I realise that your main search is for the Flore family but in my search I found a name that I have been unsuccessful in finding much more than a little in the Scottish collection. My Great grand father was a ?Thomas boyle born in Iresland and married a Briget d'Alef, they had a son also Thomas and he married Frederina Saunders, from this marriage my grand father was born and it appears that Thomas disappeared from the scene, what information do you have on the d'Alef name and where did they come from before being in Ireland. You may email me at pamannreid@hotmail.com. Happy hunting, pam of new zealand

I am trying to find the origin of the FLORES family. My ancestor Michael Flores (1714-1773) established the family in Upper Milford, now Lehigh County, near Dillingersville around 1740. His son Johan Michael married Anna Maria HEISER. The History of Lehigh County says he came from Wittemberg, Germany, but I have not be able to remotely confirm this. I'm hoping that somone may have researched one of his friends or neighbors who came from the same part of the Palatinate. Please contact me if this sounds familiar!*

I know this thread is old but here goes anyway.

The parents of Benneville K. were John Hausman b. 13 Sep 1826 d. 7 Feb 1853 (at the age of 29) and Polly Krause b. 15 Dec 1825 d. 22 Oct 1907. Polly remarried to Nathan Biery who was himself a widower and both are buried together on the Jordan Reformed Church Cemetery, South Whitehall, Lehigh.

I have not found the burial site of John but his parents are Johan Michael & Magdalena (George) Hausman (the George family was based in Lowhill, Lehigh). John's grandfather Johannes b.1762 d.1838 is found buried on Heidelberg Church Cemetery along with many other Hausmans.

Polly is seen in the 1860 census for Heidelberg Twp. with her parents Frederick & Maria Catharina (Miller) Krause and daughter Amelia. Benneville & sister Sophia are living with their Aunt & Uncle Joseph & Caroline (Haaf) Krause in Lowhill Twp.

Benneville is firstborn followed by 4 girls. Sister Maria married a Jacob Kressly (from Lowhill Twp). The other sisters are Sophia, Amelia, and UNKNOWN. No further information. I have not found the resting place for Benneville, but I assume he is somewhere in Bethlehem, Northampton Co. area.

Benneville has 2 daughters and 3 sons. Winfield Scott married an Alice UNKNOWN and had 3 daughters. They moved to Philadelphia and his last known address was Upper Darby in Delaware Co. PA. Ward Beecher Hausman b. 12 Apr 1872 married a Miriam or Marion UNKNOWN and had 1 daughter. They moved to Philadelphia where he became a machinist in the motion picture industry and inventor. He has many patents for his inventions. His last known address was Drexel Hill, Delaware Co. PA. d. 12 Apr 1952 and is buried in the Arlington Cemetery there. Charles John b. 26 Apr 1864 never married but moved to Philadelphia where he engages in the shoe business with his brothers. Daughters Lillie & Mary, no further information.

I have more dates for these people and others in the family. To much to list on a post. It is all on my TNG site at http://www.krauseoflehighvalley.org.

I don't know for sure but Benneville's middle name is probably Krause for after his mother's birth name. anyone with further information, post or email.

Jerry
I am searching for the families of 2 soldiers that were POW/KIA in the Korean War. When they entered service they gave Lehigh County as thier home of record

Soldier: CHARLES CLYDE KEISER
Born: 1932
Date of loss;Oct. 10, 1950

Soldier: EDWARD CHARLES KRATZER
Born: 1930
Loss: April 17, 1953

When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located. These are 117 families from Pennsylvania that are missing and 2 from Lehigh County.

When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (79years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find this family. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency.

I will be grateful for any assistance in locating this family.

Harold Davis
40th Infantry Division
Korea ’52-‘53
910-791-2333
hgdavis@bellsouth.net
Is there an OH birth record available that would resolve the issue? Millersburg is in Holmes County. Any birth records prior to 1909 is on the county level and must be obtained from the courthouse.

Holmes County Courthouse - Probate Office
1 E.

Does anyone know where I could find someone I could pay to go to the Orphans Courts in Allentown and look for a particular will? It is too hard to order by mail and ask the clerks to look up as I wish to have someone look at all wills of a certain surname between 1875 and 1890 to locate the name of a certain child so I can connect generations. Any ideas?

Neil

For searching Churches in locations and proximity Id like to know how close Salisbury, Northampton and Allentown in Lehigh County are. Do you know of any maps? Do these towns straddle Northampton county. My family overflowed between these towns and Bushkill,Northampton, and Allen townships are in Northampton County. Most modern maps dont have half of these townships. All very confusing for a Californian. lol

Thank you

Neil

1914 envelope to Joseph NEMETH of Allentown, Pennsylvania from Csorotnek, Hungary

I recently found a photograph an old envelope that was sent to Joseph NEMETH of Allentown, Pennsylvania from Csorotnek, Hungary in 1914. You can see the envelope on http://philgen.org (search on Allentown, click on View, and scroll to the bottom of the page), or click on the link below. Several persons named Joseph NEMETH appear in the 1920 US census, Pennsylvania, Lehigh County, Allentown, but none of them reside on Penn Street. I am unable determine which Joseph NEMETH received this envelope and wondered if someone more familiar with Allentown can link this envelope to one of the persons named Joseph NEMETH. I believe that Csorotnek, Hungary may be his or his parents' birthplace and this envelope will be helpful to someone in their genealogical research. The reason I have a photo of the envelope is because of my interest in using old envelopes and postcards in genealogical research. I have an article in the spring 2009 issue of New England Ancestors entitled Philatelic Genealogy (viewable on the philgen website) and have started the philgen website. I do not know if the letter that was in the envelope still exists.

Here is a direct link to the photo of the envelope: http://philgen.org/index.php?option=com_fabrik&c=form&am...

Hi,
The LC Historical Society has the Immaculate Conception Cemetery listing but it is from a private walk through that was done several years ago. This is not official church record because the Catholic Church does not allow them to be published unless you go through the Family History Center Microfilm (early records) or the church.
Anyway; I can tell you that the surname Greer is in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery from researching the surname Gallagher there. If you run into a roadblock I'd be happy to assist.
ancestralwinds@yahoo.com

mystery of the Joseph Freymans of South Whitehall solved

I have solved the problem of my 3 g grandfather Joseph Freyman I was struggling with for awhile.

There are two Joseph Freymans born very near in date to each other, both in S. Whitehall. One was born 14 Aug 1806 and baptized at the Jordan Reformed Church 2 Nov 1806 in South Whitehall. The parents were Michael (born 1780 and son of George Freyman) and Maria Freyman. The other Joseph was born four years earlier on 19 Mar 1802 and baptized 23 May 1802 in South Whitehall also at the Jordan Reformed Church. His parents were Christoph and Eva. My line comes through the first one.

The source for both Freymans was the LDS IGI index but the sources for both on the IGI were the baptismal records of the Jordan Reformed Church, South Whitehall, PA which I double checked. I know my Joseph was the first since I found a death record for him at the County courthouse which lists his birth as 14 Aug 1806. To make things even more confusing these two Joseph Freymans were living right next to each other in the 1830 and 1840 census but they of course have different number of people in the household My Joseph does not appear again on the census until 1880 tho. Strange.

Neil

It does help. According to my Scheirer/Scheurer's family legend, Jonas Scheirer b 2-10-1797 d. 3-19-1890 married that Indian woman named Peewachten. Who his parents were I cannot determine. Another man named Jonas Scheurer b. 7-31-1793 is the child of Adam b 1754 according to your info. And at this time I'm not willing to change-out the two Jonas' because I don't have sufficient documentation.

Also according to family legend Jonas and Peewachten are buried in a Lehigh Co. cemetery named "Rising Sun" with an old rusted gate. And supposedly on his headstone is written "Here lies Jonas Scheurer and his squaw." So far I've not been able to locate such a cemetery. This Jonas had 6 children: Catharina b Jan 24, 1822, Tilghman b. Dec 18, 1817, Elias Dec 24, 1819, Thomas Oliver (which I am descended from) b. June 11, 1823, George LaFayette b. Dec 10, 1824 and finally Moses b. Oct 14, 1826.

I've not been able to identify Jonas' (b. 2-10-1797) wife but have identified almost all other Scheirer/Scheurer wives. So I do find this peculiar. Maybe she was an Indian???? He is buried in UUC of Christ Cem. Neff's and it doesn't say anything about his marriage to a squaw like my deceased relatives have claimed.

I have Thomas Oliver Scheirer's wife as Mary A. Braden b May 5, 1828 d. April 7, 1910 and they had 6 children I believe. Their oldest son Wilson Alexander Jefferson Scheirer b. July 19, 1853 d. Nov 28, 1937 is my g-g grandfather. Wilson married Amanda Elizabeth Rennig m. Dec 26, 1877 in Egypt Church. She was b. Mar 24, 1869 and d. Nov 30, 1939.

Their son Samuel Jonas b Oct 5, 1886 d. Jan 11, 1956 married Lucy Priscella Dunbar on Mar 12, 1915 in Whitehall. She was b. May 28, 1891 and D. Feb. 9, 1953 and they are buried along with dozens of Scheirers in St. John's UCC, Mickley's, Whitehall, Lehigh Co., PA.

If anyone is looking for Scheirer headstones, this cemetery is full of them.

If anyone has additional info on Jonas Scheirer b. Feb 10, 1797 and who he married, including info with sources on his children, I would be very grateful.
According to my census records and the records at the local church and the History of Lehigh County and the cemetery records...Jonas Scheirer/Scheurer was a brother of David Scheurer/Scheirer b. March 5, 1799 and I do have that birthdate July 31, 1793 for Jonas. Adam Scheurer and Catharine Elizabeth Herzog were their parents and Catharine was his 2nd wife. Adam was born in 1727 and died in 1805. Catharine was born in May 18,1758 and died in January 1841. Adam had at least 14 children. David was the last. Adam also had a son named Adam. From what I have gathered they just kept naming cousins in the family the same names so there could be another Jonas in the same family that was a child of an older Scheurer brother. Other children were Susanna, Adam, Peter, John/Johannes, Nicholas, Johann/Jacob, Daniel, Maria Magdalena, Johann George, Joseph, Catharine, Solomon.
Supposedly one Scheurer married an Indian girl somewhere in Lehigh County. I do not have access to the records back there as David Scheurer/Scheirer sons (some of them) came out west on an "excursion train" just before the Civil War and settled in Indiana with other Lehigh County immigrants...I never found the other brothers out west..they split up. Hope this helps!

Dear Judy -
I know this post is 6 years from the time of this posting but I hope you happen to visit this site again. I'm related to Wilson Alexander (Jefferson?) Scheirer b. July 19, 1853 to Nov 28, 1937. His son Samuel Jonas is my g-grandfather. Those relatives swear that Jonas' grandfather was Jonas Scheirer Feb 10, 1797 to Mar 19, 1890 and that he was married to "an Indian princess" named Peewachten. I find this very hard to believe. I don't know who this Jonas (b1797)his parents were, do you?

Your posting is the first time I've seen Adam Scheurer's (b1754) parents; Johannes Adam Scheurer and Maria Magdalena Christ. And I want to thank you for your hard work.

Can you also clear up the confusion of where Jonas Scheurer b July 31, 1793 fits in? One source believes he is the son of Adam Scheurer and Catharina Elizabetha Hertzog. Maybe HE is the Jonas my family is related to instead of Jonas b. 1797. I would really like to get this straightened out.

Does anyone know about these people?

I think my aunt, Betty Texter, once gave you her scrapbooks on Central Park many years ago. Do you still have them? She kept tons of scrapbooks on all kinds of different happenings in Rittersville and in the family. The database "Lehigh County, Pennsylvania: Hilffrich Pastoral Records" on Ancestry.com may also contain some records in the areas you are researching.

Some records of Egypt Church can found here: http://usgwarchives.net/pa/lehigh/church.htm.

Some records of Neffs (Schlosser's) Church may be found here: http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~palehigh/Schlosserschurch.....

A cemetery listing for the Neffs Union Cemetery can be found here: http://www.unionucc.org/about/index.php?screen=30.

By the way, you wouldn't happen to be Neil Rutman, would you? I think we are distant cousins.

Have you ever seen Walter Rutman's original immigration record? His declaration of intent and petition are on file at the Lehigh County courthouse, but I haven't had a chance to get there and review them to see if there's anything in them about his place of birth. I would love to have proof of his birthplace in order to go back further in our line.

I am looking for the burial and/or obit of Briget Duffy Greer who died between 1875 and 1880. Looking at the 1880 census under Patrick Duffy, I see two grandsons- James & Thomas. Henry Greer & Bridget Duffy Greer are their parents. I am surmising tht Bridget dies prior to 1880, and Henry moves to Phoenixville, Pa and remarries Jane no surname.

I've dropped a note to the Lehigh Historical Society, where they say they have a listing, but not certain what their policy is. Confirmation that she is in Immaculate Conception will prompt me to add a findagrave entry looking for the tombstone image.

thanks for the help.
danoh19344@hotmail.com (Chester County, Pa)

Thanks so much for the help Carolyn. I very much appreciate it. I hope its the Mary Smith I'm looking for. That is my great grandmother. I looked for her for years and years, as did my grandmother. She never knew what happened to her as her mother "left" when she was 4. My grams died in 2001. This April, I found out what happened to her. She was admitted into Allentown State Hospital as she was deemed insane. Now I'm trying to find where she was buried. She was an immigrant. But now we know why her father never told her what happened to her. He told her that her mother died of the swine flu. That may be partially correct as they vaccinated her right after the new year and she immediately developed bloody diarrhea and then died within a week. So anyhow, I'm hoping. But thanks again so much as I very much appreciate it.

Wow. I'm very interested in how to get a copy of that Mary Smith obit from Jan 15. 1919. Where did you see it? How do I get it? As for the records, I will write to the LCHS for them tomorrow. Thanks so very much.

I doubt this is of much help, but I saw that an obit was published for a Mary Smith in the Allentown Morning Call on 01.15.1919 on page 9 according to the partial online index. Wonder if this is your Mary Smith. Perhaps you have it already.

Does anyone know if there are records available for Sacred Heart Cemetery? My great grandmother died in Allentown State Hospital in January of 1919 and it is listed on her death certificate that she was buried in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. When I called there they said they didn't show her, but some graves had question marks on them. I've tried to get more info to see who owned the unmarked graves etc and have been unable to get an answer. Since she was insane when she died, I believe she was put into an unmarked grave on purpose. Please help me find her. Her name is Mary Smith. Her real name was Mary Zygmunt Zavada but her husband changed his name to Smith after immigrating. Mary was Polish, but was born in Slovakia. She was born sometime between 1867 and 1877. It states 1867 on her death certificate, but according to all her childrens birth records, it was 1877. Thank you.
