Leinster Families being tied together/ genetic genealogy of several families match

Any Kinsellas, Murphys, Cavanaghs, McEvoys or other Leinster people out there interested in DNA research?

We think we've identified a DNA cluster in Leinster linked to the ancient chieftains of the Lagin in Ireland. So far it appears in O'Byrnes and Cavanaghs, two of the leading chieftains of Leinster (plus possibly a couple of O'Tooles).

We've been calling the DNA signature the Leinster modal. It can be found on Ysearch, the public DNA database maintained by FamilyTree DNA (B9NW4). This modal was developed by the head of the Byrne DNA project at FTDNA. We would be very interested in seeing if other Leinster families also matched the DNA.

You can read about it here.

http://members.aol.com/Lochlan4/leinster.htm

Some common Leinster surnames include O'Byrne, Kinsella, Cavanagh, Murphy, O'Toole, McEvoy, Dowling, Whelan or Phelen, O Dea, O Dee, O'Connor Faly, O Dempsey, MacColgan,
O'Houlihan & O'Hennessy, O'Dunn, O Dooley, O Farrell,
MacCrohan, O'Ryan, O'Gleeson, O'Donegan,
O Mulligan or O Milliken. There are probably many more than this but these are named in pedigree collections or the Topographical Poems.

If you've already have a DNA test and your family is from Leinster we'd like to hear from you.

The basic 12 marker DNA modal is:

13-24-14-11-11-14-12-12-14-13-30

In the Trinity database, better known for it's Nial study, the DNA is found almost exclusively in the south of Ireland, heaviest in Leinster but present in significant amounts in Munster. It's strongest concentration is in surnames from Leinster, reaching levels of 61% in Byrnes from Leinster. These levels are typical of the Trinity DNA study, which found most Irish surnames show evidence of multiple founders or male introgression.

There are also matches to the DNA in the lowlands of Scotland (a large group of Beattys) and in England. If O'Rahilly (Early Irish History and Mythology) is correct the Lagin DNA originated in SW England and came to Ireland in the centuries prior to the Roman invasion of the British Isles.

This DNA study is in its infancy. We need more DNA samples from Leinster surnames that match the O'Byrnes and Cavanaghs. If interested you can respond to me off list at Lochlan@aol.com.

John Mclaughlin

PATRICK SMULLEN and ANNIE GREEN

I am looking for information on my Great Grandparents ...
Patrick SMULLEN and Annie GREEN....

I am guessing that they were born around 1865/1875, as my Grannie was born in 1895.

I have been told by my Aunt, that her Grandparents, my Great Grandparents, Patrick & Annie SMULLEN used to live in Rutland Street in Dublin.... ( The same street that "Matt Talbott" used to live in.)
I believe this street is now known as "Sean O'Casey avenue" which is just south of the Royal Canal on the North side of Dublin.

My Great Grandfather may have worked as a Compositor on a newspaper in Dublin, as that was what he did when he moved the family to County Leitrim.

Does any of this fit in with anyones Family line. Did my Great Grandparents have any brothers and sisters, if so are there any relatives out there in Dublin ? ? ?
My primary names are Seaver, Dollard & Locke from the Lusk, Skerries and Ballyboughal areas. The time frame is approximately 1770 to 1860. I have been on the Dublin board for a while, and have only just thought of this one, so if anyone is connected to any of the above families, PLEASE contact me! Thanks.

I would like to do research on George Shipley and Elizabeth Bayley or Bailey. George was born around 1800 and Elizabeth around 1804 and were married in 1824 Diocese of Ossory, Leinster Province, Ireland. Both their births are recorded there also. How do I go about finding this information and then finding their children? They had eight children and George died when they were small. Any help pointing me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Donna

My great grandmother, Elizabeth J. Carey Dyer, listed her birth information as Nov. 4, 1852 at Birr, Leinster Co., Ireland. I am told that she came to the U.S. with a brother, but I do not know his name. She married Manuel John E. Dyer on June 22, 1875 at St. Mary's Church, Fall River, MA by Father Reilly. The marriage information listed her parents as Daniel and Jane (nee?) Carey.

Please contact me if you have any information about the Careys who remained in Ireland, or Elizabeth's brother who came to the U.S. with her. Thank you.

I was tracing the family line of my brother-in-law, a Denis Heery, born in Liverpool, England. His great-great-grandfather appears on the 1861 English census for Liverpool with a birh place of Kilskipe, Ireland. His wife, and 4 children also have the same birthplace specified.
1861 England Census Record about Mathew Heery
Name: Mathew Heery
Age: 55
Estimated birth year: abt 1806
Relation: Father-in-law
Gender: Male
Where born: Kilskipe, Ireland
I can't find any placename, parish, or barony with this name. It might possible be a "homestead" name. Has anyone hear of it? I suspect it to be somewhere in the Leinster counties since most Heery's came from there in that time frame.
Thanks.

Almost all Judges in Newfoundland over past 200 years are related. If you know of just ONE man(or family) named Judge(or Breheny, same thing in Gaelic) who moved to Newfoundland before 1837,it is about 98% likely you just found my ancestor. It could even be late 1700s,just that I can find records in 1837. Maybe my Judge ancestor sailed out of Sligo(don't know),just that about 85% of Irish migrants to Nfld. at that time sailed out of Waterford. There is always of course the possibility my Judge may have migrated elsewhere(England, Quebec,Boston.Bermuda ??) before settling in Nfld.Thanks.Ward. wardgreene@hotmail.com

Dooley /McIntyre - Help wanted

Hi,
I know it's a long shot, but I am carrying out research for a friend, into the Dooley family from Ireland. The only information I have is that they were William Dooley and Margaret McIntyre (parents) I am not sure if the parents ever married.

Children:
Margaret (born Ireland 4th July 1884) died 9th February 1928 Montréal Canada. Mary born 22nd October 1886 She died on November 4th 1978 Montreal Quebec. & William (Jr)circa 1898/9. I think he died in Liverpool aged 2

Sometime before 1893,the children were placed into the care of the Liverpool Catholic Children Protection Society and then sent to Canada, where they were put up for adoption. I have found a possible record of death for a Margaret McIntyre -McIntyre Margaret 32 Liverpool Sep qtr 8b 100 - .This is the only one registered in Liverpool.

Any help would be appreciated, such as birth record s of children especially. Unfortunately, I have no idea whereabouts in Ireland they came from. Mary's birth certificate was lost by her adoptive family in Canada

Thanking you in anticipation
Frank
Crumbliss/Pleasants family link

I'm looking for information about Hugh Crumbliss (b. 1716 in Leinster Province) who married Elizabeth Pleasants (b. 1720 in Leinster Province) in 1766 in the Diocese of Ossory. I'm trying to link Hugh to my ancestor Thomas Crumbliss (b. Bef. 1761 in Ireland and married Elizabeth Estes in the USA), Revolutionary soldier buried in Roane County, Tennessee. Children were James (who was also possibly born in Ireland and came over to the Virginia/Carolina area with his father in 1761), Anne, and Hugh Carroll.

I am looking for information on My GGGrandparents and their family in Ireland. George Ormsby married Elizabeth Bolton on 5 March 1949 in Ireland..I have no county listed for the marriage. George and Elizabeth had at least 3 children, probably more. My GGrandfather, George William Ormsby was born 21 Dec 1858, he married in Ireland to a woman whose first name was Mary Jane, last name unknown..maybe Sutton. They emigrated to the U>S> in September of 1882, settling in Cook County, Illinois. Mary Jane gave birth 2 month later and she died. George sent back to County Wexford for her cousin, Phoebe Sutton to come to the U>S>, she did, they married in Cook County in April 1884. Phoebe is my GGRandmother. Phoebe Sutton, born 28 Aug 1855 at Garantrowlan, County Wexford. Phoebe mothered George and Mary Janes's son, William, she also gave birth to 4 children of her own before her death in Aug 1890 in Fort Howard, Brown County, Wisconsin. I am also looking for information on George William Ormsby's sister, Emily Ormsby, born 27 May 1869 in County Wexford. She stayed in Ireland. Can anyone help me with these names, do they sound familar to anyone. I thank you for reading this missive. Dianna Gray

Henry Whitestone Family

I am interested in locating information on the Henry Whitestone Family of Dublin. Henry supposedly married a woman named only as Miss Wade of Fairfield, Aughrim, County Galway. No first name known so far.Henry supposedly was running for the mayor's office in Dublin just before he died.Henry and his wife had 4 children that are known. Mrs. McGrath of Castlereach and Mrs. Groome of Sycamore Hill. Both located in County Galway, There was a son named Luke Whitestone who was a surgeon at the Lying-in-Hospital in Dublin.According to an 1850 city directory there may have been several other brothers. The last child was Margaret Ann who married my GGG Grandfather William North of Northbrook, Aughrim,County Galway. There seem to be 2 stories about Margaret . One says she died after her first son was born.About 1810 ? One of William's sons,George who was born in 1820 clearly states his mother as Margaret Ann. If anyone could provide any info on this family and also provide some dates if possible for a time line , it would be greatly appreciated.
Wolfe / North Connection

Does anyone know anything about this Wolfe / North Family connection...... William North , born About 1705 Kilbride Castle,County Westmeath,Ireland. William supposedly married a woman named Miss Wolfe {First Name Unknown}.She too was born at Kilbride about 1709. William and Miss Wolfe were married about 1729. They had 3 sons : Roger 1730 , John 1732 and Joseph 1734 - 1793 : Garrinahane/Northbrook. What I am specifcally interested to know is ,does anyone have a record of who she was? I would also be interested in any info in regard to other children they might have had. If anyone can help I would appreciate it. ............
I am hoping someone can helkp me. My paternal grandmother was madeleine Gaughran born in abt. 1891. I was told that she came from Drogheda but could be Dundalk. Her father was Thomas Gaughran and her mother Elizabeth Gaughran (Munroe I believe). Madeleine had a sister Katie who married someone by the last name Jones in England and a brother named Cyril. Cyril was lost at sea in 1940 when the HMS Penzance was sunk. Cyril had a son Michael who is a Marion Priest living in England. I have an old photograph of Madeleine with two young women who apparently were cousins that ran a music school. if anyone knows anything I would love to hear from you. Thanks

Dianne Bray

James Godfrey sailed from Ireland, maybe Waven Pt. or it might be Raven Pt., to America in 1851, according to a note, written by my grandmother, Edith Alberta Godfrey, in his bible. He sailed with his wife, possibly named Alberta, and their baby son, also named James. The baby James was raised in Everett, Massachusetts, and later married Ada Jane Edgecomb. They were my great-grandparents. I am trying to find out any information about James, the father, his wife, and where they were from.
