Looking for info on Mary Van Sise, born around 1897 in New York, Queens, to Oscar Ketcham Van Sise and Susan Van Sise. Brother was my father, Elwood Oscar Van Sise. Only info I can find is on census but cannot find what happened to her.

There is an excellent possibility that the Van Sise and Scism families are closely related in NY Hudson Valley. Research indicates a possible original surname of vanderChijs (VanderSijs) out of the village of Chijs, Flanders. (C. 1620-30).

Would like to have a (male) Van Sise sample for the Scism DNA project. (Now would be a good time, there is a sale going on, contact Jeff@ibssg.org)

Just little added info.

Ellwood & Elwood are not the same person.

The above Ellwood & Charles are brothers. Charles was married to Minnie.

The Elwood, s/o Oscar & Susan only had the one sister. It's Mary E. on the 1900 and 1910 censuses and May E. / Mae E. on the 1920 and 1930 censuses. Mae E. on the marriage record and May as you have in her mother's obit.

She married Wilbur Martin Hopkins.

As of 1930 they had 3 children.

Marjorie Mae
Evelyn Florence
Wilbur M.

I haven't been able to find obits yet for the above family to see if there were more children. I do have a little more on this line (educated guesses) but a lot of blanks and am waiting for confirmation to my guesses.

Your family.

I have Elwood's 2000 & Goerge's 2005 obit but could use some help making sure I have the correct people with the correct mothers and spouses.

I'm not posting names and questions here because most of the people are still living.

I just let my 10+ year subscription expire and can't contact you via ancestry and I won't be resubscribing for some time unless they get their act together.

The first VanCise, VanSice, VanSise (current known variations - also used Van Syce, Van Size, Van Sysen, Van Syssen, etc.)stated that he was born in Middleburg, in the Province of Zeeland, the Netherlands [Holland]

It's possible that the name was a "revival of a "dormant" family name, so common among New Netherlanders. In Holland the name van Sysen existed before the year 1650."

I have also seen Province of Groningen, Netherlands) and one other location that I can't locate right now.

I have no close, straight line, male descendants to help you out but would love to hear if you find someone to participate and what you find out.
