriage certificate. Know the names are very common and this is a long-shot, but there is no other information available to me. Thank you very much.

I just return from this part of Galway. It was very intetesting and quite a eye opener. Met a cousin and went to the graveyard (which was a mess) found one stone but it was listed as the people living in Ballinross. The area of Tuam is not that big and Dunmore Home of the Birminghams/Birminghams was very small. it was just a taste and we did not have a car so we only spent one night at the St Anns B&B which is home to the Birmingham family. Boy I would love to attend a reunion of my family. I felt very connected to Frank and my cousin and I plan on going back. One of the intetesting things he told me is they do not hold the RC church records at the Archdioces. they are held in the Dunmore church. I sent for a roll of film and should be in next week it will be intetesting. The family is from Boston Ma

My grandfather, Edward Norton, was born in October of 1888 in Glenaun, Inveran, County Galway. His parents are Owen Naughton and Ellen Bradley. He came to Boston around 1906. So did his brother, Patrick, and his sister, Mary. Patrick died in 1911 in Boston. Mary never married but died in Medford, MA.

His son, also Edward went back to Galway and found relatives still living in the area. Apparently there was a brother named Owen, too. Over the years I've been shown pictures of relatives from Galway but no names were given.

I'd love to find descendants of the Naughtons who remained in Galway and learn more about my grandfather's family.

Thanks,
William and Bridget must have had a son named Patrick Burke as I have inhereted a picture from (i'm guessing) the late 1950's or early 1960's of Patrick in front a sign that was advertising "luxury cruises on Lough Corrib" and "motor launch St. Paul". The company's name was "P. Burke & Sons". Photo attached. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Ultach migration from South Ulster to Galway circa 1800 - Connolly

Hello

Can anyone help me please. I am trying to obtain information regarding the early 1800s migration of families from South Ulster to SE Galway (the Ultach migration).

Both sides of my family (Connolly/Connelly/Conneely) lived in the Gort area of Galway from the 1850s until the1870s. I have managed to locate the birth details for a number of the family from the parish records for Beagh, Gort Town and Kiltartan, but there are a number of births which should be listed in these locations but are not. Hence, I’m thinking of extending the search eastwards to include the parishes covering the Slieve Aughty region.

A very good local history of Beagh Parish was written in 1995 (“Beagh: a history and heritage” - unfortunately this book is now out of print and consequently has become like gold-dust in recent years!). In it the authors list the origins of the principal family names in the Parish in the mid to late 1800s. The Connolly entry states that the family were Ultachs who had originally settled in the Slieve Aughty Mountains. Three other family names had the same reference, namely Loughry, Reilly and Murray.

I notice from the Griffiths Valuation that the East Galway parish of Ballinakill had a concentration of Connolly/Conneely households during the 1850s and I am considering ordering the LDS film for this Parish – is it likely that these Connolly/Conneelys were also Ultachs?

There appears to be a dearth of literature relating to this large population movement from the North and this aspect of recent Irish history as a whole. From the snippets that I have been able to find on the web it seems that significant areas of Connaught were settled by the Ultachs in addition to the Aughty region: around Dunmore in Galway; around Ballintober in Mayo; and Ballintober in Roscommon. I believe that there is an annual commemorative Mass said in a Co. Mayo parish to acknowledge this migration. Any references supplied would be gratefully received.

Regards

Chris Connolly

In reasearching my Hansberry and Aylward ancestors in County Galway, I have come across a couple references to the place name "Keane's Pound." As best I can determine, it was near the boundary between the Parish of Kilbeacanty (my Hansberry ancestors were in the townland of Lisbrine in that parish) and the Parish of Peterswell.
Where is this place? "Glanagimlagh" or "Glanagimlogh"

On an 1864 marriage record (which appears, oddly enough, in duplicate -- the one registry says "cancelled" and refers to the other, where it also appears) the address of the bride, Mary Wallace, is given as Glanagimlogh or -lagh. The address of the groom, Michael Laffey, is "Toorina, Mullaglass" which puts him on the Renvyle peninsula, I think. But I'm mystified about the bride. I can't find anything like this in the gazetteers I have access to. The cancelled entry is from Renvyle; a note there says the marriage was solemnized in Clonbur District Oughterard Union. If someone can locate Glanagimlagh for me I'd be very grateful!

ALLEN, ALLAN, Galway

I am looking for information on and descendants of an Allen or Allan (spelled it both ways) family of Galway. Hugh and
Andrew Allen of this family went to Glasgow, Scotland in
19th century and founded Allan Steamship line, which ran a single (as I gather from steamship histories) liner across the ocean, often full of emigrants. They may also have had business or family connections in Arran. My 3X great grandmother, Catherine Allen, married at about age 16 Nathaniel Lowe, and had her first child possibly in 1837.

The family were supposedly respected landowners on the coast of Galway, maybe even among the first families (I suspect my great grandfather could speak blarney), and they were Protestant. They were originally French Huguenots, with the name Alleyne, and were driven from England to Ireland during one of the Tudor persecutions of Protestants. Catherine had a remarkable and strong willed temperament. The family clearly took pride in their heritage, as Catherine told the family history to my great grandfather. Most of the family stories are supposed to have been about her. Apparently, she had a broad, squarish face, as my grandfather and his daughters supposedly took after her.

EYRE Family of EYREVILLE near Kiltormer

I'm looking for information about the EYRE family of EYREVILLE near Kiltormer, Galway. According to family stories, Maria Ann EYRE of Eyreville, married Abraham SANDYS. I've found a record of such a marriage in Dublin in 1798. At that time, Eyreville was owned by Thomas Dancer EYRE and his wife Letitia. They had married in about 1787 or 1788 and had two children, Thomas Stratford EYRE and Elizabeth Florence EYRE. There is no mention of Maria Ann.

I found the baptism of a Maria Ann EYRE in Wye, Kent, England, in 1781, daughter of Thomas EYRE and Laetitia. Could this be the same family?

Does anyone know of Maria Ann EYRE of EYREVILLE or where I might search for information that would link her to EYREVILLE?

Also, does anyone know if the Kiltormer Church registers are available? I think this family were members of the Church of Ireland.

I'm looking for information on John Leonard and Brian Linnane c. 1828. John went to California about 1850-53. Brian Linnane was his brother. We have a old letter Brian sent to John dated 1882. The letter contains items of historical interest. It also mentions Brian Linnane's daughter, Margaret and that she had recently gotten married. We don't know if the rest of the family ever changed their surname from Linnane to Leonard. Brian was using Linnane in 1882. Any help will be greatly appreciated. I'm looking for parents of John and Brian and other siblings and decendents of Brian Linnane and if anyone else in this family immigrated. Thanks for reading this long message.

Mary Omalley Tully's sister, Ellen Omalley Tierney told her daughters that her mother's name was Bridget King. Their younger sister, Cecelia Omalley Scahill lists Cecelia Joyce on her death certificate. Mary Tully's death cert. verifies Bridget King is her mother. I can only assume Cecelia Scahill was their step-sister. Can anyone provide any info on these sisters? Mary had a large family in Louisville, Ky and Cecelia's family settled in Coalton, WV. My Tierney relatives settled in Amador and San Francisco, Ca. My issue with the step-sister theory is that Bridget King went on to marry a Tierney and have 2 more children. Divorce? Doesn't seem likely, but it is possible.

I'm looking for info. on Anthony Lacey who married a
Winifrid Berry (possibly in Clifden,Galway,dates??).
They were the parents of my G-Grandmother, Mary Lacey.
Mary Lacey was b.22 Dec.1862,in Clifden,Galway. The family was R.Catholic.I'd like to know ANYTHING about Mary, her parents (like dates & where they were from), and, also, if Mary had any siblings (and what were their names?).

Daughter, Mary Lacey met & married John Patrick Murray (son of James Murray & Mary Woodhouse),who was b.in 1855,in Westport,CO.Mayo. John Patrick Murray, his parents, and,the first 4, of his 10 siblings, moved to Clifden,Galway in about 1864. Apparently, that's where John met his future bride, Mary Lacey. I don't know where, or when, the wedding occured. They were R.Catholic...I assumed it was in a church.

Anyway, some of this family "came over" to N.America, around 1880,through Buffalo,NY, then, on to Ontario,Canada, settling in the town of Peterborough.

John Patrick Murray & Mary Lacey had 13 children, the first 2,twins, died at, or just after birth (26 Mar.1883).
The 11 others survived into adulthood.(I have all their names and dates)
John Patrick Murray had been a baker(like his dad) at one time & later a farmer. He died in Peterborough in 1934,
and is buried there.
Wife, Mary (Lacey) Murray died on 2 June,1914 also in Peterborough and is buried there.

If you have any connections to these families, or have any info to share, it would sure make my smile bigger to hear from you! Thank you for your time.
Warm Regards,
Patti
>Other connected names I'm researching: Murray,Woodhouse,
Tobin,Walsh,Lacey,Berry,Kehoe,Carney,Toole(O'Toole),and possibly,Ryan (so far).
