Que onda primos! My family also comes form El Soliseno on my dads side. My dad's name is Jose Luis
Garcia born to
Joaquin Garcia Guevara and
Virginia Cruz. Both my grandmother and grandfather had numerous brotheres and sisters but I can't think of all the names off the top of my head. I will talk to my grandmother and post all their names and their parents names in the next few days.
I actually just got back from a trip I took to Mexico over the Thanksgiving holiday and I went and visited my grandfathers grave in the cemetery in El Soliseño. He is buried next to some
Guevara Solis so there has to be some relation to the
Solis there because they are all in the same plot. I will also inquire into this.
In the 70's all of my dad's family left El SOliseno and have all since lived in Baytown,
Texas where there are alot of families form El Soliseno. Some of the families are
Garcia,
Cruz,
Rivera,
Medrano,
Sanchez, these are the ones I can think of off the top of my head.
Cesar I know we are related. My grandmother and yours are sisters I'm sure. I remember visiting "
La Ventiocho" as a kid with mi tia
Imelda. My grandmother is
Virginia sister to la tia Panchita as we called her. Also my padrinos are Homero and Yolanda
Maldonado. It's been a few years since we've been. The last time we went
Tio Jesus was already pretty sick though.
Well I hope to get some replies. I see that a lot of the posts date back a few years.
Oh and for those interested in going to El Soliseno it isn' very far from the Progreso or
Los Indios int' bridges. Probably about ten-fifteen minutes. If you come in through Progreso make a left at the toll road or if you come in form
Los Indios make a right (here you actually pay no toll as opposed to a US$2 toll if you enter from Progreso). Once you're on the toll you're gonna have to look for a wooden sign spray painted with El Soliseño and and arrow . Be on the look out as this will not be an exit sign like you would see here in the states. it will just be a sign on the side of the road. You can't get lost becaus that toll road just takes you from Nuevo Progreso to
Los Indios which are just border corssing towns. Oh and if you google El Soliseñ you will find an article stating that the Mex. gov't will soon be restoring some of the old buildings left standing in El Soliseno. They already have the $ alloted so hopefully this will happen soon.
