I am looking for any information on the Kalafates the only names I have are as follows
Mike Kalafates
apostolis Kalafates
Eliass Falafates
Athena (kalafates) Petrakis
Lemonia(kalafates)Kozamis
These people were living in Icaria or abouts in 1970 and we brothers and sister of my grandfather
Also he had a daughter that lived in Athens
her name was Vaso or Basco Nicolou
any help would be great
I also had a uncle who lived in Wheeling west Virgina

he was my grandfathers other brother and the only one to come to the us with him

I also am looking for information about the Kalafatis (Kalafates) family. I read your post the other night and checked a few names with my uncle before I replied. My grandfather (Dimetrios Andreas Kalafatis..spelling?) came to the U.S. in the 1930's from Icaria and changed his last name to Kalas. I know he had cousins in the Steubenville/Wheeling area. We are 50 miles away in Cambridge, OH. He had a cousin Mike Kalafatis (?) from the Wheeling area that co-owned a restaraunt with him in Mansfield. I don't know much about that side of my family other than my great grandparents were Dimetrios and Creesa (Tsamous) Kalafates from Akamatria (again spelling?) Icaria. His brother was Harry and he had 2 sisters, Agirio and Mouskoula. I am currently trying to contact other cousins to find more information. Maybe we can help each other. :). Good luck.

my grandfather changed his name to kallis after my aunt was born i know that one of his cousin worked in the food industrey that woulld have been Gus Kalafates and my great uncle george Kalafates work in the stell mills in wheeling.
I live on the other side of zanesville not far from you maybe we could get together and compare notes

LOL..You might be right about us being cousins. My uncle seems to think if we went to Icaria we couldn't throw a rock without hitting a cousin. Both sides of my mothers family are from there, Pavlos/Raptis and Kalafates. My papou died in the 1940's and the family didn't have much contact with the Kalafates side after that. I've tried calling another cousin about the names you gave and I'm just waiting to hear back. I do have quite a bit of family in Zanesville, but it's the other side. You may know them?

My mother was born in Turkey but her family had to leave in 1922. My mother's maiden name is Vellis but her Gt Uncle was Metropolitan Chrysostomos Kalafates who was killed by the Turks when he let the Greeks shelter in his Church. There is a lot of information about him on the Internet. Other family names are Thanou. My grandfather originated from Siphnos. Hope this helps and look forward to hearing from you if you find any connection.

I am looking for more info about the Metropolitan Kalafates. He is my YaYa's 1st cousin. Her maiden name is Dentiste. I found alot about his deatha and the persecution but little on his life.

My first name is Kosmia. I am from Thesoliniki. My maiden name is Efremidou my grandfather is apostolis Kalafates. He married my grandmother Alexandra. My grandfather died when I was little. I'm not sure if there is a conection but my mother's name is Kathy. My aunts were Theopisti, not sure of spellings, the other was Thespina - both are in Athens. I had two Uncles forgot the names, one died not sure when, one is in Greece. My mom Kathy married Kostas Efremidou from Thesoliniki. My mother remarried and moved to the United States in 1975. My Mom was born in Volos or Cryte. Thats where my grandmother and grandfather got married. If you have any info let me know. Thank you
