Lynch, Hurley, Storan surnames: locations in Ireland

Hello Cheryl,

Just a little info on the names which you mention...
1) starting with Lynch.. Lynch is on of the most plentiful and widely spread names in Ireland. They are to be found in all parts of the country. The origins of the name in Ireland is twofold. a) of Anglo Norman origins, they came in the 1100s with the Normans. They are believed to settled in County Meath originally, later moving to County Galway. At that time time they would be known as DeLench.
b) There were a number of ancient septs or families of Gaelic origin,called O'Loinsig, meaning mariner, based on the Irish word 'loinge' meaning a ship. They sprang up in various areas, mainly counties Cavan, Cork,Antrim/Down,
Clare, and Tipperary. Both the Anglo Norman and Gaelic families later became Lynch.
Hurley is an Irish name, originally from Co Clare, and also plentiful in Cork, but also fairly widespread now.
Storen. This name could be Irish as Storeen or Storan. Unlike the other two, it is a scarce name. Supposed to have originally been a Co Limerick family, which later moved to Galway. It can still be found in the west as 'Galway'
