Would like to know what newspapers were being published in Queens in 1963 and where they can be found on microfilm. I am trying to find the obituary of William Brownlee who died July 28, 1963 in Queens. Have already checked the New York Times.

The Long Island Daily Press was published in 1963. Copies of the paper are on microfilm in the Levitown Public Library located in Nassau County, Long Island New York.
Hopefully someone will put it online someday..Good Luck

I have also been interested on if there were any Queens Newspapers that published obituaries. My Grandmother Marie A. Dury died on May 28, 1963 in Queens. I cannot get to Library in Queens as I live in Ky. If you go and look up your relative is there any way you could check for my Grandmother. They died same year very close dates. This would really be appreciated. Thanks for any help. In Ky. many of our public libraries lookup obituaries in County person died. Some charge nothing and some a small fee and for copies. Do any libraries in Queens do this? This has really helped me in finding relatives I didn't know existed. Obituaries list people's relations and other important data on the person who passed away. Thanks again for any information.

I checked with the Levittown Public Library. They will look up obituaries. They want a written request, with person's name, date of death and place died. They check their microfilm for Long Island Press newspaper. Their e-mail address is levtown@nassaulibrary.org. The media department handles this. They searched for my Grandmother but unfortunately there was no obituary. You may have better luck.

Thanks for this information. When you say "written" request- do you mean snail mail or will they accept an email request?
I'm looking for obituaries for several Burkland family members.

You can send e-mail request or one by U.S. mail. I sent e-mail request. They replied right away. I have some other relatives to look for also. I am also wondering if any other Queens newspaper that could have obituaries. If any one knows, please reply. Thanks.

I contacted the Queens library thru their website. They have several branches in Queens. They stated that their Jamacia branch on Merrick Blvd has the best selection of newspapers on microfilm. They charge $8 for an obituary lookup via US Mail. I paid for a search but they said they found nothing. Quite frankly I feel they did not do a diligent job. They actually lost my first request. Better to go there and do your own research if you can.

Thanks for the additional name of Newspaper. Do you know where it is actually published? I live in Ky. and I want to be sure if contact a library they know what I am talking about. Also in regard to obituary lookup I had done. I had called the Levittown Public Library first. The person transferred me to media room. They told me to send written request which I did by e-mail. They charged nothing for their service. I have now followed up with request on 4 more obituaries of family members. Since I live in Ky., even a small charge would be worth it for me. Some of the libraries in Ky charge a small fee of $5.00 for research and than ,25 cents a copy. I have had them look up as many as 6 obituaries for the $5.00 fee for them all. Thanks for any other information on newspapers.
