Kemmis name

The Kemmis family name started with the name De Camois, which went to De Camoys, then made many changes as the family travelled through Britain. With the main family settlements in Wales

The De Camois's went to Britain with William the Conqueror.

They were cousins to Vasco De Garma (I think that is how you spell it) who circumnavigated the world.

Kemmis is the Irish pronumciation, they went to Ireland to escape their cousin Oliver Cromwell, returning to Wales after he has died.

Kemeys is the Welsh spelling.

This is the line of Edward the Third through his mother Maude.

This is all documented through Bourkes Peerage, Exstinct and dormant,

This is my grandmothers family.

I have tried locating maps to see how these areas relate to one another. I am pretty sure that Cowpasture still exists but Pass may have become Passland and perhaps Ballagh is now Bally?

Sponsors on these records were Matt Ennis, Catherine Walsh,
Dan Quinn, Mary Carrol, Patrick Wright and Biddy Dunne

I am trying to see a migration pattern for this family who left Ireland in 1832 just before the Great Famine. Can anyone advise?

They had a daughter Ann/Annie who was born on 22 Sept 1865 in Doneany. I am trying to find the date of the marriage of Michael and Julia and where they were married. I would dearly like to obtain a copy of their marriage certificate. I estimate that they probably married somewhere between 1855 and 1863 in Monastervan, Co Kildare.

I would be more than grateful if someone could assist please.
Hi .. I´m trying to find the birthplace/family of my ggrandfather, Michael Timmons, who was born c. 1835 in either Kildare or Dublin (he says in 1901 census KILDARE, but in 1911 one DUBLIN!). He married Mary Kelly of Bagenalstown, Co. Carlow in the RC Church in Bagenalstown in 1865. His parents are listed as James or Thomas Timmons and Anne Byrne. Mary´s parents were John Kelly and Eleanor Nolan. Michael and Mary had 2 children - Annie c.1866 and Eleanor c. 1868 in Bagenalstown before moving to Dublin where they had 6 more children, including my grandmother Elizabeth, the youngest, born Ocrober 1880. Does anybody recognise this info??

My grandmother Annie Brerton was born in Robertstown? Co. Kildare on 23rd December, 1874. She moved to Falkirk, Scotland and married Michael Devoy, also born in Co. Kildare in 1908. Two of her sisters - Marcella and ? also lived in Falkirk, another sister Mary also lived in Hamilton, Scotland. I also remember her talking about a sister Polly who remained in Ireland. Any information on families in Co. Kildare would be most welcome

1600's emigrant / Ennis in Co. Kildare?

I've found information that one of my ancestors, a William Ennis, was born in County Kildare in 1613, emigrated to Virginia/Maryland (one listing suggests he came over in 1635), and died sometime between 1681 and 1684. I've also found one source, however, suggesting he came from England, not Ireland.

I am very eager to find out more about his origins, but don't know how to begin. I've searched Ancestry.com records & family trees (and the emigrant lists I can find online), and can't find him anywhere. I am hoping the Co. Kildare reference I found wasn't a mistake! I'm new to this, and would be very grateful for any help/advice, either on researching Irish emigrants for this time period generally, or if there are resources/connections I could contact for Ennis surname family research...!

Thank you in advance for any help!!

Looking for info on my grandad Francis Kelly (possibly Monoghan) born Kildare 1899

Hi, I am looking for any information about my grandad Francis Kelly born in Kildare on the 1st April 1899. He had 7 siblings some brothers some sisters his mother was called Bridgette and I think a daughter was Bridgette also. There has been some doubts as to his true name being Kelly as after a stint in prison in Manchester England when my grandma visited the warder told her he didn't have a FRancis Kelly there just a Francis Monoghan so maybe that was his true surname. We have been told he was thrown out of Ireland in around 1937/38 and he met my grandma in Coventry (Eva Parsons)and married there, they had 4 children. Any help would be gratefully received I am struggling to find any info only his death record (1969 Littleborough, Lancashire) where he is listed as Francis Kelly and it states his date of birth. He told my grandma he was Francis Kelly and was born in Kildare.
Please help me if you can
Thank You
Helen

Quaker Surnames - Province of Leinster

The province of Leinster includes the Irish counties of Kildare, Kilkenny, Carlow, Dublin, Laios/Leix (Queen's), Longford, Louth, Meath, Westmeath, Offaly (King's), Wexford and Wicklow.

The purchase of the Griese valley in south Kildare at the end of the 17th century by two Quakers, John Barcroft and Abel Strettel, and the subsequent development of the village of Ballitore as a Quaker-dominated settlement, introduced some unique surnames to this corner of southern Kildare.

A boarding school was founded in Ballitore, in 1726, by the Yorkshireman Abraham Shackleton. In the beginning, its pupils were mostly Quakers, but it later took children from other traditions.

The school lists, the Society of Friends Carlow Meeting records and the Ballitore Burial Ground inscriptions attest to the surnames once prevalent in the area: Barrington, Boakes, Chandlee, Chayter, Duckett, Fuller, Haughton, Leadbeater, Lecky, Shackleton and Pagett. Few of the surnames are to be found in the area presently.

James Judge family

On 10 February 1867 my grgrgrandfather, James Judge of Robertstown, Co. Kildare married Anne Lawler of Huerthatch (not sure of that name, it is difficult to read) at St. Patrick's Chapel, Celbridge, Co., Kildare. James, born in 1837, was the son of John Judge and Elizabeth Flannigan. Anne, born in 1844, was the daughter of Tom Lawler and Ellen Daly.

Tom Lawler's occupation is given as "boatman." I assume he worked on barges on the Grand Canal. The Judge family may also have been involved with barges on the canal because James Judge was the captain of a canalboat in 1875 in Brooklyn, New York. He later operated a number of barges in New York Harbour.

James and Anne Judge sailed for New York soon after they were married in 1867, and settled in the Brooklyn, New York, and Northern New Jersey areas. Their children were Ellen (1868), Elizabeth (1872), Annie (1874), James (1877), Thomas (1880), and Kathryn (1883). Anne Judge died in NY in 1904 and James Judge died in NY in 1913.

Any additional information on these families would be greatly appreciated.

John Daly

Re-in response to the many queries which may not have received a reply. Reason is:
In 1922 Army Personell in the Curragh Camp were with the British Forces. In that year the Camp was handed over to the Irish Defense Forces.
The British returned to England taking with them all related documents. A FEW chaps who had married Irish lassies remained in Ireland.
It's unlikely one finds any available knowledge relating to British regements. That information can probably be saught from British Army resources.
I have a note re: a letter written to my great grandmother either from or about Camp Curragh,Co. Kildare Ireland. The date March 5th 1899 and the name Thomas Byrne and the words "Boer War" are noted. The brother of my grandmother stayed behind in 1871 when the family emigrated to the USA. He was reported to have been involved in the Boer War. I have a photo of a soldier in uniform, lance corporal, dress uniform. The missing brother was named Thomas (patrick?) Byrne. His parents were John and Sarah, sisters Mary Agnes b.1861,Kathleen Rosetta (my grandmother, b.1868) brother James (b.1863) all born in Ireland, plus Josephine E. born on the high seas during the journey. Does anyone know anything about this family or the Camp .. Is it still existing and is it possible to get info re:the regiments that served out of that camp..Is there any source that might identify the uniform in the photo? thanks for any help..
Has anyone come across the surname Edgeworth in Kildare? I think my John Edgeworth may have been born in 1799. There is also a Francis Edgeworth born in 1797. I am hoping this is a brother or sister but would like to know who their parents are. My John married a Bridget Miller, i think in 1841.

Not to sound like an old celebrity for those who know him "i wanna tell you a story" some of the story may seem romantic someabout those searching for a new life and some of the story is possibly about religious differences and family deceit some i know to be true from the record searches that i have done and the rest is what has been passed down to me through the family so if any is untrue then i can only apologise now but it does make good reading.

Around 1890 my great grandmother elizabeth jane clark set off from ireland to the usa for perhaps a better life and then around 1892 my great grandfather thomas james did the same it is not clear to me wether they knew each other before this time they met in the usa and were married around 1897 and had from what i can gather around 4 children my grandad thomas james (or pop as we knew him) was born in manhattan on the 4th of january 1901 i am unsure wether any or all of his siblings survived.they were on the 1900 uscensus living at District 452, Manhattan, New York Co., New York 126 West 63rd Street and the 1910 us census living at544 West 50th Street, Line 45
but not on the 1920 us census so i presume that they moved back to ireland between 1910 and 1920.

On the 14th may 1921 pop married my gran mary (lee) in stpatricks chapel magherafelt i have been told that pop and my gran were different religions 1 being catholic and the other either protestant or presbyterian and pops family frowned upon this infact as the story goes pop was to inherit a couple of farms somwhere in the north but after he married my gran his family namely an uncle burned him out of his house and chased him from the north and pop and my gran were helped by a preist to escape the rage of his dissaproving family after this pop and gran fled to a farm on main street buncrana in donegal and pop worked on a farm as a labourer aswell as joing the irish volunteer reserves and while serving in the reserves he was involved in an accident on 31 march 1923 which put him into hospital until 8 febuary 1924 after this i lose them for a while and then they move to kilcullen county kildare where my father was born and pop lived until a ripe old age of 90 and my gran until she was 69.

if i find anymore i will add to this story and if you know anything please let me know.
Thanks to the 1911 online census I have found that my gt.grandmother, Mary O'Toole was born in Kildare and not Dublin as I thought. She married Thomas Phillips and they lived at 26 Chamber Street where they had a dairy business. She gave birth to 8 children of which only 2 survived, one of which was my grandmother, Mary (Brady) Phillips. I don't know if Mary had any siblings or family in Kildare and would be very interested in any information.

Patrick Kelly from Kildare

Hi,

Hoping someone can help as I am getting no where.

My gg grandfather Patrick Kelly, born about 1817 in Kildare Ireland, arrived Australia approx. 1836. Settled in the Dubbo area of NSW and married Ann Keenan (Kiernan?) 16 May 1848 in Kings Plains. Patrick died on 5 April 1885 in Ewenmar, Dubbo, NSW at the age of 68. They had a son, Daniel Kelly (my great grandfather). I believe they had 12-14 children but I know only of Daniel, who married Rosina Martha Hall.

Is anyone out there related, or know of any Irish sites to try to get baptism records from around 1817. I know that they were Catholic. I am assuming that Patrick came to NSW as a convict, but have no proof (there are quite a few Patrick Kellys!).

Thanks!

My grandmother was raised in a boarding school in Dublin after that, then eventually, most of the children moved to Southern England (Surrey & Dorset I believe).

If anyone has any information on my family, it would be wonderful! I know they lived on a farm. Thanks!

He fell in love and married my great grandmother, whos name i do not know, on religious grounds he was threated with being cut off from his family if he married her. He did marry her and they lived in Rye Sussex.

I'm almost certain it was her second mariage too.

If anybody has any information I'd be very very happy to recieve it.

So far all my ancestors have been from the same area so this is the first time I've had to look elsewhere - could anyone please point me in the right direction to start looking up Irish records? They were born circa 1830 and by 1851 were in Manchester, where his occupation was listed as Staff Sargeant in the Militia. Thanks very much.

This address would be back in 1813.
On a passenger list of Hilda Crapper travelling across the border from Canada to States (vising sister) is a name listed above of Henry? fields/murphy. listed is his father (james)adress in Ireland with the above address. A few months later we know Hilda married George Murphy. (he was born in states and his father was Thomas who emmigrated there.
It seems a bit of a coincidence that a field/murphy is the line above.
Carol

I am trying to locate info about my Grandfather's family. They came to the US in 1883-1886. After they arrived in the US they settled in Mass. area. I have info concerning my GGrandparents wedding, it was recorded in Co. Kildare, the parish is Castledermot. Also, my Grandfather and his sister are recorded in the parish Castledermot. My GGrandparents names were Patrick Supple and Sarah Donahue Supple, my Grandfather's name was Michael Joseph Supple and his sister's name was Mary Supple. I believe that my GGrandfather's parents names were John & Mary Supple. My GGrandmother's parents names were Michael & Sarah Donahue, I am not sure if they were from the same area or not.
Please, if anyone has info on this Supple family, would you please contact me. I very much want to contact our family in Ireland!.........
Thank you in advance, Kay
