Parr, Jones, Moore

I would like to find out more information about Joseph Parr, Harriet Parr Jones and Daniel Miller Parr. I may be related to them.

I have located records revealing that Joseph Parr lived in Hillier Township, Prince Edward County from at least 1823 to 1846. His wife's name was Ruth. Joseph was naturalised in 1830 suggesting that he had migrated to Upper Canada from the United Sates. From 1830 to 1846 Ruth and Joseph Parr owned land in Hillier Township. Harriet Parr is a witness for one of the land transactions and Daniel Parr for another. This suggests that they were related to Joseph Parr, possibly being his children. At this stage this is all the information I have about Joseph Parr.

Harriet Parr was born about 1812 somewhere in the United States, possibly Otsego County, New York. She married James Bell Jones of Hillier Township, Prince Edward County about 1830 and had 13 children in the following birth order: Elizabeth, Mary Ann, Sarah Emeline, Robert S, George, Amos Greer, Margaret Jane, Phoebe Ann, Francis Henry, Nancy, Harriet, James Harper and Samuel John. Harriet died in 1879 and is buried in the Christ Church Anglican church cemetery in Hillier township.

Daniel Miller Parr was born in Upper Canada in 1824. On 15 April 1845 Daniel married Chloe Ann, the oldest daughter of Jotham and Chloe Raynor of Hillier township. They had six children in the following birth order: Chloe Ann, Jotham, Washington, Elgin, Sarah, and John. Chloe Ann Parr married John Moore from England and they had three children: George Albert, Helen Gertrude and Fred Daniel. John and Chloe Moore farmed in Hillier township. Daniel and Chloe Parr owned land in Hillier township from 1857 to 1867. The 1861 census lists Daniel as a fisherman. Daniel and Chloe do not appear in the 1871 census for Hillier township.

I hope some one is able to link into these families and supply me with more information about them. I think Joseph Parr may be the father of my great, great grandfather, Amos Parr, who was born in Otsego County in 1807 and by the mid-1830s he was living in Upper Canada.

I did not have the information on Joseph Parr and Mary Jane Gerow. This Joseph Parr may be younger than the one I am tracking and his wife has a different name. However, there may well be a connection given the proximity of Hillier and Hallowell.

Lydia Parr did a pension application as a widow. The file is in the Picton Archives. I do not have a date. Two children are named: John and Frances.

An obituary for Lydia Parr was publishedin the Bellville newspaper. I have not accessed it and I cannot locate my reference to it at the moment.

From the White Scrapbook, which I think is held at the Picton Archives, there are two newspaper articles referring to Joseph Parr of Bloomfield. Both articles mention him playing the violin at social functions. They contain no further information about him. The articles appear about 1906.

The 1891 census for Sophiasburgh Township lists, the folowing Parr family:

Joseph, age 37, born US, Methodist, farm labourer.
Lydia, age 37, born Ontario, Methodist.
Frances, age 16 born, Ontario.
Johnie, age 8,born Ontario
Mary, age 6, born Ontario

I hope to find out more about these Parrs.

I don't know if you're still looking for Parr's, but the information you posted sounds like the Parr's in our family. Joseph H. Parr and Lydia McGuire Parr are the parents of my great grandfather, John Erastus Parr who was b. 25 SEP 1884 in Grand Rapids, Kent Co., MI and d. 20 FEB 1979 in Rock Island, Rock Island Co., IL. John married Mable May Warren on 14 NOV 1903 in Davenport, Scott Co., IA, although they lived most of their lives in Rock Island, IL. On John's marriage certificate, John's father is listed as Joseph H. Parr and mother's maiden name is Lydia McGuire; Mable's father is Alonzo or Alonza Warren and mother's maiden name is Laura Evans. John and Mable had 4 children, John William, Myrtle M., Harry R. and Leroy E. Parr - all are deceased. Attached is pic of John & Mable Parr.

According to my aunt, John E. Parr had two sisters - Mary Jane and Frances and one or both lived in Belleville, Ontario, Canada - she said the sisters either remained in, or moved back to Canada from MI, but doesn't know their married names. My grandparents, John William and Nellie Parr, visited Canada on occasion and I have pictures of my mother and aunt on one of the trips.

Glad the info was helpful. After checking my notes, there is this additional info: John Erastus Parr also had a cousin Harry in Belleville, as well as an aunt Loretta Kerr and a cousin Charles who lived in Rock Island, IL. My aunt doesn't know anymore about them, but she also said the Parr's settled in Canada from England.
Do you have a photo of Frances' and John's grave marker? I have grave stone photos of John Erastus & Mable Parr, and John William & Nellie Parr that I will have to scan later. They're either at Chippianock Cemetery or Memorial Park Cemetery, both cemeteries are in Rock Island, IL. Most of this Parr family, who lived in Rock Island, are buried in either of these two cemeteries.
