Would anyone happen to know the meaning of Giakoumis in Greek. They originated from the island of Chios.

Thanks.

Great Question, as far as I have been able to un cover it does not have a meaning the way Butcher, Butler, Peterson etc does, but it is also known to be a first name without the s at the end, theres at least one Greek movie using the name as a title and at least one cargo ship out there with that name. It is very popular in Chios, most of them are related, I do have a few more tidbits to exchange with anyone willing to add to what I've posted. Thanx PG

Thanks for the info. I know the Giakoumis clan is from Chios, especially my friend whose original name was Giakoumis but now goes by Gakoumis. His grandfather was from Chios and changed his name when he got here, why I don't know. That would be nice to know that all the Giakoumis' are related from that island.

What other tidbits do you have?
