Looking to connect with anyone doing research on the Sayers family of Picton. Seeking info on James Sayers who emigrated from Ireland in the mid to late 1800s. The mailing address that he was using in 1892-93 timeframe was c/o A. W. Hepburn, Esq., Picton, P.O., Prince Edward County, Ontario, Canada. He had a brother, William (my great grandfather), who emigrated to Philadelphia, PA around the same time. Their parents, John and Martha, remained in Ireland (Letterkenny, County Donegal) with their siblings, Fannie, Matilda, Cassie and John.

William married Carrie Caroline Peak in Philadelphia and they had four children - Edward D., Fannie, Florence Mary (my grandmother), and John W. William died in the early 1890s in Philadelphia - I don't know exactly when, or where he is buried, althought I continue to search. His widow, Carrie, lived through two additional marriages and died in 1959 in Philadelphia, where she is buried.

Does this dovetail with any research that anyone else might be doing.

Thank you,

Tedd

Tedd,
I'm not researching this family but there are two possibilities on the 1901 census for Prince Edward Co. If you know an approx. b.d. you might be able to narrow it down.

Bette -

Thank you. At least, now I have a place to start. The second listing looks inviting because that James lists a daughter Matilda - might be named after James' sister Matilda that I show in my data.

Regards,

Tedd

We may have spoken before although I can't recall.
I am the grandson of George Sayers who married Emma Jane Sheets and lived is Milles Roche Ontario.
From what I have his siblings are Robert, Sarah, Edward, matilda, John, George, William. I beleive his parents are James Sayers and Annie Dunlop from Ireland

Does any of this fit with your information?

Thanks
Scott

Good evening, Scott -

My great grandfather, William D. Sayers, emigrated to the U.S. (Philadelphia) from County Donegal, Ireland sometime in the late 1800s. Letters that I have to him and his wife, Caroline (Carrie) from his family in Ireland in the 1890s reveal that he had a brother that lived in Picton at that time. His other siblings, Fannie, Matilda, Cassie, John, Luke and Thomas were still in Ireland, along with their parents, John & Martha (Campbell) Sayers.

Our possible connection could be through your great grandfather, James Sayers, who could be my William D Sayers' brother. However, I do believe that there were two James Sayers living in the Picton area in the 1890s. I have not been able to confirm that either of them are the brother of my great grandfather.

Please feel free to contact me directly at teecee62@comcast.net

Tedd
