Herbert B.G. Maune was born at Union, Mo., on June 30, 1908, the son of the late Henry O. Maune and his wife, Mary E. Graf, and passed away at Hermann, Mo., on Sunday, October 12, 1986, in his 78th year.
He was baptized in infancy and confirmed in the Zion Evangelical Church in Union. He received his schooling here and graduated from St. Louis University. On July 7, 1940 he was united in marriage to Miss Marie Mantels and they made their home here in Union, Mo. Mr. Maune taught school in the Union elementary school for five years. He also sold insurance for over 50 years. He was a member of the Zion Church of Union and served on the church council. He was a member of the Union Chamber of Commerce and Modern Woodmen of America; the Union Masonic Lodge No. 593, of which he was a Past Master; the Naomi Chapter of Eastern Star #296, of which he had served as a worthy patron; he was a past president of the Four Rivers Shrine Club. He was a 33 Degree Mason of the Scottish Rite and a member of the reception committee of the Moolah Temple; he served as a board member of the Rural District and National Letter Carriers Associaiton; and was a past Exaulted Ruler of the Elks Lodge. He also was a retied member of the Union Fire Department.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Viola Maune.
Those who survive are his wife, Marie Maune of Union, Mo.; one daughter, Barbara Gardner and her husband, Lester Jr., of Union; two grandchildren, Lester III and Christina Gardner; one sister-in-law, Louise and Fred Dodel of Warrenton, Mo.; and other relatives and friends.
After resting in state at the Oltmann Funerla Home in Union, Mo., funeral services were held on Wednesday, October 15, 1986 from the Zion United Church of Christ in Union at 11 a.m. by Reverend John Stevesand. Interment followed in the Zion Church Cemetery at Union, Mo.
