Green/Marquez in Ensenada

I am wondering if anyone has any information about Fidel Green and Maura Marquez who were listed as the parents of Marcial Green who passed away in Ensenada (4 Aug 1887) at the age of one.
According to "Guia Familiar de Baja California", by Pablo Martinez, Fidel & Maura were married in San Jose Del Cabo (20 May 1881). Fidel Green(b.23 Nov. 1856) was the son of Yldefonso Green and Dominga Castro also of San Jose del Cabo. He was also the grandson of Esteban Green/Grin-an English(or Irish) whaler who landed on Cabo San Lucas in 1834. However, Maura was born in Todos Santos.

I am hoping that I may be able to link this family to my g-grandmother, Cantalicia Green. She also was from San Jose del Cabo(b.14 Feb. 1866). Sadly, she also had a child, Fernando Fierro, who died in Ensenada(27 Mar 1897). Fernando was a child from her second marriage to Leocadio Fierro. Minnie and Rudolfo were other surviving children from this marriage. Cantalicia's first husband was Jose Castillo. Children from this marriage are: Jose, Maria, Louisa, Contansia, Jenny and Lucrecia. Lucrecia, my grandmother, was born 11 Dec 1888, in La Paz. This family was to eventually settle in San Diego...around 1906.
If any of these names ring a bell maybe we can exchange further information.

Thank You
Sue Ellen

I know this is an old posting, but I just started my family's search. My Great GM's name is Maura Marquez who was married to Fidel Green. She was born in Ensenada in 1889 and according to her death certificate she had lived the San Diego are approx. 32 years and the Imperial/San Diego County area for approx. 50 years. My Nana passed away quite some time ago, but I have sent a letter to my Aunt Irene to see if any of the names you had mentioned a different posting sound familiar. I have also asked my dad. I do remember that I had seen a picture of my great great grandfather and he had red hair and blue eyes. My parents have always told us our ancestors were English or Scottish (could be Irish) I'll keep you posted.

Thank you for your response. Very interesting - similarities.... ie.the surnames Green & Marquez, Ensenada and San Diego. You are lucky to have relatives that are able to help you in this new quest of researching your family's history. I lost my father (who was born in Ensenada, also, in 1908) in 1995. He had told me that his grandmother, who had blonde hair and blue eyes, was named Cantalicia Green. It took me 3 years to find out the names of her parents. He said she had a twin sister (whose name, unfortunately, I still don't know) and that this sister was related, by marriage, to the actor Anthony Quinn. I'm wondering if any of this info could ring a bell to your Aunt Irene. Anyway, I'm glad we connected and I'll be happy to share any further information about this very interesting Green/Marquez line that I'm able to gather. I was delighted to find out that you had seen a picture of your G.G.grandfather and if you ever should come across it again I'd be very appreciative if you could scan it over via the computer to me.

Just an after- thought to my last message. I don't know if you have been able to find out any information about the patriarch of the Green line in Baja California. His name was Steven (Esteban) Green (b. 1800 in London, Eng.) He was a whaler, by occupation, and this is probably why he was literally "washed" ashore in Cabo San Lucas and married Maria De Jesus Cesena a year later (1835). Should you need further information ...the names of their children, etc. I'll be happy to share what I have.

Suzie,
Thank you for your reply, I am still waiting to hear from my Aunt Irene-but I will keep you posted. Also, the bit about Anthony Quinn does sound vaguely familiar so I will check with my father and get back to you. Being washed ashore would certainly explain why my Nana as well as myself have such light skin. Thank you again, and I will keep in touch.

The book was published in 1965 and it is out of print. The publishing company doesn't exist any more. The Guia is available (for reference use only) at the San Francisco and San Jose Public Library (central).

Debbie, I am a native of Ensenada, although currently living in central Mexico. I have a friend in Ensenada who also is a Fidel and Maura's great granddaughter and related to Irene Green and Tony Canaris.
I told her about your query on this genealogy board and she will be happy knowing about you and sharing info on the Green family. Her name is Maria Esther Herrera (nee Barcena) and could be contacted through her son's mail bajapeninsula@hotmail.com Hope this could help.
