Surname Green in Mexico? (1868)

In my search for the parentage of my great grandmother, Cantalicia (b.Feb.6,1868 Mex.), I have discovered that the surname of her father was the very un-hispancic "Green." This probably explains the fact that she was blonde, blue- eyed and said to be part french. The surname of Cantalicia's mother was Marquez.

Cantalicia married (1) Jose de CASTILLO and on Dec. 11, 1888 gave birth to my grandmother, Lucrecia in La Paz, Baja California Sur. Lucrecia's siblings were: Louisa, Maria, Jose, Constance and Jenny. Cantalicia married again to (2) Leocadio FIERRO and had two more children....Minnie and Rudolfo.

Eventually, the family migrated from La Paz to Ensenada(bef. 1906) and later to San Diego, Ca.

I would really appreciate any info or suggestions anyone could give me to help fill in some gaps concerning the origins and identities of Cantalicia's parents.

Thank You

Grandmother

Hi, I am not sure if this will help, I am also looking for family and actually found some family members I never knew I had. Any way I happen to talk to my mother and some of the information she gave about her side of the family. In the hills called Colonia De Liberta in Tijauna Baja Cal. Which is by the horse race track Called Caliente. They had a neighbor by the name of Green. This family was there for many years to my mothers knowledge.
I hope this helps you. I was on line for 3 months before my cousin found me. Be patient, Everyones name started some where and you will get there.
Good luck
Lynda

Hello:

I have also been doing research on my family tree from Baja California. Just in case you have not been informed the book entitled "Guia Familia de Baja California" by Pablo Martinez has information on the Green family and other/European/American immigrants into Baja California, it is quite an interesting book. You can find it at the San Diego downtown library. I know it is out of print now and hard to find if you want to buy it. On another note, I have been trying to locate information my paternal grandfather's sister her name was Aurora (Dora) Fisher, born in Baja California Mexico who married Ernesto Castro Green. If you have any information to share it would be greatly appreciated. You can also reach me at Iandrecc@aol.com

Irene

Actually, I made it down to the San Diego Library this last week and finally understood why everyone involved with genealogy research on Baja California raves about the book, "Guia Familiar De Baja California 1700-1900," by Pablo Marquez. The information I gathered was certainly more that worth the two-hour drive from Los Angeles. Although I wasn't able to learn the complete identities of the parents of Cantalicia Green(my primary goal), I did get some clues that could help me not only with my Green family but the families of Marquez and Castillo as well. Check out my latest posting in the Baja California Sur Forum for more details. You'll find some Castro "links" but unfortunately not the one you specified. Thanks again for your suggestions and good luck in your searches.

Hi! This is the first time I have seen your posting so please understand the delay in my response.

I have since been able to identify the parents of my g-grandmother, Cantalicia (b. 6 Feb. 1868). They are Felix GREEN/GRIN (b. 1840) and Luisa MARQUEZ.

Felix was the youngest son of English whaler Esteban GREEN (The patriarch of the Baja GREEN/GRIN families) and Maria de Jesus CESENA. He was also the brother of Ildefonso and Juana. I am presently trying to find clues to the parentage of Luisa MARQUEZ. If any of these names ring a bell...let me know and I'll be happy to share what I have.

Hi...thank you for your response. I am descended fropm the youngest brother of Ildefonso, Felix GREEN/GRIN (b. 1840) and his wife, Luisa MARQUEZ through one of their twin daughters...Cantalicia.

I am presently trying to locate the parents of Luisa MARQUEZ as well as Jose CASTILLO (Cantalicia's 1st. husband)and would appreciate any clues someone might think would be helpful.

Our line began in Cabo San Lucas with the marriage of the Baja GREEEN/GRIN patriarch, the English Whaler Esteban GREEN and Maria de Jesus CESENA. Their son Felix married Luisa MARQUEZ and had twin daughters Cantalicia and (?) born 6 Feb. 1968 in Cabo San Lucas. Cantalicia married Jose de CASTILLO and had the following children:

1. Louise
2. Maria
3. Joseph
4. Jenny
5. Constance
6. Lucrecia (my grandmother- b. 11 Dec. 1888 in La Paz)

Jose CASTILLO died and Cantalicia married Leocadio FIERRO. At sometime Cantalicia and her family relocated in Ensenada. My father, James BROWN., was born there in 1908. The CASTILLO. FIERRO, and BROWN families soon migrated to San Diego, California where my father was raised.

If any of these names ring a bell...please do not hesitate to contact me. I'll be happy to share what information I have.
