I am trying to find who are the parents of Michael MUIR b.1788, Kilmarnock who married Janet MONTGOMERY or MONTGOMERIE of Riccaraton, 1814 in Riccarton. They emigrated to America in 1857.
I don't know which is the correct spelling of Janet's last name or if Janet is her proper name either.

I have done some work into this Muir family.

David Muir married into my Kelly family from Riccarton.

I have information on Michael Muir who I believe was the brother of the above David.

I am in contact with Bessie also just now re this family.

The marriage -18 Feb 1814 Michael Muir & Janet Montgomerie in Riccarton but don't see any Michael Muir born in 1788 in Kilmarnock. Might be worth checking out the other towns

Regarding Michael Muir who married Janet Montgomerie.

Michael was born in Kilmarnock according to the census of 1851 and Janet Montgomerie was from Riccarton.

I suspect he is the son of Michael Muir b 1760 and Agnes Rankin. m 1781 Kilmarnock

I found 4 children to them Jean 1784, Male 1784 - 1786
David 1788, Agnes 1790 no Michael however.

I will have to have another look for the male child I missed.

Michael Muir the elder had a brother Dalrymple who also married the Rankins. (Eliz)
There are no children coming up on the family search programme or the IGI.
However Dalrymple I certain did have children.
I think it likely his son was John Muir in Kilwinning m Elizabeth Miller. - Their eldest child Dalrymple was born in 1820 Kilmaurs.
This can be proved as John is still alive in 1861.
There are also other Dalrymple and Michael Muir who I have looked into.
Dalrymple Muir was stll alive in Kilmarnock in 1841 with a Margaret Muir probably his daughter.

I think it likely Michael Muir birth c 1788 -1794 was not registered. Age 58 in 1851.

Gravestone in America suggests born 1788 -1789
Died in 1873 in his 85th year

The Muir were COALMINERS.

Thank you for suggesting to go to your site.
I was able to after a terrible time trying to be able to use it. It kepted stating I didn't have Java(which I do have & it is the latest version), Was able to access finally by using Firefox.

I didn't find the birth of Michael Muir of 1788 on your site just as you thought.
But I do have the pictures of Michael's tombstone which clearly states "Died Sept 4 1873, at the 85th age of his year" (8 letter word I can't read)......of Riccarton )??)
Ayrshire, Scotland".
Plus there is no stone of Janet (his wife) next to him.

What I did find on your site which I am confused over......
