Looking for information on Lorenza
Mendoza, wife of Panfilo
Tovar, and mother of David and
Elias Tovar. She died on 3 Feb 1916 in
Guadalupe County, TX, at approx. 22 years old of an undisclosed illness, according to death records in
Guadalupe County Courthouse, TX. Her funeral was handled by the
Goetz Funeral Home in
Seguin, TX, but they have no records before 1925. Panfilo died on 30 Jan 1918 at approx. 25 years old of Tuberculosis in
Seguin, TX. My father
Elias always told us his father Panfilo was buried in the
Santa Clara Catholic Cemetery vicinity Marion, TX (close to
Seguin), but death records at the
Guadalupe County Courthouse indicate he is buried in Riverside Cemetery in
Seguin. A binder in the genealogical section of the
Seguin Public Library containing the names of the deceased buried at Riverside Cemetery lists him as an unconfirmed at Riverside Cemetery. I believe Lorenza, and not Panfilo, is buried at
Santa Clara, and that Panfilo is in fact buried at Riverside. My father
Elias was only about 3 and 5 years old respectively when his parents died, and I believe he may have been mistakenly told that it was his father who was buried at
Santa Clara. I have checked the diocesan records in San Antonio and with the person in charge of the
Santa Clara Cemetery about whether Lorenza
Mendoza is buried in
Santa Clara Catholic Cemetery, but have not had any success. I am also curious if my uncle
Andres, who lived on Durango Street in San Antonio in the early 1960's was related to Lorenza. Would like information that might help me unscramble this puzzle.
