Hi Barbara
My name is Paul Hickford and I live in Auckland, New Zealand. Since beginning my research some 15 years ago I have made several unsuccessful attempts to trace the lineage of my John McGINNES. He was born in Edinburgh, Scotland about 10 December 1815. His father was Terence McGINNES. Nineteen years later John was transported to Hobart, Tasmania, Australia. After serving his time John went on to become a policeman and later in life a court bailiff. His daughter - Isabella Kate - married my maternal grandfather John Alfred BARKER and they came to live in New Zealand.
I suspect that the McGINNES were originally from Ireland with my line settling in Ayrshire before relocating to Edinburgh. I note your original entry was posted in 1998 and am wondering if you've since been able to trace your McGINNES ancestral trail further back(?).
Regards
Paul
