Your response was posted a while ago. So I don't know if you will get this. My mother just passed away and so did Elaine (Duhn) Horn just prior to her. So I am digging up the family information to give to a nephew that I met at her family. I have been out of contact with my brother (Thore John Duhn) for many year and thought it would be nice to give him some information. I had the info that Elaine did once, but it was lost years ago. If would be nice to find it again. tejadafamily@att.net. Thanks!
I also found out that I did not send you the gravestone photos you requested and thought I had mailed to you.
Do you still want this information.
Lyn,

I am sorry I have been so tardy in not replying to your posts.

I believe I have an answer to your comment about Luke Livingston.

John Livingston, Jr. was born in Sorel, Canada around 1829. He served in the civil war in the First Regiment of the Vermont Cavalry as well as Fifteenth Regiment of Vermont Volunteers. I have originals of his discharge papers from both regiments. According to the information I have John Livingston Jr. had at three sons and a daughter who grew up to adulthood.

Sons
John D. Livingston (father of Charles Lawrence Livingston, b1882, d 1962 along with 5 sisters and 5 brothers - Charles was my grandfather)

Charles Livingston who was an Episcopal minister on Long Island, New York (I have a picture of him in 1938 that he gave Charlie)

Luke Livingston (who I believe is your Luke Livingston)

Jane Crabee of Wilder Vermont.

The infomation I have about John D. Livingston (brother of Luke) is that he was born in Newport, Vermont on 11-29-1849. I also have another piece of information that say he was born in Georgeville, Canada on the same date. Georgeville, Quebec is about 14 miles due north of Newport. Newport itself is about four miles from the border.

I hope this helps.

Sincerely,

Dave

Bill,

Many, many thanks for your post.

If my memory is correct, I believe we may have met though a long time ago.

I spent a summer in 1961 on Mick and Shirley’s farm. As a city boy, that experience is as sharp and as meaningful today as it was 47 years ago. I have many fond memories of Mick, Shirley, Mike, and Steve from those two months (Patty was not there that summer). I also have fond memories of that part of Iowa – Arnolds Park, Milford, Spencer, Estherville, and Terrill.

One afternoon that summer, Mick, Mike, Steve and I went over to your dad’s farm to help bale hay (at least I think it was hay. It could have been something else like alfalfa.). I believe that your dad’s nick name was Slip (I may have spelled this wrong.) I seem to remember that he had some children so if you alive then, I probably met you. I can’t say that you made an impression on me though. I clearly remember baling the hay since it was hot, hard, and dirty work. I rode on a flat top wagon that was pulled behind the baler (pulled by a tractor) and with Mike and Mick tried to keep up with the bales coming out and get them stacked.

My father died in 1983. He served in the U.S. Navy for 30 years. After he retired, he went to a small Baptist teacher’s college in Phoenix to get an elementary education teaching degree and taught school until 1972 when he retired. He actually was not part of Charlie’s business (or at least not on a day to day basis). I grew up in Phoenix, went to college and got a degree in chemical engineering, and have worked as a chemical engineer since. Most of this time was spent in Houston or Mobile, Alabama.

In April last year, I made a trip through upper Iowa to look for Livingston graves and other information. I spent some time in Cresco and found a copy of the high school year book for my father’s senior year. I believe he only went to Cresco high school for two years and graduated in 1925. Before that he was in Milford. We drove to Spencer, spent the night and looked for graves in Ruthven and Milford the next day. I found Charlie’s father’s grave (John or Jack Livingston) and his mother’s (Julia Wilson Livingston) in Ruthven. In Milford, we found the graves of Eula and Ethel Bell Livingston (my father’s older sister who died in Milford in 1913 the day before my father turned seven).

I have a sister Ethel who lives in San Diego. I have two daughters but no sons. My father’s first family (he was married to a woman named Ruth from Cresco) produced a son named Frederick Livingston. He is deceased but had two sons and a daughter. I am not in touch with them.

In November 2002, I met Steve Sanders in Indianapolis at the funeral from Francis Livingston who was Shirley and my dad’s brother. I did not get an address from him so I have not been in touch with him.

I would like very much like to hear more from you.

Sincerely,

Dave
David,
I have some information on the Livingston Family. My aunt was Shirley Livingston b.Jun 10 1920,Milford,Dickinson,Iowa,d.Jan 11 1998,Milford,Dickinson,Iowa.She was the daughter of Charles Lawrence Livingston and Eula Evelyn Edmonds. Charley and Eula separated soon after Shirley's birth.Charley moved to Cresco,Iowa with the other kids and farmed for some time, then started a tool company, which turned into the Livingston Tool Company of Algona,Iowa.Charley and his partner,Burton Harms, developed an irrigation valve and gate system that became popular in the southwest. That led Charley to start the Livingston Irrigation Company of Phoenix,Arizona.Your father,I believe, was part of that company. The Livingston's that I knew were Guy and Viola from Milford,Iowa. Charley and his second wife from Algona,Iowa and,of course,Shirley, who married Milton(Mick)Sanders from Milford,Iowa. We lived on the farm next to Mick and Shirley and I grew up with their children,Patty,Mike and Steve.
I do have other geneology information and personal history if you are interested.
Sincerely,
Bill Sanders

I have found 2 obits listed in the Mallard Leader Index on the iagenweb site. How might I get these obits? One is for Nicholas Luke Ridenour and the other is for Harold Ridenour. Ernest Grant Ridenour also died near Mallard, but did not see his obit in the index. He is buried at the Rush Lake Cemetery.

Hello cousin. Yes Highland Cemetery is north east of Ruthven in Highland Township. And yes many of our Eaton family members are buried there. Who are you looking for? I might have a picture of the tombstone.
The cemetery is across the road from where my great-grandfater Joshia Eaton farmed. All of the brothers that lived in the area had farms near there. You would go one mile north of Ruthven, turn right and go two miles east and then turn north 1/2 mile. The cemetery sits on top of the "Highland" in the area. The hill use to be a marker for early traveler when there was just grass and wetlands.

Let me know if you have any other questions. I will try to answer them.

Jeanine - granddaughter of LuElla Eaton

What Calvary Cemetery are you referring to - the one at Ayrshire? If so, it isn't very large. It's at the west end of Silver Lake Cemetery. There are a few burials listed at findagrave.com but I don't see your Maguires. At findagrave.com there's a photo of the cemetery entrance. Good luck. Sandra

You might check findagrave.com. A few burials are listed at that web site. There is also a map showing the cemetery location.

If you can't find the cemetery records at the City Hall, try the library. I often find cemetery listings there.

Sandra

Yes - I am Stuart and Laura's Grandaughter. Wichman's does sound familiar. I think it might be through my Uncle James Davis's wife Marjorie. I seem to recall that her side of the family had Wichman's in it. James was Stuart and Laura's Eldest son. What a small world.

My mother had the Ruthven Centenial book. I did not know that. My sister is sending it to me. iI'm ancxious to look at it for sure.
If you are Stuart and Laura Davis's grandchild I might know you, since according to a comment that my grandmother, Opal Prather Carpenter made once to me when I was very small, that we were cousins to the Davis's in Ruthven. Grandma's Grandmother's mother was a Davis, living in Indiana. Do you remember any Carpenters or Wichmans?

I was just looking through the Ruthven Centennial Book, 1984, on page 329 your grandmother, Laura is listed with her parenets and grandparents. There is a copy of the book in the Ruthven Library, next door to the city hall.

Good luck with your search.

In Maria Johnson's obituary Ruthven Free Press February 19, 1919 it states that two of her sister's were at the funeral. One - Mrs. Ole B. Nelson (my great grandmother)and Mrs. Ole Johnson (Gr-Grandmother's sister). I am trying to find a connection to Maria Johnson. Her husband Andrew passed away the year before her. Both are buried in Crown Hill Cemetery.
Any information on them? I believe that their daughter was Anna who is also buried in Crown Hill Cemetery.

I have pretty deep roots there too, however have not been back there since I was 17!!
My Grandparents Stuart & Laura Davis. Buried in Crown Hill. There are a bunch of Nelson's (her maiden name)buried there too, and a bunch of Johnson's. My sisters and I are bringing our Mother's ashes to bury there with her family next month! She will be in the cremation area of course.
I have been in conatact with Christine at the City Hall. She told me that no one has kept the list up and that perhaps if we are lucky she will get it done before we get there. I had noticed the posting and was hoping that at least I could find alist up to a particular date. I must excersize patience!!

The genealogy interest has taken over me since her death.

Thanks for your reply. You are appreciated.
