Thanks. Unfortunately, this web site does not tell me how I can get birth data for years prior to 1936. It only states instructions on how to get certificates for births within the last 75 years.

My Grandfather was born in 1923 in Tarrant County. According to the Texas Vital Records, birth records within the last 75 years require all sorts of rules to get copies. But, nothing was mentioned about records prior to 1934 (or more than 75 years ago.

How can I get a copy of a record? I do not live in Texas, I live in Maryland.

Can anyone provide some feedback?

Mary,
The Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness has been in operation for 10 years. When you read the guidelines and FAQ's, you will see how they operate. If you follow the guidelines and a researcher does not get back to you for fails to provide information (they are allowed to only do one research a month, see other FAQ's), write an email to the organization about it. You may have to request the same service from another volunteer. BUT, under their guidelines, there are certain tasks they are not allowed to perform, or information they can not provide. Your obit request should not be a problem. But, they can't get a birth certificate for any of the children involved if they are possibly alive.

Yes, there are others that volunteer. There are many historical societies or groups that do the work on a FEE BASIS, (sometimes EXCESSIVE FEE's). We can NOT post the links to FEE BASED organizations on Rootsweb, or GenForum (the sister "station" owned by Ancestry.com) due to policy set by Ancestry.com. These boards are meant for contacts between family members or volunteers to help in genealogy research. When someone posts FEE BASED links, the administrator is supposed to delete the postings.

You appear to know how to find local libraries. If you do not mind paying for the research. When you use google, or another search engine (I find http://www.alltheweb.com/advanced?cs=utf-8 to be better than google in finding what I need) use the advanced setting, in Exact Phrase, type in the county "Tarrant County, Texas". In Word Filters, or Additional Words, type in "genealogy". This usually results in finding local genealogy groups, societies, libraries, and PAY FOR SERVICE organizations.

IF YOU PAY (it's your money) and it's for a simple obituary, you get what you pay for. If you pay for research, be very careful about accepting it. I have done research for people that had paid for research, only to find the research was bogus. Not that it was in error, but made-up. The ancestors identified (grand-parents, etc. DID NOT EXIST).

Ron Bestrom
Tacoma, WA

Thank you. I have contacted other researchers in the past in various states/counties that have given their names and email addresses to the local libraries and have run into them not replying after the first email. They say they will do something but never update you. It's so flustrating. Maybe this group will be different. Thanks for the contact information. I'm willing to pay a reasonable fee for research, copying and travel expenses & I still run into this problem in some states.

Hi Ed, I am related through the Keif family. Betty's mother Kate Kief Altman was the daughter of Wolrad Kief who was my great great grandfather. I am researching the Kief family and all lines that come through it. The Reeder line is one of those. You can email me directly if you wish at histree60@hotmail.com. I would love your input.

Thanks! tammy

Jonathan joined the Tarrant county Hussars while his family was still near Fort Worth. During the Civil War his wife, Margaret Buck Marchbanks, moved the family to Johnson County. Jonathan died there in about 1869 and was buried in the Marchbanks cemetery in Burelson. The cemetery markers were knocked down decades ago and the cemetery is supposedly lost now. I am interested in his time with the Hussars. Burton was Jonathan's brother. Thanks for the information.
I find no data on a "Jonathan" Marchbanks in Tarrant county or Texas.

I find a death certificate of John Burt Marchbanks born in Tennessee 14 Nov 1880 died in Fort Worth 20 May 1955 son of Columbus Marchbanks of TN and Valenda Hart of TN. He was an Engineer fon L&N, retired, buried in Greenwood Cemetery, lived at 1800 Frederick Street was in Fort Worth 2 years before he died.

Columbus was born in TN about 1842 son of Burton Marchbanks born TN about 1801 and wife Juliann born TN abt 1822. Need for you to provide lineage back to Jonathan to get better answers. I spoke with your dad a couple years ago about the Phelan family and he was quite helpful. He suggested that I contact one of his sons, David??? I sent David a letter but did not get a response. I would love to fill in the blanks I am missing on the sons of Betty Reeder. Do you have anything on this? I did get my dil a used PC, at a great price a few years ago, just to do her genealogy and my darling gch pics. Just look at your trips as a vacation trip you would take to France or somewhere.
A contribution of one dollar from every person you have assisted, during the year, would cover the subscription cost. Not too many years ago, I actually considered purchasing a desktop for a very helpful member of the Cass County, TX Historical Society. I reside in Dover, DE and must travel to either Philadelphia, PA or Baltimore, MD to catch a flight. Eventhough I purchase tickets at a deep discount, each trip to Texas cost approximately $600.00+. I usually return home at least 4 times yearly, so I have very little money saved. Still, I thoroughly enjoy genealogy!

That was a great find HL. You are like me, I double check everything, before it is entered in my files. I have to get my subscribtion back for Ancestry.com as soon as I possible can. It is very hard trying to find records without it. Been trying to cut back on everything I can. The library has the library addition, but it is sure not the same as having it at home. My oldest son ask me what I wanted for Christmas, I told him a subribtion to Ancestry. com would be wonderful. He said he was thinking of making me a candle. (smile) Oh well, I will find a way. Bryghtstar

Alrighty, then!!! In addition to the death certificate found by Bryghstar, view Tommy Ray Randle (23 Feb 1949 - 2 Apr 1949). Equilla was a "Randle" via marriage? Find her in 1930 TX-Leon-Precinct 1-District 1-Page 14. She was born about 1923. View "Dennis Family Tree" owned by melvindennis1 at http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/1406482/person/-922972047 The author has done much research and is probably a member of the family. His birthdate for Equilla's father does not agree with census data and the WWI Draft Registration. Johnie Hughes registered for the draft in Leon County with a birthdate of 12 May 1900 in Centerville. That agrees with the 1930 census. Be that as it may, click on melvindennis1's username and send him an email.

Franklin Pierce Rowland and family

Franklin Pierce Rowland moved to Tarrant County, TX from Smith Co., TN in 1879. His wife appears to have been Eliza J. Nolen, but I have no marriage record from TN to confirm she was a Nolen nor the date. They do appear in the 1880 Tarrant Co., TX census and never again. Both supposedly died before 1900 in Tarrant Co., TX, and I need a cemetery look up for the full birth and death dates, or any death record. They also had a son named Arthur born in Tarrant Co. in 1879, and a daughter named Rebecca born in 1876 in Smith County, TN. Son Richard b. 1875 in Smith Co., TN went to CA.

I am researching the Rowland line, not the Nolen line. Any help appreciated.

David Johnson
smltnt@yahoo.com

Hello, and thank you for looking at my request. First of all, thank you for your work for us!

I need the obituary for family: William Jefferson Mitchell
Born: 17 Dec. 1879 in Alvarado, Johnson, Texas; Died: 25 Oct. 1967.
I have his death certificate. He was buried in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery with his wife, Fannie May Crane Mitchell. I have their grave marker pictures. On the death certificate, it lists Shannon Rife Snow Furneral Home of Ft. Worth, Texas. George W. Shannon Furneral Director #5336 at that time in 1967.
I looked on ancestors.com at the Texas Newspapers but there was no paper from the Tarrant Co listed there.
I would be very thankful for William Jefferson Mitchell's obit as he and my grandfather were very close.I do not know how how many newspapers there were in 1967-probably 2 is my guess.
E
My family is Adams. My grandmother Imogene Kemper Adams was Nancy Lena Lowery's daughter. That would make John Lowery my Great Great Grandfather. I would love to view your family tree to verify some of our information, if possible. Also, would love to assist with any family research regarding mental illness. I work at St Edwards in Austin TX. jeanb@stedwards.edu. I have some photos from Lowery family reunions if you are interested.
