Looking for any information on Joseph Edward LOPEZ born 24 August 1841 in Campeche, Mexico. He died 18 January 1910 in Tampa, Hillsborough Co., FL, U.S.A. Any information on his parents and/or siblings will be aprreciated. Will share information.

More information. Joseph LOPEZ was a seaman & owned some ships or boats. It seems there was some kind of problem in Mexico & he had to flee for his life. He entered the U.S.A. in 1875 & by the 1900 census he was naturalized. Any info on anything about this will be appreciated.

The family story is that the parents of Joseph Edward LOPEZ were born somewhere in Castille, although I have heard nothing about where in Castille or their names or whether there were any siblings. I have no idea why he came to America. My understanding is that he married in 1875 and became a citizen in 1895, but I do not have copies of the marriage certificate or naturalization papers.

In the census, Joseph Edward LOPEZ lists his place of birth as Mexico, His father's place of birth as Spain, & his mother's place of birth as Mexico. I have a copy of the citizen paper, dated 15th July 1895, stating "......late of Campeche Mexico in the Republic of Mexico at present of Tampa......". I also have a copy, from the microfilm of the Tampa Tribune, of the write up when he died stating that he was a native of Campeche, Mexico. I live in Brandon and work by the airport. I would love to share info, but that is easy for me to say, since I do not have much. I only recently learned that Campeche had been Lopez's birthplace, which is how I stumbled across the board. I am hoping to go by USF or John Germany to see if they have info on Campeche history of the time.

He probably fled during Guerra de Castas 1847 -48 it was the same time my Great Grandfather appeared in Belize. We have no family history since then. No idea about his family or how he arrived from Spain
