Hello to all my name is Eugenia and I am trying to research the Valenzuela's from Sonora, MX. I don't have alot to offer but I am looking for any info mainly to do with the Yaqui Indians. I have little information on a Manuel Valenzuela born in El Rio, CA or Maria de Jesus birth place unk. Maria married Juan Flores I think near Sonora. Both Manuel and Maria were of Yaqui decent and I am trying to research their ancestory. If anyone can give me some direction I would greatly appreciate it. I live in Ventura, CA. My e-mail is edpcow@earthlink.net Thank you Eugenia

Hello Norine. It has been awhile since we have written each other. It's one in the morning but I'll share what I have with you. The woman I am researching is Maria de Jesus Valenzuela. She married my gg grandfather Juan Flores. Her fathers name was Jose Maria Valenzuela and her mother was Flavia Medina. Maria was buried in Ventura, CA. Most of the family in Ventura have passed over and the one's that are left won't share any info. They pass the buck and because there are so many name changes it's hard to track. One of my cousins was named Manuel I think he could of been a brother to Mary.Their are also many Chumash indians with the last name of Valenzuela here in Ventura and Bakersfield, CA. I hope you might have ran across her name. Record are hard to find in Ventura. Some years back they removed markers from the old Catholic Cementary so it is hard to get dates. Hope to hear from you soon. I have a friend who would like to find her Yaqui ancestors. Good nite and dream of little indians.

Hi Eugenia,
Do you know where in Sonora Juan Flores was from?
Roughly when was Juan Flores born?
Does the name Bonifacio Flores ring a bell?
Do the place names Sahuaripa or Santa Rosa ring a bell?

Okay Fernando you have my attention. The answer to your questions are all No! But if you have any info that might help me with our search I would really appricate it. All I know is that my family moved to Ventura, CA. I have very little on Juan or Maria. Where do you live. Is Juan Flores apart of your family? Come on inquiring minds what to know SMILE. It is nice to know that someone is researching Juan's name. I do have some info but nothing before him. I am hoping we can help each other. Take Care Eugenia (edpcow@earthlink.net)

Do you have even an approximate year of birth for Juan Flores, or even a five-year window?

I know I told you no to all questions before but I was thinking about the name Bonifacio and I think my mom had once said something about someone with that name was a family member. I am sometimes on the late train. Hope we are searching the same family. Eugenia

Dear Norine - I am the gg granddaughter of Jose Maria & Flavia through their daughet Maria Luisa. I know quite a bit about the family. Up until recently one of their grandchildren was still alive, Charlie Valenzuela. They had numerous children. The names you mentioned I did not know about. I know of 14 others. Did you know that they were never married. Baptismal certificates from the Mission state the children were illegitimate. My mother mentioned stories about the wild Valenzuela cousins. Jose Maria came to this country about 1834 (he was born 1819) from somewhere in Sonora. He settled in the Colonia area near Oxnard. He later went to pan for gold during the gold rush. He owned 7 acres somewhere in Ventura. Flavia came from Mexico City. And she had a couple of children before she took up with Jose Maria. And there's more

Hi,
My mother-in laws maiden name is Valenzuela. Her mothers name was Nettie? I believe her reatives are from Mexico. Maybe Sinoloa? We think she has Indian ancestry. If you have any imformation please e-mail me. She died by gun shot, accidently. There are relatives appearently living in Sinoloa that have contacted relatives here in the states. My children would like to know what their ancestry is...Thank You, Linda
