Searching for the Parents or family of a Samuel MOODY who was born around c1786 in Ireland (not sure if it was in Nor. Ireland though), who was a linen weaver by trade and married to a woman known only as "Martha".
They came to Baltimore, MD first (around c1820? perhaps) and then settled in Pittsburgh, PA and found in the 1850 census there.
Would like to find out more about Samuel's family back in Ireland. I estimate his father's birth to be around c1758, but don't his name. If anyone can help it would be Most appreciated.
Thank You.

I am researching my Great-grandparents family and have got
as far back as 1855 when apparently the above was born.

He is shown in the 1881 census of Carlisle England so must
have moved there prior to his marriage to Mary-Ann in 1873
in Carlisle. As it appears no Irish census records remain
for 1861 it is difficult to establish what County he was
born in. if any one can give me any 'tips' as to where this
information could be found ( there are a few occurances of
this name in County Down ? ) it would be greatly appreciated

He, ( and his son, My Grandfather Thomas, were Watchmakers
& Jewellers )
Ralph was born at Drogheda, Ireland. I have traced his ancestors and part of his path through the 1891 England Census and an Obituary in The Irish Times: following his death in 1902 he was buried at Beaulieu Cemetery. However, I can't find if he married, had children, or where he lived before his death - I cannot access the 1901 Irish Census.

Ralph was the son of George Charles Smyth and Ada Louise Mary Lyons-Montgomery, of Newtownstalaban, Drogheda. He had three brothers and seven sisters, none of the sisters married. I have traced one of the brothers, Saville Lambert Smyth to Birmingham where he died in 1956.

Any help is appreciated.

MISSING IRISH RELATIVES EARLY 1800s

Both sides of our family moved to Glasgow during the Potato Famine. Am searching for any trace of Johnston WATTERSON (shoemaker) b abt 1823 James WATTERSON and George WATTERSON who settled in Glasgow about 1844 and their half sister ANN LENNOX b 1805. They were Protestants from possibly the Omagh area and I have lots of family history plus old photos to exchange with anyone related.

Also several HOLT brothers from County Tyrone with a similar story. The family were roof slaters and also settled in Glasgow. Ellen Milligan HOLT married William Hammond WATTERSON in 1900.

LIN WATTERSON ISLE OF WIGHT ENGLAND

I'm looking for connections to Hester (Acey, Essie) Ann MacIVER. She was born abt 1854 in Ireland. She died 11 Jun 1913 in Philadelphia, PA. Her death certificate list her name as Hester McKEEVER PEEL and her parents as Robert McKEEVER and Margaret McFADDEN. She married Robert PEEL abt 1872. The 1910 Census states that she immigrated in 1870. I have not been able to find any siblings or find her on a passenger list. I'm hoping to connect with others researching her.
I am trying to determine where in Ireland, Michael Hayes came from. He was born around 1833 in Ireland to John Hayes and Judith Devereau??. He does not appear on the 1852 census of Canada, but married Margaret Maher (Meagher) in Quebec in 1860. I know it is not much to go on but I am hoping someone can help me along. I am doing this for a friend who will be going to Ireland next year and would like to visit the place where her ancestors came from
Thank you.

My great-grandfather, Robert Caughern's family was from Ireland. I have checked passenger ship lists to no avail. I was beginning to doubt the information that had been handed down through the generations. Then I found our name listed in the Milesian families of Irland. I would be most appreciative of any information about the Caughern's from Ireland. Robert and his siblings were born in the 1850's in Tennesse, USA to William and Mary Caughern. I am guessing at an arrival date in the USA between 1803 and 1850. Thank you.

I was wondering if anyone could give me any information on my great-great-grandmother Mary Heffernan, all I know about her is:

She was born in 1879/80 somewhere in Ireland,
She moved to Swansea, Wales at some point and married Joseph Davies in 1906,
Her father was called John Heffernan, and his occupation was listed as "railway signalman" on Mary's marriage certificate, and John died before July 1906.
Also, the witnesses at her wedding were James and Annie Mooney.

Any information at all would be greatly appreciated,
Thanks,
Laura.

I am wanting to find the Marriage of Thomas McGibbon and Catherine McPherson i am not sure where they married in Ireland it may be in County Clare about the early 1800,s.
Thomas passed away before 1860 as Thomas and Catherine were given as parents on the marriage certificate of my Great Grandmother who was a Mary Malone but she took the name McGibbon also born about 1840 Count Clare.I can only assume that the parents of Mary Malone died and Thomas and Catherine were her Guardians.

My great grandmother Mary Malone(Also known as McGibbon) married in Perthshire,Scotland to a Peter McGregor in 1860. Mary had a sister Bridget born about 1838.

I would appreciate any information on this query.Any children born to Thomas and Catherine.I can only assume that Thomas McGibbon died in Ireland as i have searched the Scottish records and i cannot find any information of Thomas or Catherine.

Kind Regards
Janet
Australia.

Hello,
I'm searching for any one who is connected to my Day's who came over to England from Ireland and settled in St. Helens, Lancashire. The earliest census I have found them on is the 1861 living in Sutton St. Peasley Cross, St.Helens, Lancashire. There names were:-

Ann Day aged 50 Widow
Esther Day aged 21 Dressmaker
Michael Day aged 19 Labourer
Mary Day aged 14
Elizabeth Day aged 11
there was also a son Thomas aged about 10 but he didn't show up until 1870 when he married a Phoebe Dutton.
Ann's husband Thomas Day was quoted as being deceased on son Thomas's marriage certificate in 1870 so I'm guessing he died in Ireland before they arrived in England.

The two area's they lived in were Parr and Windle in St. Helens.

Elizabeth Day was my Great Grandmother and she married Patrick Shannon in St. Helens in 1877.

I've got all the family on different census's in 1871, except for Mary, she seems to be missing from further census's.

I've been looking for a connection with this family for over 8 years but haven't found any. If anyone knows of any Day's who settled around St. Helens would you please help.

Regards

Eileen

Scott Family in Ireland

I am searching for John Scott and his family in Ireland. I note in the 1665 Hearth Tax List for Taughboyne, Raphoe, Donegal both Scott and Reagh (now Rhea) families. Both of these families were interrelated before and after they migrated to America. I am not sure the families on the 1665 tax list are my relatives or in fact related, but they could be. I find the first documented information about John in the Piney Creek, Maryland (then Frederick County) area near the Monocacy River (near Taneytown) in the mid-to-late 1700's. He was a member of the Piney Creek Presbyterian Church. The church pastor was Joseph Rhea IV. If you have any information about my family, I would appreciate "Any" information. Thank you.
Thomas M.? Coen, c. 1820, Galway, Co Mayo

I am researching my maternal grandparents family, the Coens. In 1985 a distant relative paid to have a search done in Ireland. The specific area was Dungarvan, where my great-great grandfather, Thomas M.? Coen lived.
The study was inconclusive, but mentioned that there were Coens in Galway, and Rothscommon, and that my g.g grandfather was possibly from Galway, b. 1820's.
This Thomas Coen was a constable, he joined the force on Dec. 2nd, 1839, this record gave his birthplace as Co. Mayo.
Thomas married Ellen Rourke, (Rorke, Roarke) on Sept. 30, 1852. Children: Anna Marie b. 1864, Dorthea Jane b. 1866, James, Robert, unknown if there were other children. Robert, Anna, Dorthea immigrated to US-year unknown. James immigrated to Australia.
I would be interested in finding out who Thomas's parents were. I am also interested in finding out about Robert, my great grandfather.
Thank you for your help.
Sincerely,
Millicent Sweeney
I've traced my lineage to Ireland, but hit a quite important dead end. My few-times-great Grandfather is Isaac Mayes, born abt. 1830 in or near Belfast, I have his death record of Jun 27 1903 in Port Glasgow Scotland. He married Mary Ann Tolland and likely married her in Ireland. Their children are Robert, Maggie, Ellen, and possiby Charlotte and Sarah.

I'd love any info on Isaac, and especially info regarding his family- siblings, parents, etc.

Thank you!

I have been told that our surname, Ferdinand, comes from Spain, by way of Ireland. The story that has been passed down is that the family was banished from Spain during the Inquisition and they fled to Ireland and made their way to the US. I'm wondering if anyone has any information on Ferdinands living in Ireland at any time. If you do, please email me at ericasf@msn.com.

Basic advice needed on finding birth and marriage records

I am new to tracking down birth and marriage records in Ireland. I believe that my great-great grandparents (John Brennan, Margaret Brown), who immigrated to Chicago c. 1870, lived in the Enniscorthy, Co. Wexford area and had at least one child (Mary) before they left. I believe that Mary was born in 1866.

I have looked at a number of websites recently on finding birth and marriage records, but my head is spinning - information overload. Can anyone suggest the first three steps I should take to get birth and marriage records/information on these relatives?

Thanks,

Doug Brennan

Is there a place in Ireland called Luam or could it perhaps be a spelling mistake. I was also wondering if maybe my ancestor in the 1881 census was being evasive. After all her given age in 1871 was 48 and in 1881 was 50! I checked the actual pages and the ages are as given. I was also wondering if she may have given the incorrect age in 1871 to hide her true age for some reason as I've found her in 1861 aged 28 which near enough fits with the 1861 census. I'd like to trace her back to Ireland but am not holding out much hope at the moment :o(

Thanks
Sally

I'm searching for James Laughlin born 1847 in Ireland but later immigrated to America.
James married my gg aunt, Mary Ann Hadley in Ogden, Utah in 1870. He got a job with the Wells Fargo Company and moved to Eagle Rock, Idaho. They had a son Daniel born to them who only lived a year. In early 1872, James and Mary Ann moved to Pioche, Lincoln, Nevada where he worked for a mining company and ran a freight wagon business that furnished supplies for the miners and their families. A son and daughter were born to them.
Tragically, in 1875/1876 James was killed in a runaway freight wagon and buried in Pioche.
I'm trying to find his Laughlin family back in Ireland.
I am trying to trace living relatives/information regarding the Murray family who lived in the Salford area - my father was named William Alfred Murray - born in 1903 - died in Hope Hospital in September 1949.

I understand he had 3 sisters called Winifred, Betty (Elizabeth) and Maude.

Last known address was 10 Hawthorn Drive, Pendlebury, which I understand was his mother's address.

He was married to Lilian? and had a daughter Pauline?

I, sadly, am the result of a different relationship he had with my mother Doris - my name is Rosamund (Rosie) Auriol Beal and I currently live in Wiltshire with my husband.

If anyone has any information regarding my father/family. please contact me via this message board.

Regards Rosie Beal
How to search

Can anyone give me some pointers on searching? This is a bit of a long shot. All I know is that my great-great-great-grandfather Barry Caldwell (Caldwell doesn't seem very Irish to me?) was born in Ireland, his daughter was born in New York in 1822. So he was most likely born in the late 1700s and came here sometime before 1822 when she was born. His son-in-law (my great-great-grandfather) was named Adam Kennedy, but since I have no idea when his side came from Ireland, I figure there is basically no chance of tracking him.

My grandfather was Fred Boone Harbert, borne 1886 in Illinois and his family was from Ireland. Thank you for any help you can lend.

I'm trying to make a connection between Thomas Gardiner born in Preston Lancashire 1859 and his brother Singleton Gardiner born around 1863 in Richill(?) Armagh. It appears that Thomas' mother was Jane McNally. I would like to know if there were other children of Thomas Gardiner and Jane McNally and why they would move from Preston to Armagh. I am also curious about the name Singleton - any clues?
Thomas and Singleton both emigated to Queensland Australia in the early 1880s.
Thanks for any contribution.
Henderson from where in Ireland?

Does anyone recognize this Irish Henderson family?
John Henderson born Ireland 1758, died Ireland 1843. Wife (unknown).
Son John, b. Ire 12 Apr 1791, died Potsdam, New York State, 15 June 1865. His wife Catherine (unknown), b. Ire 4 Mar 1793, died Potsdam, NY, 29 June 1875.
Children of John and Catherine:
Richard b. Ire 1821.
William b. Ire 1 Feb 1822, d. 15 Feb 1871.
Henry b. Ire 28 Feb 1824, d. 20 Oct 1902 Wardsville, Ontario, Canada.
Edward b. Ire 12 Nov 1826, d. Ire 1826.
Thomas b. Ire 7 Dec 1829.
Catherine b. Ire 3 Mar 1832.
The preceding information was left in the notes of a deceased aunt.
I have confirmed that in the 1850 US Census for Potsdam, St. Lawrence County, NY, John (1791) and Catherine (1795), both born Ireland were farming in Potsdam with Richard (1824, Ire) and his wife Maryann, born New Hampshire, USA and John (1820, Ire) and his wife Mary (1822, Ire). This 1820 John was not mentioned in my aunt’s notes.
By the 1860 Census for Potsdam only John (1787 Ire) and Catherine (1792 Ire) remained farming with another Irish family, John and Jane Lowry.
By the 1870 Census for Potsdam, Richard (1821, Ire) and his wife, now with children were back, John the father was missing and assumed deceased and Catherine (1794, Ire) was still alive and living with Richard. Richard had been in Michigan State sometime between 1851 and 1862.
Henry (28 Feb 1824) claims he came to Canada in 1842 so was not in the 1850 US Census. He is my great grandfather and much is known about him except where he came from in Ireland.
In Detroit Michigan in 1850 there was a William (1826, Ire), Thomas (1829, Ire) and Catherine (1832, Ire) in a boarding house. These could be the children of John and Catherine but I can’t confirm that.
In 1840 in Potsdam there was a John Henderson with 3 other males and 4 females. If that is my family and given that Catherine was born in Ireland in 1832 then it can be assumed that the family emigrated sometime between 1832 and 1840.
Over some 15 years I have contacted many descendants of Henry and Richard and no one knows where the family originated in Ireland. Any help or advice would be appreciated.
Howard Jackman, Ontario, Canada.

My basic question is to find out where ANNA RILEY or REILLY was born.I will give you all i know about this woman.
abt 1791 born ireland, possibly CORK but thats the problem ,not sure. The family folklore is that anne came from a wealthy family.

She has supposed to have fallen in love with the family's gardener JOHN DALEY possibly b. 1779.The family frowned on this and they eloped to bristol ,somerset
.
1822 11th august they were md. at st.john baptists,bristol.

john was a gardener around clifton, bristol died 13 april 1839,bristol

anne is mentioned on the 1841,1851,1861,1871 all saying she was born in ireland. She lived at various address's around clifton and died in jun 1875 age abt 84.She had 3 children
mary ann daley b.1824
ellen daley b.1827
charlotte daley b.1830
I would also love to know the birthplace of john daley but i feel if i find one i may find the other. If its true that anne was from money than her ancestry might be easier.I can only guess that the trip from ireland to the uk was in the early 1820's
yours faithfully
mick willis
tasmania
ps. my direct ancestor is mary ann daley md. james willis 1846
Looking for Kilgrew connections

I am trying to find information on Edmund Kilgrew B:1830 (married Julia unknown B:1841). All I know is he was born in Ireland & came over to the USA before 1863 (that's when his first child Michael was born). They had 5 children (1863, 1866,1869, 1870, 1873). I have found burial stones for only one of them. The first I find anything on Edmund is in the 1880 United States Federal Census

I'm also trying to find a connection between Edmund and a Michael Kilgrew born June 1845 in Ireland (he came to USA in 1867). Michael married Mary F. Unknown born August 1841 in Ireland. They had several children, one being Michael Joseph Kilgrew (whom I have found a burial stone for in the same cemitary as John from the above group)

They both came from Ireland then settled first in South Abington, Plymouth, MA then they both moved to Whitman, Plymouth, MA . After that they split up, some stayed in Whitman, Plymouth, MA the rest moved to Rockland, Plymouth,MA.

I know it seems like a bit but I'm trying to find out the Ireland side of the family (before they came over).

Any thing would help..Thanks :o)

My G Grandfather Mathew Anderson was born in Ireland in 1859. According to census records the location was "Belford, Ireland". His parents were James (b 1814) and Rachel Savage (b 1818). They moved to the Pollockshaws area of Glasgow.
I would appreciate any help anyone can give me with the Irish connection.
Carol

Teehan Teahan Tehan

James and Bridgett Teehan (Tehan) (maiden name Burke)
Looking for descendants
These were my great great grandparents, originally from Co Kerry mid 1880s. From searches to date we know sons James, John and daughter Mary all went to Mass.and married at Amhurst, Hampshire and another son Jeremiah sailed from Ireland to New Zealand on the Edwin Fox. (perhaps with another brother). There were other children including Honora born 20 Oct 1869 in Kerry.
James aged 24 married Julia Heffernan aged 22 on 27 July 1884 - John aged 24 married Mary Shea aged 25 on 18 Sept 1881 and Mary aged 22 married Micheal Garvey aged 24 on 1 June 1884.
We are descendants of Jeremiah who married Margaret Brown and settled in Taranaki N.Z. The surname has been spelt several ways over the years but we have gone by the Teehan version. American records as above seem to be Tehan. Would love to get to know other branches of this interesting family..
