Hola, conocí a tu bisuabuelo Don Friaco, sus últimos años los vivió con su hija mi tía Fernanda, lo recuerdo muy bien en mi infancia, era un señor de barba poblada y larga y tenía un enorme gusto por la lectura, compartió algunos libros con mi padre. Con referencia a nuestro apellido Azuara quiero que sepan que hace unos años a la Cd. de Huejutla trajeron los restos de los Gererales Azuara e invitaron a los familiares más directos para que acompañaran, siempre he tenido la duda sobre el origen de nuestro apellido y fíjense que encontré por ahí que en España existe un lugar llamado Azuara con poca población y es de origen árabe. Con respecto al apellido Sánchez siempre ha existido en mi pueblo la pregunta de su relación directa con el Coronel Rafael Platón Sánchez, es muy probable que exista esta relación, tengo una tía llamada Felipa Sánchez quien vive en la Col. Rivera Méndez, quien es familiar directo del Coronel, pregunten a sus papás o sus abuelitos si la conocen y puede ser una línea de investigación confiable. Saludos a todos!!!!

Looking for the descendants of Maria Olvera. Her husband was Saturnino. They had three sons, two named Joel and the other Florencio or Florentino (unsure). Their other brother (eldest) immigrated to the US and changed his name to Fidencio Garcia Hinojosa. Maria is my grandmother.
Any help is appreciated. I have a picture of my grandmother and uncles if it helps....

Sorry for the late reply- all my family that is name Uscanga that I know of live in Veracruz from my fathers side. My grandma die but her last name was only Uscanga b/c of my grandfather but he die too. my family is part of the rev. war on both side's I would liek to know more of where my last name came from I would like to know what my name has been part of- is a missing key to me-

Which is the name of your mother or grandmother? Its very nice know about you. I am in Mexico City, my grandmother is still alive I suppose that she live a long live, like Jovita that passed away when she has a hundred years.

Yo soy también Azuara y debo comentarles con todo respeto y sin el afán de lastimar a nadie con esto, tengo entendido por mi abuelito y familia que efectivamente hay muchos AZUARA en Platón Sánchez pero que no todos tienen la sangre del apellido, parece ser que antiguamente algunas personas le ponía a sus hijos el nombre o apellido de su patrón o bien del cacique de la región así que es muy complicado esto, claro habría que indagar bien las lineas correctas de la familia...Y para quien comenta que está casada con un Azuara de Platón debo decirle que no todo nuestro pueblo tiene esos apellidos sanchez-azuara y azuara-sanchez. Por cierto mi bisabuelo era Friaco Azuara por si alguien escuchó sobre él...Gracias y buena noche a todos.

I am searching for any family in the state of Veracruz, Veracruz who had a daughter/sister by the name of Lucila. She passed away giving birth, from a stroke in July 1973. I believe at the time she was 26 yrs old and married to a man with the last name of Ledesma. Her maiden name was Hererra. I am that daughter and they named me after her. he was an undocumented immigrant to the U.S when he met my mother. I'm interested in why Italians chose Mexico over the US to immigrate to. My great grandparents immigrated to El Oro, MEx in late 1890's to take part in the minning business there. I know also things were not so good in N.Italy/S.Austria at that time.
Why did your family go to Mexico? Why did they choose Veracruz? Was there an Italian community there?
An irony to the whole matter of Italians in Mexico was the fact that during the MExican Revolution, they were not only under suspicion by the government but also persecuted by the revolutionary forces....Zapata's forces raided El Oro, sacked the bank, and strung up my greatgrandfather. I assume it was because he was a foreigner or part of "the establishment" as he was a mine manager. He was spared at the last moment by a miracle. This near death experience forced him and many other to the relative safety of Mexico City.

John, very interesting to hear about your grandfather. I imagine there must be alot of similiar stories "out there" and I would be so interested in hearing them! At the age of 77, after having lived in Mexico for 53 years, my g-grandfather was sent to prison for a two year period until 1945. I have no idea what his politics were. I know he encouraged his sons to enlist in the Mexican army in 1918, which they did. I can only guess that maybe he was a stubborn old man who still felt some loyalty to Italy? Why else would they put him in prison? Any other stories out there?

My grandfather was mexican but of Austrian/Italian descent (Walter MEnghini). He was a chemical engineer at a smelter in Monterrey, Mex. When WWII broke out, he was interrogated about his politics and other relevant things by mexican and American officials. After it was ascertained he wasn't sympathetic to the Axis he was free to go. What probably saved him from anthing worse was the fact that he was born in Mexico.
As an aside, at the beginning of WWI he attended the German School in MExico City. It was closed down and his parents sent him to San Antonio , Texas to finish out his schooling.
I never heard about this concentratino camp you mentioned. How long was it untill your grandfather was released?

Well, my fiancee's full name is Doris Karina Uscanga... She was born in Veracruz, Veracruz to her mother Ana Lara and her father Angel Uscanga...

As far as Angel Uscangas mother, im not too sure about her name, i did meet her twice over there in Veracruz, but i dont recall her name...

My fiance did tell me about how she just recently found out that "Uscanga" has Basque origins, and that has definately aroused my curiosity as well as hers... Especially since the Basques are shrouded with so much mystery as to their origins...

Perhaps i can find out more info as to my fiancee's fathers origin and post it on here... Maybe there is a connection somewhere...

My mother was born in Alvarado, Veracruz, not too far from the city of Veracruz. She was the youngest of ten kids. Her mother's name was Jovita Gonzalez. She was born on the boat on the way to Veracruz.from Spain. Is your soon to be wife from Mexico and what are the names in her family? I believe Alavardo was full of Uscanga's. My mother's father's first name was Sebastian. They were from the Basque region of Spain. Please write back soon, I am curious about your future wife's family.

Perote Prison - WWII Concentration Camp

I have recently learned that my g-grandfather at age 76 was sent to a concentration camp in Veracruz during WWII because he was an Italian national. He had immigrated from Italy in 1890, arriving in Veracruz and living in Mexico the remainder of his 85 years. I have not been able to find much info on this subject of the treatment of Axis Nationals in Mexico, and in fact, am only guessing that the Prison he was sent to was Perote. I would like to obtain more information on this subject and if you know of any website, books or personal knowlege on this subject please advise.

I am looking for any info on Pedro Veracruz, my great great grandfather or Victoriano Veracruz his father. It is rumored that Pedro and his brother came from the port of Veracruz after one of his brother shot someone, and they fled to San Antonio. It is also believe that Pedro and his brother formed on of the first baseball teams from Mexico, they may have also changed there name to Veracruz. Does anyone have any info about Pedro? All this info was told to me by family memebers. Thanks for any help.
