George F. Gaumer married my great aunt, Virdilla
McGee. I don't have information on their son, George J. Gaumer, but I have a little on their other son, John Daniel, and daughter,
Olive Gaumer. John Daniel (b. 19 May 1896 in Yucatan, Mexico) was an engineering student in 1917 in Milwaukee, Wisc. and lived in Chicago through at least 1930. His sister,
Olive, married a
Smith and had two children,
Obie A. (son) and
Olive J. Obie died in 2003 in
Austin,
Texas and is buried in Ft. Sam
Houston Nat'l Cemetery, San Antonio, Tx. I don't know about
Olive J. Smith. Olive
Gaumer Smith died in 1974,
Paradise Valley,
Maricopa Co., Ariz. I'd like to locate an obituary of hers. I have a copy of a very lengthy letter that Virdilla
McGee Gaumer wrote to her family in
Kansas shortly before her death in 1913. She was reminiscing about her times growing up in Lawrence,
Kansas in the mid-late 1800's. She also tells of some adventures and life in Mexico after she married George F. Gaumer. My grandmother, who was a first cousin to Virdilla, tells of the children (George, John &
Olive) coming to visit in KC MO and how oddly they spoke and sounded. They were some of the few whites who spoke the
Mayan dialect. Anyway, let's share information. You can contact me directly at
