Well, I'm not V. Dorame, but I did find among my notes some things that may be useful to you. The dates are not in agreement with your husband's grandfather being born c.1880, but I will leave that for you to figure out. The names are right, and it sounds like his family.

Baptism: #71. 22 Sept. 1875. Susana Bernardina, hija lejitima de Refugio Robles y Maria Santos Dias. Godparents: D. ___? Gandara y Da. Maria del Carmen Gandara. LDS film 683046

Baptism # 822. ? Julio 1877. Aurelia Beatriz, hija lejitima de Refugio Robles y Maria Santos Dias. Godparents were Francisco Villa y Guadalupe Galves. LDS film 683046.

There are other records which are of more speculative connection. I have to get them together, and I will send them to your personal e-mail.

On the subject of Dorame, I did find some notes on very early Ures marriages taken from an LDS film (#719840) There are some records dating back to 1659. I had noted "just before Nov.1666, Maria Moriguitta, hija leg. de Joseph Dorame y de Co____? Guzane, difunta." was marrying someone. It was in very bad condition and I copied what I could. Occasional Dorames turn up in later Ures records. You asked if the Ures records were in poor condition. I would say, yes. They are out of order, there are misspellings - beyond what is usually found - and terrible handwriting. A few priests made nice records, but most seem to have handed the job of entering names over to an assistant. Nevertheless, we are fortunate that anthing has survived at all. I would not spend travel time trying to search through them when it can be done close to home at the Family History Centers

You are so right. After I shouted out for a date and my husband's reply and sent it I thought no, no, that would be his grandfather, not great-grandfather who is Juan Robles. He was a peer to my grandparents on my paternal line.Rodriguez de Los Altos De Jalisco(Teocaltiche).
This is so exciting! Thank you so much. This will thrill my husband. He is out with one of the grandchildren.
I will get him to go to the LDS Center and order the film. He had gotten tired of searching, or more accurately, it has been overwheming and timeconsuming trying to trace all the lines. Just this morning his sister was over scanning old photos from the mother's side of the family. Lopez de Leonn,Guanajuanto. We have a Coz website. I will have him contact you. Is there any links to his and your Oak Tree?

My name is Dorame however my father removed the letter E from the name and shorten it to Doram of which my family used the name Doram. I have no inkling why he did this unless he couldn't write his name as I renenber that he never went to school and could not read. I am interested in earching the Dorame line too. My friend or even perhaps relative named Robert Dorame and I have been trying to dig further in our names .Enough for now .

Have you tried going as far back as checking the French archives? It is possible that the surnames were taken during French occupation? It would be interesting to know when the Dorames crossed over to change the Mexican landscape and Indian influences.

The name Dorame was in Sonora long before the French. I was told by David Challe, archivist of the Tohono O'dham, that it is of Eudeve origin.
It is derived from the word Yoreme, meaning 'an indian man'. Since the early Jesuits may have given such a name to various young men or children that they baptized, there would not necessarily be a relationship between them. Later, when surnames were well established, the name was passed on from father to children and within each such lineage it would imply relationship.
