Looking for grandfather's family in San Luis Potosi. He was Miguel Mesa Perez. Parents were mother, Guadalupe Mesa and father first name unknown, Perez (who arrived in SLP with army from Spain). Grandfather left for Caborca and first married Juana Gutierez and after she died he married Maria Concepcion Rivera Garcia and moved to Ajo, Arizona. He left brothers Manuel, Ramon, and sisters Soledad, Guadalupe and Maria in SLP. Any info is greatly appreciated.

The date given as Immigrated would mean the children of Rafael and Elodia were Jose/12 in 1919, Ignacia/13, Rafael/6, Consuelo/1, and Esperanza/0 at the time they came to Texas in 1914.
They either came at a later date, or came other family members. I do not find them in the 1920 US census.

I am looking for anyone that has any information on the MARTINEZ family from Cerritos, San Luis Potosi, Mexico.

My Great-Grandparents were Rafael Martinez and Elodia Castillo from Cerritos, San Luis Potosi, Mexico. Together they had 10 children.

1. Maria Martinez (a.k.a. Maruca) Born in 1897'ish - Think her husbands name was Fernando Anaya. Together they had 8 kids that I have names on as listed below:
1. Graciela Anaya,
2. Celia Anaya,
3. Delia Anaya,
4. Francisco Antonio Anaya,
5. Maria Del La Luz Anaya,
6. Jose Luis Anaya,
7. Guillermo Anaya and

8.Benjamin Anaya that married a woman named Lupe on January 28, 1949. Benjamin was also in the Military.....Not sure what branch. I have a a picture from his wedding and a picture of him in his uniform.

2. Asuncion Martinez -(aka- Concha) - Married Julio Montecinos - Lived on a ranch somewhere in Mexico. Together they had a daughter named: Maria Teresa Montesinos

3. Gregoria - Baby that died at 2 yrs old (I think)

4. Jesus Martinez -(aka - Chuey) Not sure of wifes name. I want to say her Maiden name was Zuniga. Together they had a daughter named: Maria De Guadalupe Martinez

5. Ignacia Martinez- (aka Chita) - B: 1900 -D: 1964- Came to US in the 1920's - Never Married

6. Jose Martinez- (aka. Pepe) - B:1905- D:1969 -Came to the US in early 20's.

7. Rafael Martinez -(aka. Rafa) - B:1909 - D: 1967 -Came to US in early 20's- Married Tomasa Coronado: had one daughter Maria del Carmen Martinez.

8. Consuelo Martinez- (aka. Chelo)- B: 1913 - D:2009 - Came to US in the 20's. - Never Married.

9. Esperanza Martinez- (aka. Pera) - B:1915 and still living. Came to US in the 20's- Married Andres Sepulveda and had 4 children:

The story is that my Great-Grandmother Elodia died not long after the death of her last child. I know that my great-Grandfather is buried in Cerritos. (have a picture of his graveside from about 1957)

Brothers, Rafael, Jose and possibly Jesus came to the states to find work and would send money to the family in Mexico. Eventually, they sent for Ignacia, Consuelo and Esperaza to come live in the United states. They resided in Houston, Texas for over 80 years. Consuelo recently passed away on August 5, 2009 at 96 years of age. The only Sibling left is Esperanza Martinez Sepulveda. She is now 94.

I believe we may have cousins in San Antonio, Texas also...Surnames included in this post are: MARTINEZ, CASTILLO, ANAYA, MONTESINOS or MONTECINOS.

Shows Luisa Carrisal-Ortega age 59 and her daughter Delfina Ortega-Garcia age 27 from Mexico, her husband Reyes Garcia, sons Ignacio Garcia, nephew Santiago Garcia and niece Rita Garcia.

I do not show Eulojio Ortega on the census.

Did any of these family members come to the US?
I am a Carrisal/Carrizales/Carrizal.
My family came from SLP to Bastrop Co., TX, finally landing in Pasadena and Houston.
I am a transplanted Houstonian living in the RGV too.
The research I have done is through the Mormon Family History Center in McAllen. I rented some microfilms and researched our family.
My line is Perfecta Carrizal>Cruz Carrizal>Jose Nieves Carrizales/Carrizal>Luis Carrizal.
Starts in 1805 (Perfecta) and ends in 1890 (Luis)
Then we jump the river and start in 1918 (Daniel) born in Bastrop County, Texas.

My paternal grandfather was named Catarino Estrada. He was born in the state of SLP in 1896. He had a brother named Pedro Estrada. They had a sister who's name I cannot recall at the moment. She married a "Castilleja" and they raised their family in Catarina, Texas (north of Laredo). My grandfather Catarino married Maria de Jesus Salazar and my dad (Jose Teodoro Estrada) was born in Fredericksburg (Gillispie County), Texas. My grandmother passed away around 1940 and my grandfather passed away in 1982. My Tio Pedro Estrada resided for a long time in Stanton, Texas (near Odessa/Midland). The last names you mentioned do not ring a bell with me. Sorry.

sorry but I dont think I can help you. I am not aware of having any "Soria" relatives. My paternal grandfather was named "Catarino Estrada". He was married to "Maria de Jesus Salazar." Catarino was born in SLP in 1896. He did have a brother named "Pedro Estrada". In the 1920's Catarino lived in for a time in Fredericksburg (Gillispie County), Texas, which is where my dad (Jose Teodoro Estrada) was born. My Tio Pedro was a longtime resident of Stanton, Texas (near Odessa/Midland). I will still call you "El Primo."

I don't know who the Tovars are and I have never lived in Peotillos but my Aunts still do. My Great Grandfather and his Sister owned the Hacienda in the late 1800's and my Grandfather was the Administrator up until the 1970's when he passed away. My Great Grandfather was Don Agustin Soberon, my Grandfather was Candelario Soberon Carrillo and my father was Candelario Soberon Carrillo II. Our family Ancestry is from Asturias Spain via Cuba and Veracruz to Peotillos. My father passed away in 1995 but his sisters still live there. I want to go visit there soon, my cousin 'Chata' Maldonado goes there often and she has invited me several times and I just must go soon. When my Great Grandfather died, Ignacio Soberon Muriel took over and my Grandfather stayed there to run things until he passed away in the 70's. I have a ton of Cousins that visit in December for the fiestas. The Hacienda no longer belongs to family members and was sold to an outside investor in the 90's. If you have any questions I'll try to provide as much information as I can.

Churches near Labor De Nieto

I'm trying to figure which church to research. After reading another post, this town may also be known as "Labor de los Nietos" or "Labor de San Diego".
The person I'm researching was born about 1874. I'm guessing he was baptized in Guadalcazar. Would there have been a church closer to Labor de Nieto during that time period?

I have tried searching through various Genealogy Web Sites, it has been impossible to find the correct information I need. There are thousands of surnames, but none match the Husband with the right Wife. in your email, I was able to recongnize some of the last names, the Ninos, my husband father last name is Ninos, the guerreros are families that are still present in Moctezuma as well as the Ninos.

I have been trying to find some of my relatives on the Internet for some time, but it has been a dead-end. I found your Post in regards to the TORRES surname and it cought my interest. As far as I know my grandmother's mother, was named Elena Torres and her father's name was Jose Mata. My grandmother's name was Estanislada Mata and her husband's name was Crispin Coronado, they were born around 1877 in Catorce San Luis Potosi. Any of your relatives relate to these names I mentioned. I came upon your e-mail just today and had to answer.
I had a Tia that was named Dolores R. Lespron, Tucson, Arizona. Sacred Heart Church in El Paso, Texas also helped me find other family members.
Could you please let me know if Jesus ever went by the name Chuy?
