Aubrey Phillips Jr., 88, retired owner of
Texas Wholesale Candy & Tobacco, died peacefully Friday morning, April 2, 2004, at his residence.
Funeral: 1 p.m. Wednesday in the sanctuary of The First United Methodist Church of
Fort Worth. Burial: Following committal services with military honors,
Aubrey will be laid to rest next to his wife, Wanda, in Shannon Rose Hill Memorial Park. Past Potentates of Moslah Shrine will serve as honorary bearers of his casket. Visitation: He will lie in state Tuesday at
Robertson Mueller Harper, where his family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m.
Memorials: Those desiring, please make memorial contributions in Mr. Phillips' name to the
Shriner Hospital for Children or to a charity of choice.
A native of Dallas and longtime resident of
Fort Worth, Russell
Aubrey Phillips Jr. was born Oct. 11, 1915, the son of Russell A. and Kate Carruthers
Phillips. He was married to the former Wanda Bell Lovin, who died in 1978.
Aubrey was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Northern
Solomons and Southern Philippines. He received the Asiatic Pacific Campaign
Medal with two Bronze Stars and one Bronze Arrowhead. He also received the Philippine Liberation Ribbon, American Campaign
Medal, the World War II Victory
Medal and the Combat Infantry
Badge.
Phillips was a 50-year Mason and a member of Polytechnic
Lodge #925, AF&AM, Polytechnic Chapter and
Council,
Worth Commandery and the
Fort Worth Scottish Rite. He was a 50-year member of Moslah Shrine, where he was a past president of the band unit. Aubrey served a Potentate of Moslah Shrine in 1974 and was a member of the ROJ, Court #32.
Following the death of his wife, Wanda,

Welch. In addition to his parents and first wife,
Aubrey was preceded in death by his grandson,
ALL. Phillips Jr.

Una Welch Phillips of
Fort Worth; sons,
ALL. Phillips and David R. Phillips, also of
Fort Worth; stepdaughter, Suzanne
Welch Dewald and her husband, Fred, of Waco; stepson, John
Welch and his wife, Veta, of Atlanta, Ga.; grandchildren, Heather
Phillips, Brad
Weaver, Lya
Weaver, John
Welch Jr. and his wife, Julie, and Tracey Welch; two great-grandchildren; sisters, Josephine
Phillips Saunders and her husband, John, Ruth Ann
Phillips Stephan and her husband,
Verne, and Helen
Phillips Jones; and several nieces and nephews.
