My grandfather, Jesus Guerrero Carrillo (1898-1963) was born in Malanoche but was raised in Lobatos. He became a villista in the Mexican Revolution in the years between 1913 to 1918, and became presidente municipal of Valparaiso in 1942. His father, Jose Guerrero (born 1875/6) lived in Lobatos. Don Jesus's mother was named Macedonia Carrillo (born 1881/2). I had unfortunately not been able to trace my Guerrero lineage any further back. The other children of Jose Guerrero and Macedonia Carrillo were Pedro (born 1900/2), Vicenta (born 1905/6), Guadalupe (born 1906/7), and Manuela (born 1907/8). Any help or suggestion would be appreciated.

This is an update. I was able to find an indexed database of Mexican baptisms, and I found that the information on my grandfather's baptismal certificate has been indexed. Not only did it contain the name of his father but also that of his grandfather (and grandmother) as well. I now know that his grandfather's name was Bibiano Guerrero. What's more I was able to know, from other indexed documents, who three of his father's siblings were: Agapito Guerrero (born 1861?), Petra Guerrero (born 1880) and Maria Sostenes Guerrero (born 1881) the last, who married into a noted family of agraristas called the Argomaniz. At this point I seemed to have hit a road block. Other indexed references to "Bibiano Guerrero" do not match what I have. Since Agapito Guerrero was born, probably in the early 1860's I'm assuming that his father Bibiano was born by about 1840, either in Mala Noche or perhaps some other locale, perhaps Rancho Pastores. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hello HHRuiz

follow this link:

http://search.labs.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#...

and use the "Search Form"

One word of recommendation: Don't try to be too specific in the search using the name of a pueblo or rancho. Most of the time the place of birth itself is not indexed although it is on the indexed document. Rather use the name of the state. It may bring up more results than you may want to browse through, but the search form also has the option to look for indexed parentage as well to help make smaller searches.

One thing to be aware. Not all parishes record baptisms the same way. Some may just record the names of the parents but other parishes may record the names of the grandparents as well. If your ancestor (or other person of interest) lived in a municipio adjacent to Monte Escobedo, for instance, there is a good chance that (instead of having their child baptised in the local parish) they may have taken the trip to Adjuntas del Refugio, in Monte Escobedo, to be baptised. The parish at Adjuntas del Refugio traditionally recorded the names of the grandparents, as in the case of my grandfather.

Just an afterthought: Names can be tricky, especially Spanish names. "Jose" and "Maria" are too common, so if you have a middle name, that may be more helpful. You may get better results, for example in searching for "Refugio Gonzalez" instead of "Jose Refugio Gonzalez" or "Jose Gonzalez".

The site also includes the 1930 Mexican Census. Scroll down to map and click on "North America". Scroll down to "Mexico" and follow instructions. It is divided into an indexed portion and an "image only" section. Zacatecas is not indexed yet so you will have to look at the scanned images of the schedules, which are fortunately indexed by state, municipality, and locale.
